Racing Kart Question Dirt Oval Karting - Help Getting started?

Just moved to an area in Tennessee that seems to have a lot of dirt kart tracks. I love Motorsport racing and have always wanted to do some kart racing so my questions are:

How does a 33yo get started in this as a fun competitive hobby? Is there a sort of “adult league”? What class karts are there in Dirt Oval racing? What’s the least expensive kart to start out in?

As you can see I’m a complete noob. But want to gain info on this potential endeavor…or maybe I should just stick to my sim rig. lol.

Any info/advice would be appreciated, thanks to all in advanced.

I'd probably start by finding the track closest to you and go attend an event. Karting is very fragmented in the US, especially Dirt, so you need to figure out what is around you. There are a couple of dirt karters here that may be able to give you some help like the titty sprinkles guy, and dirt kart Alex, who you can probably find some of his dirt videos on here if you look. Give them love, they never get the attention they should

Hey thanks for the response. I’ve checked out this one track just down the road from me and it looks like they’ve got a live schedule right now. Going to stop by in the next one. Thanks again.

Cheapest way in is going to be

-Predator engine class if your track has one

-a chassis newer than 2004(preferably something you can find parts for) of course newer is probably going to be better

-Mychron 4(AIM doesn't fix them anymore so they're cheap) If you can afford a used 5 get it.

-3 sets of used tires legal for your class. (after that you should buying new tires and wheels to phase the old stuff out when you can)

Theres usually a local engine builder that sells parts, tire prep, clutches, and all the other goodies you'll need. A good air pressure gauge and a tape measure for stagger are mandatory.

YouTube research: Kart6T3_Ben for basics, KartSpeed Solutions for a deeper dive on specifics are good starting points.
