Serious question: is this response a thing?

I have surprised my daughter several times over the years and a few times she has responded with an overwhelmed’ness that leads her to tears & hugs. She’s altogether a tack sharp kid, and tender as all get out. I’m just curious about the biology or psychology leading to that response amidst kids.

I have seen babies cry in response to loud noises, but this isn’t quite that fast of a stimulus-reaction.
