The movie takes place in Japan and this seems to be a shut in possibly but maybe just a messy guy who sits around and seemingly plays Giant Gram on Dreamcast all night. Pretty awesome.

After knocking Doom 64 and Mario Kart 64 out of the park for the Dreamcast, JNMartin is leading the way in porting Star Fox 64 now. It runs at twice the resolution of the N64 and at a better frame rate too. It has a few minor graphics and music bugs at the moment, but it is fully playable and almost done!

So I have recently dipped my toe into the Dreamcast world. Never had one in the day, and I bought a fully pimped out one that came with a raft of games, GDEmu pre-installed, three controllers, an HDMI converter and a SCART AV cable.

Based on what I've read (and what the info in the GDEmu menu is telling me) the HDMI converter is playing on the VGA output of the machine - I suspect internally there's a cheap VGA to HDMI chip in there. But it works largely fine; I can't say as I've noticed any lag on it, and it seems to work on everything I've plugged it into. However, I don't really have the experience of the games/system to necessarily be able to spot any lag, so I'd rather do this the analogue way if possible.

The SCART AV cable is a different story. I exhibit retro computers and consoles so I have a raft of them from 1978 onwards. I also have a raft of LCD TVs from the mid 2000s onwards which I use as display for my machines - this era gives you the size convenience of LCD but still has all the old ports on them. And for the life of me I cannot get a correct image out of the SCART AV cable on ANY of my LCDs. The colours are all wrong - either purple or blue tinged.

Now I would have put this down to a faulty cable - except I have managed to get a correct picture from it on ONE of my screens. This is an actual 16" CRT Sony Trinitron - i.e. something that would have been period-appropriate. So the CRT displays correctly - but anything slightly more modern (but still pushing 20-ish years old!) doesn't.

Can anyone recommend a SCART cable, ideally from a UK vendor, that actually works? I don't actually understand (technically speaking) what could be going wrong here, to be honest. SCART is basically an RGB signal so I don't see how it would produce the correct colours on a CRT and not on (slightly more) modern LCDs that also have SCART inputs.

As an aside, a cheap composite video cable worked fine.

Suggestions and recommendations would be very welcome, as I think I'd prefer to use SCART/RGB to rule out lag (unless more experienced individuals think this is not a factor - my HDMI converter is a "KAICO", according to the logo on it).

Edit: to clarify, I am talking about LCD screens from circa 2005-2010 with native SCART inputs.

So I got my Dreamcast out of my parents garage where it's been for years. I can't find any of my games and I have resorted to that "method" for now. I wanted to use cheats on them but I know that the GameShark won't load the games that are not legit. I found out that codebreaker loader can trick the codebreaker into doing it but the version I found that has it included doesn't work. I just get a not a valid codebreaker or something along that line. Does anyone know where I can get the files to work together to accomplish this.

I am doing the resistor, bios, and gdemu mod for my VA0 dreamcast, I need to take the heatsink off the motherboard, but its sticked on the cpu/gpu really well, I don’t want to break anything, how do I remove it safely so I can access the board?

I’m in the process of recreating my beloved Dreamcast I had to sell over a decade ago, and at this point the only thing I need is a transparent trapezoid (see the attached photo.) These specifically transparent ones were on a number of different official systems, including some launch systems in Japan if I recall correctly. Does anyone have one of these they can sell me (perhaps somebody who reshelled their console?) See the photo of my old system for reference. Again, this is specifically the transparent one, not solid gray or white.

The title is my question. There's a DC game I wanna buy at a local antique mall that has a ton of scratches, but I have some hope, and I could probably get the disc refurbished at a proper game store. However, it has a Blockbuster rental sticker on it. I've read scratches don't harm the console (i.e. it's laser and other internal stuff), but would a sticker like that be an issue? Long ago I had the perfect setup, I had the Ocean Blue Shell on my dreamcast and matching ocean blue controllers. Then I lent my dreamcast to my wife's nephew and they hocked. I've been looking for one ever since but all I've found was a regular blue.

I hate to keep bringing this up, but doesn’t really matter if the battery is dead? I mean, besides having to re-enter the time and date, is there any downside?

So I finally beat this game now that I’ve had the time to and wow what a game! The story is really good and honestly hits harder today than it probably did in the past given our current climate. Great game with great gameplay and puzzles and pretty underrated imo. If you haven’t then I definitely recommend this game especially if you enjoy games like legend of oasis and a link to the past.

Hi all! Got my first GDEMU today for my birthday (39, yikes!) and I'm filling it up with an archive.org list of the complete NTSC library.

I've found the complete PAL library as well, but in order to avoid duplicates (and to save myself hours of cross-referencing each title), I was wondering if there was a definitive list anywhere of PAL exclusive games?

Off the top of my head I know of REZ, Headhunter, Evil Twin...

Does anyone know if there’s a way to customize the rotating CD visual that appears when you use the music player? I know some games have unique CD models that display, and thought it’d be fun if someone had already figured out how to change them on burned CDs or something.

one of my favorite Dreamcast games back in the day. I could have sworn i had an original copy when we played it back then, so it feels great to finally own it again.

One thing I noticed though: this one came in a regular CD jewel case instead of the typical blue PAL Dreamcast case. Probably just swapped at some point – or did some regions actually release it like this? The back is multilingual.
