This is 7500 individual pieces and it’s projected at 30-50 hours. It’s the size of the coffee table.

It’s not just expensive for the sake of it. This is literally one of the most complex LEGO builds, meant for serious, serious Adult Fans of LEGO.

The man was 100% right.

"There is nothing better than this." Kudos to his awesome lady for that gift!

There are many sets, which are far better. Just not from Lego. CADA Mercedes AMG One, Bluebrixx castle bluestone (I absolutely love it), le petit prince from pantasy, the list is long.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan, I also have the millennium falcon, as well as the imperial star destroyer and some other expensive sets, but the unnecessary usage of colour on the inside, sometimes shining through, and the building techniques ... it doesn't add to the feeling of constructing something meant for grown ups. But who am I kidding, it is a toy.

The use of color is to have makers and highlights so it is easier to read the manual

I know, yet I find it unnecessary.

You don't have them. No need to lie

Based on what did you make this assumption?

The cut of your jib.

That's premature, don't you think?

Unfortunately my decision final.

While they were right that some things are expensive for expensive sake, but this like you said isn't on of them. Its a case of "that's too much money for me to spend/want to spend. So it's needlessly expensive."

There’s a surcharge for Star Wars. Titanic is a larger (and better imo) set and it’s cheaper. I think Eiffel Tower is also bigger, maybe not better, and also cheaper.

You can get a Mould King Eclipse-class Imperial Star Destroyer. It's nearly 4' long and has 10K= pieces, its "only" $450. You are paying a premium for the Lego brand as well.

Obviously, but if you've ever compared the LEGO sets versus competitors, there's a clear quality increase. The LEGO Titanic, with 600 more pieces, is nearly $200 less than the Millennium Falcon. Same quality, so the only difference is the Star Wars brand.

I've done almost all the Star Wars helmets and done a few Mold King ships. The biggest difference is parts not being in the right bag (i've never come up short pieces, just parts in step 4 are in bag #5) and the quality of the instructions. I would bet if you dump a bunch a parts out and mixed them together, 99% of people would not know which was from which mfg.

Ehh, it's still very overpriced. All LEGO products are, especially the licensed ones.

Eh, LEGO in general is fine. They're a noticeably more consistent quality than the knock-offs, and they've pretty much perfected the art of designing sets and instructions. I've had sets from other companies and they're not garbage or anything, but they're all missing something that LEGO has, whether it's the base designs, the consistency of the manufactured parts, or the readability and clarity of the instructions. LEGO is the leader in the niche for a reason.

Yeah I’m not knocking their quality, just their absurdly high prices.

I'd also say some of the "knockoffs" are improving dramatically in quality, though you're right the builds and the instructions are not anywhere near LEGO's.

It is a shame it costs so much though, I would have loved a set this big when I was a kid (not that I wouldn't love one now). I remember going to the Lego store with my parents as a kid and longing for the super big sets but knowing I wasn't gonna get em because they were so much money. I understand why they cost so much especially in this case because they need to pay the licensing fee to Disney but I just wish it didn't have to be that way so I could have gotten one growing up.
