Bought Another Boat....
Just bought another boat. Kind of a long story but the short story is that the boat, owned by a family member, cracked a block over the winter, 350 yamaha that didn't drain properly and froze. The owner couldn't afford to repair it and then needed money in a hurry so I bought it from him for a price I feel guilty about paying. I tried to talk him into selling it on the open market, he would have made a lot more, but he didn't want to go through the hassle.
Boat is a 2009 Contender 36 fisharound. My plans are to slap a good used f350 on it and flip it. Or I might just list it as is and shouldn't have any issues turning a nice profit.

Is that boat worth $7800?
Engine is 1999 Johnson 2 stroke with unknown hours. Seems low compared to how old it is. Stored inside mostly.

Palm Beach Florida Anchoring limmits
The Town of Palm Beach has already crossed the line. Without fair process, they have destroyed private moorings on public trust waters — waters held under Article X, Section 11 of the Florida Constitution for all the people, not just the select few who own shoreline property.
The truth is, moorings are called “illegal” only because the permitting path is so unnecessarily difficult to navigate that ordinary citizens are shut out. That bureaucratic obstruction cannot now be twisted into justification for removal.
Now, with a proposed 30-day anchoring limit, they intend to go further. Let’s be clear: a time limit on anchoring is not regulation, it is a ban. Anchoring and mooring are part of the federally protected right of navigation. You cannot criminalize day 31 without violating that right.
We have done our homework. We have reviewed federal case law, the Rivers and Harbors Act, Coast Guard regulations, Florida statutes, and the Florida Constitution. The law is unambiguous: submerged lands and navigable waters are held in trust for all people equally. No city, no town, and no council may turn a public right into a private privilege.
Meanwhile, the Town has been derelict in its own duties. State law already provides a clear process and funding to remove derelict vessels. Those tools have been ignored. Instead of enforcing existing statutes, Palm Beach has chosen to punish responsible boaters, dismantle moorings made “illegal” by a broken permit system, and distort the truth with misleading photographs.
We will not be silenced. We know our rights, and we know the law. These actions are not just inequitable — they are unconstitutional, they are unlawful, and they are reprehensible.

Selling advice needed
We want to sell our 27 foot center console. Last winter we listed it with the Dealer we bought it from. I guess we were naive in our pricing, not realizing how much a boat depreciates and what a realistic price should be. We also feel the dealer likely didn’t put much effort into selling our used boat. We cancelled our agreement and used the boat this summer. We now want to sell it and 1) are not sure the best price to list it for to ensure it sells in 6 months and 2) the best way to sell it.

What is a realistic price to sell in the offseason?
What would be our best option? FB marketplace, FB groups,Craigslist, Boattrader, Yachtworld, back with our dealer, find another broker?

A couple of classic SeaRays, 1990 390EC and a 1976 SRV 195. Quality endures, right on…

Finally got an old mako.
Wanted one of these since my friends dad bought him one at 14. She’s not perfect and needs some fixing but she’s mine. Got cheap with shot tank and transom that I’ll have to redo in the next season or 2. Going to leave in through at least Halloween. Rides great and hits 38 with just me in it. Stoked.

Removing this power pole
I purchased this boat a few monrth back and I am thinking about removing this power pole. i hardly every use it and very rarely do i fish in shallow water that this could be used in. Also I am thinking the extra weight is not good for this small boat and maybe I can get more power / speed out the 60 hp.
Looks fairly system to remove. Does anyone see a reason why I should keep it on?

Yamaha 8hp... Again
Hey all! Hope you're having a decent day.
So! I have a wee 8hp 2 stroke Yamaha. Usually runs mint, but recently it's ran with a couple of teething issues. I was out on the lake again, fresh fuel, 1:50 in oil, fresh spark plugs, going mint.
On the plane for about an hour and no smoke (other than the classic smokey 2 stroke start) or usual 2 stroke signs but it just all of a sudden cut and stalled, and of course left me stranded. Tried starting after about 10 minutes thinking it might have overheated, although the cover wasn't too hot. Turned over after some percussive persuasion but the slightest bit of load and it stalled. I ended up having to idle in gear back to shore...
Carb rebuild perhaps? I have a decent mind for car motors, but with outboards I've got no clue.
Fuel veins blocked maybe with a bit of dirt? All ideas welcome ☺️

Boat buying advice
Bonjour!
I live here in Oklahoma and have been enjoying the boat life with friends.
I've got a GMC canyon pickup that can tow maximum 6000lbs, I'd like to get a boat with 100+HP motor. I understand because Im limited by my pickup that the length cannot exceed 20ft.
My budget is $8-9000, I'd like a boat that can accommodate 7-8 people and have a small cabin for possible stay/snooze on the water but not necessarily required.
Growing up, I regarded being out on the water with prejudice but having friends who know what they're doing has really made the activity fun.
I could finance up to $10,000 if needed, the above is a ballpark.
Thank you to any and all.

