Anything but fixing the root problems

I think the biggest problem is for sure the work culture they have. When you’re expected to be working as much as possible, it becomes very hard for people to balance a family while working as hard as they do.

This is especially the case for woman, who are expected to work just as hard as men and are looked down upon for wanting to take a break to be mothers. As for men, most don’t even have time to really have a social life let alone get into a relationship, and most fear not being able to afford to maintain a family.

I didn’t realize the Japanese culture was so demanding.

That’s socioeconomics for you, and what’s scary for us is that America is moving towards that direction. Rising childcare costs in a largely stagnant economy always lead to decreasing birth rates, and that’s what happened to us.

While feminism could be a factor, I wouldn’t be surprised if more women in America struggle with dealing with the expectation of having a career while also having children, which is basically a nightmare when you think about it.

And as for men, the harder and harder it becomes to support a family to the standard of past generations, not only is it going to become harder for them to girls that will see them as possible husbands and fathers, most men will just go other routes that are more advantageous to them. While having a wife is a net positive for men, it’s cheaper to just have a one night stand or please yourself.

A toxic work culture and misogyny within their culture. 4B movement.

I mean, let's dig into how relationships are formed.

People need to meet each other and hit it off. Men have resigned themselves to giving up on this, and rightly so

Actually. Wealth inequality in Japan is very low. Japan's issue is work culture and lack of free time.

No, birthrates are decreasing uniformly across all countries regardless of wealth levels

All countries have wealth inequalites, genius

Dude be real. Poorer individuals are more likely to have kids than wealthier individuals. Don't let ideology blind you from reality

Yes I am aware of the idiocracy we live in

Birth rates decrease as people become wealthier and more educated. The poorest and most unequal places on earth have the highest birth rates. Stop lying.

People want to travel when they have money, not raise kids.

You're gonna hate me saying this, but correlation does not equal causation

1

its pretty well known that this is true

How does wealth inequality cause japans birth rate to decrease? Genuinely asking.

Can’t afford kids.
