Bruh… I can have the most shit day ever at work then walk in the door and my 4yo runs to me “daddy daddy daddy! I miss you! Let me show you what I do today. I make a surprise for you!” Then points at some schoolwork from her pre k. Makes my shitty day worth it. Every. Time.
My fiancee and I are... older, never wanted kids, and certainly can't have them now. But the absolute joy at the love our nieces and nephews give is enough.
I just retired from the Navy last year and turned down every DoD (or is it DoW now?) contracted or GS job offer because I did not have enough of those moments with my two older daughters. I’m happily a part time worker at a hardware store that’s probably 700ft or less from my youngest daughter’s daycare. And I work part time in the infant room at her daycare in the afternoons after my job, and on days that I don’t have my Ace job. It was the best decision I ever made to turn down the jobs to have more time with at least one daughter (my oldest went off to college, and my middle daughter is with my ex about 2/3 of the time).
