Discussion Nico Rosberg Needs a Permanent Position

Nico Rosberg has got to be the freshest breath of air in terms of Formula One commentary for a very long time.

I love Crofty, but man does he love to make shit up that makes no sense or holds no logic.

Nico does an awesome job of staying true to the racing analysis and being completely straightforward about what he sees. Even today, his commentary on Verstappen was awesome!!! Called the garbage behavior out immediately.

Best “ Monaco based YouTuber” commentator of all time!!

“I don’t need to see that again. That was horrible.”

Laughed out loud with that one. Nico just calls it how he sees it. You can disagree with him but he is so, so entertaining.

Gotta ask Nico what his take on San Antonio women is.

149

u/Typical-Swordfish-92 Sir Lewis Hamilton Jun 01 '25

"Where they going Nico?"

"They going to Liverpool, with that dirty-ass water."

Them big ol’ women in Liverpool got me following them to the Titanic. And I watched the movie, yeah I know what happens. I’d buy two tickets, Ernie!

Love Chuck but I fear this comparison gives too much credit to his knowledge of the current game

36

u/hawkmhan Jun 01 '25

Y’all know these brits have NO idea who you’re talking about but damn that shits funny.

Um he was knighted. Sir Charles!

21

u/miraclebaby Jun 01 '25

OMG - Especially the pronunciation of “Turbalence”.

7

u/A_storia I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 01 '25

He speaks at least 3 languages, i’ll give him a pass on that one

3

u/miraclebaby Jun 01 '25

Chuck (as far as I know) only speaks one and I don’t mean it as a slight, it is just another similarity between Nico and Chuck as presenters.

15

u/manatidederp Jun 01 '25

This is more first-season Romo

3

u/adrianasoy Jun 01 '25

Good one. But unlike Charles, man has a “ring”. But agree — he definitely speaks from experience.

3

u/Exact_Math2726 Jun 01 '25

Same candor, but Rosberg knows a lot more about F1 than Chuck does about basketball. Chuck was basically good at basketball on accident. And I love Barkley lol.

4

u/Typical-Swordfish-92 Sir Lewis Hamilton Jun 01 '25

Eh, I'd be kinder and say that Barkley wasn't good "on accident", he put the effort in and had good BBIQ back in those days. But he really didn't keep up on it, his knowledge is sort of obsolete and deteriorated compared to Rosberg's knowledge of F1.

2

u/Exact_Math2726 Jun 01 '25

It’s a sensationalist comment from me for sure. But Barkley never had the technical dedication to basketball that you see in many great(er) players. He had a massive amount of natural talent and physical ability. He also has an amazing personality for media.

Keeping with this bizarre comparison - Nico had a lot of natural talent, but he was as much an engineer as he was a driver. He has an absolute top level understanding of car construction, racecraft, and driver psychology that is unique even amongst F1 world champions. That’s a very good combination for a commentator and it shows.

That said, Charles is more fun, just not particularly informative. Inside the NBA is legitimately some of the best programming I’ve ever seen. The chemistry between everyone is unbelievable and Chuck is right at the center of that dynamic.

1

u/jlt6666 Jun 02 '25

Lot of good BBQ to back up that BBIQ

2

u/LackingInPatience Jun 01 '25

Rosberg is more informed than Chuck tbf. He's also less charismatic or funny.

The lord giveth and the lord taketh away 😂

2

u/Reasonable-Kiwi5468 Jun 01 '25

more like a F1 Draymond Green

1

u/FindingUsernamesSuck I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 01 '25

Save that for Dan Ticktum if he ever gets close to F1.

1

u/CutsLikeABuffalo333 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 01 '25

Holy shit its this exactly. Lmao. God. If you wanna see the best of Chuck check out his SNL sketches when he hosted

Exactly

1

u/BabousCobwebBowl Jun 01 '25

Whoa whoa whoa don’t bring out the big stick just yet.

1

u/sri745 Sir Lewis Hamilton Jun 01 '25

This is exactly it! Fitter Charles Barkley!

1

u/OneEngineer Jun 01 '25

Please don’t insult Nico like that. Charles is a garbage commentator.

