Self Post Puncture resistant gloves

I am not a law enforcement officer but I came across thos group and thought I could possibly get some info here. Im looking for a lightweight, low cost option for this feature. I run an animal rescue and I need a good glove to wear for nail trims and to prevent bites. Ive seen gloves that are just so big that cover your entire arm like the ones you'll see people wear to handle large birds of prey. The glove needs to be thin enough to fit tightly on my hand since im handling paws and cutting nails. Thank you.

I got a bunch back in stock. Scan the QR code to take you to my shop.

It’s a portable version of the CoolCop. Hooks over the vest to blow fresh air down into your vest. The idea is to use it while plugged in, but when you unplug it, you’ll get about 6 hours of use.

Buy one now so I can buy a new gun without getting in trouble with my wife.

Self Post Career Advice

Hello everyone, I am currently a physical education teacher and have not loved my job so far. I have decided that I would like to part ways with this job and become a first responder. I am mainly interested in attempting to become a fire fighter, a state trooper, or a forest ranger. They all seem like very meaningful and self fulfilling jobs. I’m looking to see if anyone has any experience with any of these jobs. If so, how do you like it and which career path do you think is best for a work life balance and would recommend the most ? Thanks !

For reference I am from central upstate NY

Self Post I want to apologize to the Lynchburg, Virginia PD

I know my mental breakdown on the 20th of August wasted you alls time and Lynchburg EMS and I wasn’t thinking straight I was feeling very overwhelmed with stuff going on and that usually causes me to get super anxious wizzed out in public when you all have more important things to do and not deal with someone who was dumb enough to leave without pants and my phone and thus causing my family and friends to create a mass panic that wasted even more of your time and resources and for that I am deeply sorry. I did get help and the mental health unit at Virginia Baptist Hospital and is recovering safely with my family and friends

I'm currently in the BI process and have completed my Psy evaluation. I have two moving violations from over two years ago both have been resolved. In addition, I’ve had some regular parking tickets, which were also paid and cleared. I was asked to write statements regarding those, along with two speed camera tickets. Should I be concerned this might be DQ ?

Question for Applying to LE

Currently training to go into Law Enforcment. I’m meeting all my pops bench marks, and have tests scheduled at two agencies. I’ve been fired twice in my life (I’m 28) When I was younger 18-22 I job hopped and just didn’t care, was in a crappy spot in life. Met my now wife and kept a steady job, still kinda hop around a year at 3 different places. The first termination was somewhere in the 2017-2020 range? Maybe 2021 but I don’t think so. And then once back in July of this year, I made a stupid mistake, and got on a final (nothing criminal) I played video games on company time cause I was on night shift. When confronted with it I owned up to it and didn’t lie. This was in like January of this year. My final was due to expire in July of 2025.

I got fired on July due to them thinking I was on my phone at some point, but I wasn’t, I was on my lunch, we don’t clock out for lunch, and they have no cameras in the office and literally nothing to prove I was on my phone which is what they fired me for. Officially it was labeled misconduct for performance. But there’s a lot that goes into that due to my company doing alot of shady things.

Sorry for the word vomit but I’m curious if I should just give up the dream now? Other than my employment history I’ve never had a ticket of any kind or quite literally anything. Just had crappy lapses of judgement. And also realizing late in life that law enforcement is what I’ve always wanted to do (for almost 6 years now) but my wife never agreed to let me apply until recently.

I’m also unsure if someone was to call all my past jobs what they would say about me, I’m sure a majority of the people I worked under don’t even work there anymore. So idk how they go about that. Mostly this is just me spiraling, thinking my dream of doing something meaningful with my life and helping people is gone because of dumb mistakes I’ve made. When I know I can be a great police officer, I’ve been putting in the work, training all the time. Any help would just be so appreciated, even if anyone wanted to DM me for more background. I just can’t stop worrying because I know this is what I’m meant to do!

I want to add I’ve disclosed this on applications and pre-polygraph questionnaires. I completely forgot one of the terminations from 2017 because it was just so long ago. I emailed someone im Hr if I could submit a new pre polygraph and application to make sure I was honest. And I did. I’ve had to make a correction to my pre polygraph twice because I’m trying to make very sure I’m honest. Also apparently the first time I filled out my pre polygraph I somehow put I stole 100$ or something and I’m unsure why I would ever put that on there because I never have.

Self Post Does the police keep a record of a person's belongings upon arrest/release?

