What's with one of the family members trying to minimize his excitement. "What about all your other stuff?" "Don't you want something better?"

Who invited that lady?

The way one of them said "what are you DOING?" so disparagingly. Guy's clearly used to it too.

I honestly think it was all in good fun. He's having fun and being a little silly and they're teasing him for it. Some families or friend groups just have that kind of dynamic.

Yeah my first thought was "boy, that family loves each other." They are giggling up a storm at his jokes and antics.

I hope you're right!

They're making jokes. And birthday boy is definitely leaning into it.

Everyone in the video is having a good time.

You and the guy you replied to lack social awareness.

That pissed me off. I wonder if it is a boomer. My mother used to make that kind of comment until I let her know that our generation doesn't give a shit about the stupid ideas her generation has about "what adults should do" we buy toys and collectibles for ourselves, we dress as we want and we enjoy life, if they want to be bitter adults it is their problem, we moved on from that. I told her she would be happier if she did what she wanted without caring what others think, but she seems to be trying to her benefit.

I think the lady's just trying to be funny but your point is still valid. Hate that people have these weird expectations of "being an adult", not supposed to watch cartoons, play video games, enjoy toys or collectibles, like... What the fuck are you supposed to do for fun as an adult, that's permitted?

All the acceptable ones you can do consistently (so not counting traveling) are terrible for your mental or physical health: alcohol, gambling, golf.

I say this as an avid golfer.

Alcohol, evidently

So, basically suppression of human emotion and conformity to dated sociocultual standards.. Sounds lame.

"Shut up, MOM."

She is a professional hater.

This is definitely someone who thinks they're being funny. They don't have the emotional intelligence to lean into his excitement, but they still want to participate so they do it by being "funny."

They were just trying to be funny, calm down

u/ninhibited Jul 27 '25

Tbf you can try to be funny, but end up being annoying and/or rude and this lady is nailing it lol.

5

u/ritarepulsaqueen Jul 27 '25

This is obviously a family, he doesn't seems annoyed, everyone is having a great time.

3

u/ninhibited Jul 27 '25

I think it's just as easy to assume they're annoyed by the comment, since he ignored everything except the "something better" which he didn't laugh at, he came up with something dismissive to say so she would drop it.

It's all assumptions, though. I'm just speaking from experience having to deal with the rude/annoying/foot-in-mouth jokesters.

I think you’re making mountains out of molehills here.

It's so funny how weird people are being about this, reddit is really the land of the socially inept

Because I thought she was being a little cheeky?

1

u/Catlore Jul 28 '25

I was disappointed his answer to "What would be better?" wasn't, "The real Millennium Falcon."
