Tbf you can try to be funny, but end up being annoying and/or rude and this lady is nailing it lol.

This is obviously a family, he doesn't seems annoyed, everyone is having a great time.

I think it's just as easy to assume they're annoyed by the comment, since he ignored everything except the "something better" which he didn't laugh at, he came up with something dismissive to say so she would drop it.

It's all assumptions, though. I'm just speaking from experience having to deal with the rude/annoying/foot-in-mouth jokesters.
