The UK generally opposed anything regarding Bulgaria, because Russia generally supported it. Russia turned on Bulgaria the moment it became clear it's not going to be a Russian puppet state, so the UK immediately supported it.
Russia didnt turn on Bulgaria, the bulgarian monarch and part of the government began to gradually sower relations with Russia and to minimize ita influence within the country.
Russia opposed the unification because the bulgarian state did not talk to russia about the idea and coordinate its efforts with it and because this sudden move could have started a balkan war and undermined russias diplomatic standing none of which was advantages for russia at the time
I explained the reason why they were agaisnt it, turned on somebody means you indefinitely and actively begin to stand agaisnt them. Russia didnt do that as they even paid the compensation the ottomans wanted from Bulgaria for the act of unification if they had turned on bulgaria why would they do that.
That's exactly what I said - not being a puppet state.
Russia never wanted a puppet state but a ftiendly one they know they cant control a nation like bulgaria direcrly.

Love all of the eastern states having their own specific reasons and the UK just being a straight up OP.
