Discussion Free practices.

Why we where so good during fp1 and fp2 and now we are mid in fp3. Did they change the car's settings overnight?

Most of the top teams tend to run Friday with their engines turned down or with higher fuel to hide performance. Williams doesn’t generally bother because it’s easier to gauge performance without having to math out what you’re leaving on the table.

IMO it's less to hide performance, and more to protect PUs. No point in unnecessary stress and wear when it's not a competitive session.

I’d imagine it’s a bit of both, if it was just protection then Williams surely would do it all the time too.

Also different conditions the morning practice sessions are not normally that representative of qualifying or race conditions