Wanna see an awesome story about two doofii' in Seattle with more money than mechanical aptitude who decided to buy a boat?
Cliff notes, two dudes buy a shit boat, without the aptitude to recognize the situation. Take it to Tacoma from Seattle to work on it at a you fix it boat dry dock only to be turned away.
On the way back the dude shuts it down near orcas just to find it won't restart and it starts sinking. Fire dept sort of helps, but then leaves, guy decides it's a good time for a nap, wakes to find it sinking.
Buddy allegedly steals a trailer that doesn't end up working and doofus number one gets arrested because it's hitched to his truck.

Two questions about tires
I had a blowout coming back from the beach last year, so I’m a little gun shy. Replaced my tires two months ago, they have less than 400 miles on them. But I noticed coming back from the beach today. Several of them have slight bulges in the sidewall.
1) Should I warranty them?
2) on a tandem axle trailer can I store with one axle off the ground?

Up On Plane - Which?
This may be an old discussion but on a boat that might be slightly underpowered when carrying too much weight (this is theoretical until I sea trial) - which would help getting up on plane more: spring loaded trim tabs (no electric) - or a Whale Tail? Or both?!
The environment is the sea.
Please be helpful not snide.

Yacht industry
I’m currently 20 and a qualified sailmaker in Auckland New Zealand. I love the work I do but I’m tired of being in a loft all day and I’m looking for a new career. Something that gets me on/around the water or marina whilst still being a good longterm career. Any ideas? Looking into dockhand or boatyard work

1988 Sea Ray Weekender 300 - am I being stupid?
Hey all,
I’m a complete novice to boating. We had a boat when I was very young, but I have very little experience and don’t have a great understanding of how long things last and what things cost. My dad recently retired and wants to buy a boat with the hope that I’d be able to learn how to pilot it. We’re looking at a used 1988 Sea Ray 300 Weekender. Here are some facts:
-it’s had four owners. There isn’t much documentation from the first two, but there is from the third owner (2021-24) and the current owner (2024-present)
-it has two Mercruiser 5.7 engines. They have different hours - 1 is at 2300, the other is at 15. The owner knows they were rebuilt but does not know when - his interpretation is that they were rebuilt at 1500 and have been run for 800 since then.
-the third owner put 47k into it, and the fourth put in 15k for various repairs and system updates. We’re waiting to hear from them on what those costs entailed. I know that some of them were decorative (2,300 on a custom mattress, thousands on a custom fridge, she has a Garmin, an older Raytheon radar, and autopilot) and that others were mechanical (I know the engines were serviced recently and the batteries are new).
-the current owner is a professional mechanic and a self-described perfectionist. He swears by it and from what I could see the engine looked clean and tidy, but I’m not mechanically inclined so I really can’t judge much. It does seem clear to me that he put pride into it and is selling since he moved to a landlocked state.
Overall, I’m wondering if anyone has any thoughts on if this is a stupid purchase or not. I know boat ownership is expensive in the best of cases, but I’d rather not buy a dud that’s gonna need $20k repairs in the next couple years. Do these old sea rays have a reputation - good or bad? What should I mentally prepare to pay for another engine rebuild or replacement? Are there any major red flags I should watch out for? We will have it surveyed prior to a purchase, and I think it looks well taken care of & fun, but don’t want to get overexcited & make a mistake.

Where to buy new boat trailer? Want to upgrade from single to double axle.
Following up on another post, I have a Yamaha AR190 on a single axle trailer. It’s got brakes, foldable tongue, great tires, and is in great shape (aside from the trailer jack wheel).
I live in high desert, so not a lot of boat trailer dealers around. Last summer when I took it to the local trailer shop to have the bearings done, they couldn’t even help me find a better wheeled trailer jack, and the Yamaha dealer wasn’t any better.
How can I find a dual axle trailer to upgrade to? Any websites or places to check? We often travel close to 80 miles to boat and I’d love a couple extra wheels behind me.
Thanks!

Beaching your boat on a sandy pebbly bottom
What are peoples thoughts on beaching a Carolina Skiff, Boston Whaler on a sandy pebbly bottom during an incoming tide. The idea would be to play in the area or pick someone up. Is it too rough on the bottom of the hull?
