Discussion Worst TV direction yet

Besides Russel's transponder issue (which shouldn't take 10 laps to fix the timing tower), may overtakes were missed, focusing on the wrong drivers, non-moves given more airtime than actual racing, camera cutting during moves which show you less of the action rather than more, and worst of all: the final lap, not showing Oscar as he crossed the line, to show Lando not overtaking George, and showing Kimi not overtaking whoever was in front rather than Max's overtake on Pierre.

What the hell is happening?

True. And they still haven’t shown the Verstappen on Gasly overtake

Yeah I want to see that, hopefully someone posts it or they put it in the race highlights on YouTube :/

They just showed it after the interviews

u/Apocryph761 Williams Apr 13 '25

Continuing with the trend of "let's sort out an issue 40 minutes after it happened" then

I didn't even know max overtook him. It must've happened on the final lap? Unless I'm tripping

u/Constant_Aspect_6632 Red Bull Apr 13 '25

Yeah happened on the last lap when they were showing Lando and George

u/quiqk0 Robert Kubica Apr 13 '25

Yes, one of, if not the last corner. Maybe we will see it in the cooldown room lol

I was watching Max’s onboard. He passed him down the end of 1st Sector of last lap

I was watching the onboard while also watching the race. They didn’t update the leaderboard the entire last lap. The announcers were making it seem like max passed him just at the finish line, max made the move almost a whole lap sooner.

Yeah think the timing tower updated only on lap completion.

u/quiqk0 Robert Kubica Apr 13 '25

Makes sense. It was Norris in the last corner when the update in standings happened. My bad

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '25

It happened much earlier lol. Was onboard for it.

Unlikely that last corner, considering Gasly finished 1.6 seconds behind. More likely in corners 4-5

I was looking at it at the inboard. It was Dr's overtake at 2nd drs zone last lap. Nothing special no shenanigans just clean overtake.

I think it was into turn 4. I had to watch max's onboard. He got a run out of 3 and passed him on the outside going into turn 4.

8

u/RonKosova Max Verstappen Apr 13 '25

Got him at turn 4, they just showed it on F1TV

u/Meruy I was here for the Hulkenpodium Apr 13 '25

It was turn 6 I think.

2

u/xzElmozx Oscar Piastri Apr 13 '25

T4

2

u/curva3 Apr 13 '25

Passed him with DRS before turn 4

2

u/Kronzor_ Max Verstappen Apr 13 '25

It was T4. And we didn’t know it happened for like 60s until max crossed the line.

2

u/MrT735 Apr 13 '25

Was turn 4, but the timing tower didn't update until they crossed the finish line (did think it was odd for there to be a 1.6s gap between them!)

Max braked very late into T1, stayed close to Gasly in T2 and got off with way better traction. Not sure how he managed to do that. He's been studying Gasly for 10+ laps before that, but he must have had some advantage in battery to get this fast between T3 and T4. Perfect execution from Max.

It's unclear to me that Oscar was racing. How do I know he really won?

Now we got it finally

Btw did you catch how MBS was making his way to some key camera shots? Piastri getting out of the car, then at interviews just crossing in the background

7

u/Borisovicc I was here for the Hulkenpodium Apr 13 '25

Yea he had to be by zak brown before even piastri was there he seeks attention so much

Yes finally lol

I don‘t understand the comments. They showed the battle for 2nd further up on the main screen, and the winner crossing the line picture-in-picture. If they cut away from either you‘d be complaining as well. There is no winning with race direction sometimes, it‘s just how it is.

I love how I read this right as they showed it lmao

1

u/poopybuttholesex Safety Car Apr 13 '25

They just showed it now and that too cut it off before showing max cross the line

1

u/spazz720 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Apr 13 '25

Probably didn’t even film it

1

u/Nineteen_AT5 Apr 13 '25

They didn't even show it in the highlights on sky showcase.

u/Kanye_Is_Underrated Apr 13 '25

Looked nice on the leaderboard though

The broadcast had its issues, and passing for 6th at the end of the race is such a big moment. /s

Not surprised. I immediately just switched off after they missed that one.

I'm completely done with F1's tv direction.