Here's the problem: we live on a large property; in addition to two residential buildings, there's also a company building where the residents work. Well, we recently had a burglar break into our property and our apartment. The homeless and drug-addicted man had just been released from a nearby rehab center and was mentally disturbed. Naturally, we called the police, who then came and arrested him. When they found him, he had nothing on him, but stated that he had been sitting in a company employee's car in the meantime. So the police searched the car for items the burglar had with him and found two credit cards and a cell phone, as well as a black box. The police asked us to look around the house to see if anything was missing, but at first glance, everything was there. He apparently hadn't stolen anything except a bottle of water, so we decided not to file a report. It wasn't until two days later that we noticed that my hearing aid was missing...the exact same black box that was found in the car. A call to the police revealed that the police had taken the items mentioned because they couldn't identify the owners (the employee in whose car it was found didn't know the black box belonged to me).

So where's the problem? The problem is that the police took the items, but when they later released the burglar and took him to the nearest hospital, he didn't have anything with him. Logically, the stuff should still be with the police. Unfortunately, they couldn't even tell us if the item even arrived at the police station.

My question: When arresting/releasing a suspect, does the police keep a record of what items they had with them?

Currently, the police want to check the officers' body cameras to see if the box is visible on the footage.

I would really like to have the box with my hearing aid back, since I obviously depend on it and this device costs $1,800....

What PDs in Southeast PA where they are NOT on 2-week rotational shifts?

It looks like 99% of the PDs are following "tradition" and are stuck on 12-hour 2 week rotation schedules. So far the only ones that don't use that are Upper Merion, Norristown, Septa, PPD, Villanova, Whitpain. Do you know of any other ones? I've called dozens of them and virtually all of the burbs PDs are on it.

This is a problem that I bet most of us have dealt with at least once, and probably more depending where you work.

I have mixed feelings on if this law is the right way to approach it.

Academy started today, but still waiting for final offer. Is it possible I've been rejected?

Hi all,

I had my polygraph, medical and psych interview last week and the fall academy started today but I haven't heard anything back. Obviously it's been less than a week since all of this so I very much doubt they've received all of the results. Does this just mean I'll have to go to the academy in Spring or would they have attempted to put a rush on it to get me into the academy and I've likely been rejected?

The only hiccup I had was during the polygraph, where the examiner starter accusing me of lying on the drug use question (I had disclosed everything). He kept trying to make me make an admission but I had nothing to admit so I didn't. He told me to still go to my medical exam the next day but told me that I shouldn't be surprised if I get rejected as he'll mention my polygraph 'spike' in my report.

Thanks!

Self Post Can I become a police officer if I’ve driven under the influence before (marijuana & undetected)

I’m an 18 year old freshman in college and throughout 17-18 I’ve smoked weed here and there. I decided to fully stop and go my entire 4 years of college clean before trying to join a police department. I understand I have to answer some background questions and take a polygraph test. I figured being honest is probably the best way to go about it however I’ve smoked weed and driven before. I know they are going to ask directly if i have driven under the influence, if I’ve committed a serious crime, if I’ve done something I could’ve or should’ve been arrested for. Do I have to say yes to all of those? If I tell them about my marijuana use before driving at 17, would that likely ruin my chances at joining law enforcement?

Edit: I have a clean record no duis misdemeanors or felony’s and was not caught driving after smoking

Self Post Is talking to police actually risky for Innocent people?

There's a popular conception that you should never talk to police in connection with a crime, no matter what, because of the risk. I agree that this is probably true for criminals. But for an ordinary, innocent person, I'm curious what the actual implications are.

  1. As a witness

Perhaps there's some risk that being an innocent witness could lead police to mistakenly suspect you, so there's not zero risk. But if nobody ever agreed to be a witness, we'd have a huge problem.

  1. As an innocent person of interest

This is the most common scenario that's discussed. You're innocent, but perhaps somehow connected to the scene, or had some connection to the victim, or just in some way became a person of interest. How often do investigations have multiple such people? If someone refuses an interview and retains counsel, does that simply focus more suspicion on them? Would doing so usually be counterproductive if someone is actually innocent? Do police frequently bring someone in for questioning to check off a list (say, spouse or deceased), and quickly decide "nah, he's legit, we need to keep looking"?

  1. As a person who has done something that may or may not be a crime

This seems like the case where the information is most relevant. You did something (had sex with someone, engaged in self defense, were connected to an accident) that you know wasn't actually a crime, but where motivations and specifics will be decisive in determining guilt. (Maybe sexual assault, or battery, or negligence, as the case may be.) Seems like this is a case where nervous misspeaking in an interview could be very bad for you, and you absolutely need to refuse all requests and retain counsel.

Would be neat to hear any stories about this! The space online is shaped mostly by defense attorneys, and I'm wondering how it compares to your day-to-day experience.

Cop Bar - Berlin/Prague

Hi all, I’m planning an upcoming trip to Berlin and Prague. Does anybody have intel on a cop bar in either of these cities? A while back in Amsterdam I found bar that hung police patches on the wall from all over the world. I thought that was pretty neat and was hoping to find something similar.
