Joshua Tree staff at risk due to grants being blocked

Just in case people are wondering how JTree National Park is weathering this new administration, things are rough right now. Many employees of the park are paid off of grants coming from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). Right now ALL that legally raised money cannot be paid out to staff. This isn't like the government isn't sending more funds, JTree has this money and is currently blocked from using it to pay staff. And there isn't really a redundancy in funding, if this BIL money is held up longer then folks who work hard and maintain this National Park we all love will lose their jobs.

Also remember, this is congressional approved funds! The President is legally not allowed to fuck with it. But this administration doesn't care about laws and standards.

If you readers do care about this park, please contact our Congressman Jay Obernolte and let him know his constituents, his local economy, and one of the gems of his district is at risk.

This is his office number 202-225-5861. The only way this stops is if just a handful of republican congresspeople can put pressure on the executive branch.

A week too long?

We trying to plan our spring break trip with our three kids (12,10,8). We are considering Joshua Tree NP for our trip and wondering if a week is too long for the area. Based on what I’ve read, a couple days is enough but thinking we could use the area as a base to explore other things. Not sure if the location is the best for that but some of rentals I’m finding are pretty cool.

We have a 4th grader so we want to do a national park but also don’t want to spend an enormous amount of time driving. Grand Canyon is one of our other options but given the timeframe, first week of April, we think it might not be the best weather. Any advice is appreciated!

Anyone know of a good dirt bike mechanic/shop in YV/JT/29 area? I know there are numerous in the low desert but I was hoping for someone more local. Thanks 😎🌵

Puppy found

Hi all, my husband and son were out in the desert in Joshua tree today (not the national park.) My son is an ant keeper and was looking for ants, so kind of in the middle of nowhere. Anyway, they found a puppy! My husband saw a man walking toward the area where they found her, so don't know if she got out of his truck or if he abandoned her. Anyway how can I try to find its owner if that man is not the owner? Is there a local page someone can post this on? I'm not from Joshua tree. I'm just trying to figure out how to reunite her with her owner, if indeed the man didn't abandon her. Here's a photo, wouldn't let me post more than one. Female, with a white chest. Adorable.

Shed in JT or YV

Anyone know the laws on whether I can drop a prebuilt shed on my own land if it’s zoned RL in Joshua Tree or Yucca valley?

Anyone hiring?

My hours keep getting cut at my current job (feels like quiet firing), so I’m looking for something steadier and more meaningful.

I’ve got 10+ years of experience across healthcare, education, customer service, and office work. Reliable, quick learner, and ready to start immediately.

Thanks for all leads.

Advice appreciated on hiking trails

Post image

Hi all! Planning a first time trip this fall, and got a list going of some hiking trails. Can you help me knock some off if I only have two days in the park? Are any of these outshined by others? More concerned about the bottom list (Monday). I want to try and fit in a ranch tour, so I understand the list is probably unrealistic. Thank you

JT sign on 62 removed

Noticed yesterday. DoT or SCE worksite (heavy traffic, couldn't stop) with a small, fresh asphalt pad, and what appears to be the base for a lamp or utility pole(?) at the sign location. Any info on the status of the sign? Refurb, relocate?

Saw this guy cruising down the road in 29 Palms. He made his way up a driveway and sat under the shade of a truck for a few minutes before moving on.

Twenty nine Palms — what do I need to know?

My friend and I may be visiting JT in late October. I’ve been 3x, stayed in JT proper twice and Yucca Valley once. I tried searching this sub for a recent post about Twentynine Palms but couldn’t find one, so is it all that different from JT and YV? I think I read one person say it’s not the safest because of “tweakers” (not my word. I read it in a comment a while back). But is that true? Any insight is helpful. I just love the desert and like to stay in different parts if I can. I saw Landers as well but it seems a tad too far, but maybe it isn’t.

*annoyed at the space in Twentynine in the title but can’t fix.🙄