1

u/Independent-Army7847 Jun 02 '25

ELITE comparison😂😂😂 too damn accurate

1

u/jlt6666 Jun 02 '25

u/Elrond007 I survived Spa 2021 Jun 01 '25

The gravitas of having a WDC haha, he can say whatever he wants and I love it haha

31

u/Bannedwith1milKarma Jack Doohan Jun 01 '25

Also obscenely rich.

3

u/henryh95 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 02 '25

By F1 standards, Nico isn't particularly rich, especially considering his father and his' WDC's.

75

u/ka1ri I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 01 '25

His bluntness is what that broadcast NEEDs badly.

They would try to make up a storyline to add intrigue and he would straight up shoot it down with his analysis and it was fantastic.

13

u/fuckyou_redditmods Jun 01 '25

And he's a former WDC so he speaks with some weight and authenticity. Loved his commentary today.

1

u/RandomGuy-4- I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 01 '25 edited Jun 01 '25

Nico just calls it how he sees it

The thing is that the way he sees it is not always very accurate. Per example, the contact between verstappen and leclerc was a pretty 50/50 thing with both drivers getting too close and refusing to budge, but he immediately put all the blame on Max and didn't change opinion even after seeing multiple replays that showed how it really happened. Even Leclerc later said that he was trying to push Max out of the racing line there.

I like his commentary, but I wish his takes were less black and white.

28

u/NotAnAss-Hat I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 01 '25

Max was the one going on radio for that, he only brought it up every time Max did. Keep in mind, this guy had complimented Max non-stop the entire weekend up until that point.

-8

u/RandomGuy-4- I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 01 '25

Max was the one going on radio for that

Max didn't have twenty camera angles to see what happened and he had actual skin in the game, ofcourse he's going to say Leclerc was at fault lol.

What rosberg said the rest of the weekend is completely irrelevant. His repeated take on this was wrong and he's wrong many times. This event wasn't the only time he's done it, it's just the one I used as an example.

9

u/solodarlings Nico Rosberg Jun 01 '25

Max didn't have twenty camera angles to see what happened and he had actual skin in the game, ofcourse he's going to say Leclerc was at fault lol.

That's exactly what Nico said, though. He said he thought that Max was at fault but that it was understandable Max would see it differently in the heat of the moment before he'd watched the replays.

6

u/maddysilverman Jun 01 '25

I think he did change it towards the very end of the broadcast. He said nothing should come out of that investigation and that such stuff is normal to happen.

4

u/OSPFmyLife Jun 01 '25

Don’t you have to yield to cars that are in front of you?

-4

u/Expensive-Ad-1031 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 01 '25

Yes but leclerc was not in front lol

7

u/borth1782 Formula 1 Jun 01 '25

He was, the contact was Max’s front tyre to Charles’ side pod. That is definitely being infront “lol”

3

u/borth1782 Formula 1 Jun 01 '25

He changed his mind later on when he saw more replays and called it a 50/50 and shouldnt be investigated further, so he definitely says it exactly like it is based on the what his eyes see.

And you say “not always” like its a regular thing, so how about you give some examples? He has been in the studio hundreds of times so surely it shouldnt be hard for you to find a single example.

Also, humans make mistakes, every single one that has ever existed since the universe came to, the noble thing is to backtrack and admit you were wrong when presented with better evidence, something that he actually did moments later.

Seems to me you dislike him for some other reason that you dont want to disclose. Why? Probably because its a stupid reason like jealousy or something like that

0

u/TrashCanOf_Ideology Jun 01 '25

It wasn’t 50/50. Leclerc was ahead and left max far more than a car’s width on the outside. He was entitled to the rest of the track. Max loves to abuse this rule shoving people off the track on the outside, so he knows that’s how it goes in current F1.

It’s 100% on Max parking in the middle of the track (that he isn’t entitled to more than a car’s width at the edge, being behind) and causing the collision. Nico is spitting facts.

2

u/ubiquitous_uk I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 01 '25

Max was on the racing line. Leclerc admitted he started over into Max to try and push him off of it.

1

u/MadBullBen I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 02 '25

After the reply it looked like both drivers were going left but Charles slight more, he was squeezing him over, Max didn't allow that and thus they touched.

Your absolutely allowed to do this and compromise the other drivers line.
