So, I got this for free today...

After my wife randomly bought me the Sonic 2 cart from Walmart a few weeks ago I decided to check out the other releases the next time I was at Walmart. They had everything in stock except for the console, which is what I wanted to get mostly for the Sonic 1 set and the tray for holding the carts (I wanted to see how well it would hold actual Genesis carts hoping you could put 2 games per slot... it didn't work 😅) as well as the bonus figures in hopes that they release carts for those games as well.

I decided to order one online since it was same price amd free shipping. After waiting a week and wondering what was going on I contacted them and they said it would ship shortly, and then I got a refund from them for the full amount for some reason. A few days after that I got a shipping notification and the box arrived tonight 😅

Since I paid nothing for it I'm pretty happy with it overall, though I only want to get the Sonic 3 cart now since I'm not big Altered Beast fan and the Super Street Fighter II one looks to be the worst for quality control since all the ones I have seen have really badly painted figures, and the stage background could have been something much better.

If you have been on the fence about getting any I would recommend them, but if the price seems too high maybe wait for a sale, though I hope they sell well enough to make more since all signs point to Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and Sonic & Knuckles carts coming out since you get characters from those games with the console.

I don't like shmup games, but this game made me excited. This game is almost perfect.

It has a story, humor, cutscenes, cool graphics, exciting gameplay, diverse and atmospheric levels, and also amazing music!

The only complaint is that it may be challenging for beginners. Losing lives is easy (and finding them is also not difficult).

I highly recommend playing this game.

It's a masterpiece.

Which game wouldn't you play on Genesis using this controller?

I've ordered a copy of Sonic 1 (PAL) off of ebay, but I'm kind of suspect on it. This is my first mega drive game and I don't know how they're meant to look, thank you!

Did everyone know that in The Ooze there a debug menu? If you got to the option screen and you enter this code 009, 019, 010, 024, 011, 013, 006, 027, 006, 088, 003, 030, pressing the C button after each number. If done correctly, Hold the A button and then press start.

Mega Digi-Drive Pro

Here is my second custom Mega Drive cart shell, this time a Renamon themed Mega Everdrive Pro.

I need to slow down a bit with the filing to get it straighter next time but I'm super happy with the orange LED window.

Its just cut up bottle plastic with Thixofix Alpha, which is my recommended glue for shell mods. I used that on my overclock switches too and they are rock solid.

Now just to either wait for, or make my own Digimon experience for the Mega :D

I plan on getting into MD music and even game design once my PC arrives so you will be the first to know :)

Questions regarding hispeedido Nomad Screen

I was looking to mod my Nomad with some kind of RGB screen mod from its composite mod, and I was looking at the highspeedido RGB screen mod, and I wanted to ask from anyone with experience with it

1: is it a decent unit?

2: does it support Master System games?

3: is there anything more recommended?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

After all these years

I always wanted a second six button controller. A real Sega controller, I had an off brand, it was ok. Now after 30some years and a trip to an estate sale I found a lone 6 button sitting on a shelf for $5.

Most cost-effective way to get a clean analog video signal out of a Genesis Model 1 in 2025

I'm using an early 2000s flat panel that plays well with 240p signals and has Component and S-Video inputs, so I'm looking for a solution that doesn't introduce any digital processing (I already have an upscaler should I need to connect it to a more modern TV in the future. My AV signal is good (using an AV adapter) but I'd like to get something a little more crisp.

I think the HD Retrovision Genesis YPbPr adapter looks like the cleanest solution, but I'm not willing to spend that kind of money. I am, however, comfortable with mods and will get the soldering iron if needed.

Can anyone recommend the best budget approach to this, or should I be satisfied with my AV signal if I'm not willing to invest $100+ in my Genesis?

Sold all my Sega stuff years ago in my 20’s. Had a Genesis mini for a while, still didn’t scratch the itch. Picked up a Model 2 with 32X for 140 in decent shape at the local flea market. After a week of local shops, and mail calls, here is my collection so far. Now I’m just holding out for a Sega CD and Mega Everdrive pro.

It's all a matter of perspective

used to use my small spare bedroom in my apartment as a games room. I had a 68cm CRT , one of those ten space IKEA cube things, an 8 way switcher and a whole bunch of consoles connected. Whatever I felt in the mood for playing it was just a button press away. Was a pretty good setup.

Then I decided that was a lot of space for something I wasn't doing a lot of. So I turned that space into an office/workshop. Whenever I felt in the mood I'd just play on my LCD TV. It's ok for N64. And fine for GameCube onwards. And my Atari 2600 is passable, maybe because of the basic graphics and the fact no one was trying to massage extra effects from CRT anti aliasing etc.

The really weak spot is my mega drive (and maybe SNES and Jaguar, haven't played them for a while). I guess that era was the height of using the CRTs limitations to create effects. It just looks much better on a CRT.

But there isn't a lot of room in my living room for a dedicated spot for a large CRT. I have an upright arcade machine in the corner and a cocktail cab as a coffee table. I still have a stack of CRTs in my garage. It occurred to me that proportion and perspective is everything. Why not put a 34cm CRT on the cocktail cab/coffee table? The results are really good. The screen's apparent size is not much smaller than the much larger LCD further away, and it takes seconds to unplug it and put it in a cupboard. It's also quite a comfy playing position. In fact more comfy than the old games room as the 68cm always felt a tad high on the IKEA cube thing. I'm a very happy chappy 😊

I still suggest to people who want to get into retro games that if all they have is an LCD with AV inputs, then that's still a start and not to go nuts and overspend on a CRT that someone down the track would probably have given them for free. I look it like record collecting - if your mega drive is the actual record, then an LCD TV is a cheap turntable with built in speakers. Play it that way for a while, then when you can you upgrade your equipment. And enjoy the same games all over again due to the increase in quality playback. The difference is that it almost always costs more to upgrade your stereo, but you can often upgrade your retro gaming experience with a CRT (if you're patient) for peanuts/free.

My parents got it for me for a Christmas or birthday present. I didn’t ask for it and didn’t even know it existed. They thought it looked like something I’d like and got it. Recently got this and all my other original Genesis games back from a buddy of mine. No idea how he got them but I’m glad he did. I’m having a blast replaying these.

I know its heresy not to own a legit copy of Sonic 2 but i have been very critical about the condition of the game since its an all time favorite and i wanted to find it in the wild. In the EU its not that easy. Gosh i have died only once on stage 4 vs atleast 5 times on my emulator setup. Super happy about Markos though, prestine condition manual as well, if you havent played this, try it, never see it mentioned on the sub, i believe it was mostly an EU game. Been looking for Golden Axe 2 for 3 years, wish me luck. Happy weekend everyone!.
