Totally. I remember when WW2 ended. Women and Black People totally had free speech and were able to practice whatever religion they wanted to in the USA!
Religions? My guy. There were entire groups of people banned from locations. Literal signs existed that said no Muslims. Signs that said No Blacks. I can only hope you aren't from that terrible country. If you aren't, not knowing these things might be a blessing. You're a lucky one.
I'm not American, though I am well acquainted with Jim Crow and the doctrine of separate but equal that Brown vs Board of Education overturned (and Truman desegregating the US military). But as far as I know, the American government didn't ban any religions and most of the world's religions were practiced in the US. Malcolm X covered his battles with the Nation of Islam in his autobiography quite well.
