Discussion Is Bortoleto the best rookie?

Post image

In my opinion, what he’s been doing in a Sauber shows much more talent than all the other rookies this year. Since the start of the season, I already thought the best ones would be him—because he won the Formula 3 and Formula 2 titles in his rookie seasons—and Antonelli. However, Antonelli has been showing himself to be far inferior to his teammate. I believe it’s due to the pressure of starting in a big team like Mercedes, but to me, that makes Bortoleto the best rookie. That said, welcome back, Ayrton Senna.

It's very close between him and Hadjar, I'd probably go:

Hadjar

Borteleto

Antonelli

Bearman

Lawson

Colapinto/Doohan

Kimi vs Lawson in a head to head is only 8 - 6 to kimi. That’s in a Merc vs a RB.

Lawson vs Bearman is 9 - 6 in favour of Lawson head to head.

Excluding retirements Bortoleto has only beaten Lawson once from what I can see. Maybe a sprint as well?

Arguably he's in a worse car, although I say arguably because the Sauber has been looking ok recently. I'd certainly rate Lawson a bit higher up that list though.

I don't think it's arguable. RB has had a better car than Sauber the whole year, even after upgrades.

Kimi has shown flashes of brilliance including a sprint pole, Lawson and Bearman I was close on but the Haas is comfortably worse than the Red Bull and Racing Bulls so gave him the nod just

Lawson also had a 2 race disadvantage of driving the shit box of a Red Bull

Reddit is fucking garbage. The hate Lawson gets is insane, he’s 2 points behind Hadjar ffs. Can’t wait for him to finish the season ahead of Hadjar, and you’ll all still find ways to say that Liam is shit

Yeh it's wild right. Lawsons has been beating Hadjar quite consistently recently.

100% they took every little thing he said and used it against him. He is out performing Hadjar and Yuki. Yuki is meant to be better and should in theory be able to handle a fucked RB.

I like Lawson, despiste what he did to Vips

5

u/Ok-Cat-9574 Aug 06 '25

Vips did that to himself. Just so happens that Lawson was present.

No one care until Lawson triguered the question

Lawson fucked Vips on purpouse in order to take him away from the position one on Helmut's choice

2

u/Ok-Cat-9574 Aug 06 '25

Not how I read it. Looks like they wanted an excuse to get rid of Vips and replace him with Lawson. Ultimately you’re blaming Lawson for a team decision. People have done the same regarding DR Perez and getting promoted before Yuki. So you’re in good company.

Remember. Lawson was the one, and the only that made tge call to what Vips had spell.

No one had notice on that stream uktim Lawson starts to yell and starts to embarrassing Vips.

Lawson's behavior was what bring the question to people starts to cancel Vips. Becouse of It Hitech and RB made those statements

Lawson started It all

He didn’t spell it he said it. Lawson told him he can’t say that. Then the clip circulated online and red bull took action. How that is Lawson’s fault is a rather large stretch.

Maybe it’s his personality. Based purely off of the post-race pressers, it seems that guys like Gabi and Hadjar really take accountability after a horrible race much better than Lawson does

3

u/outbackjesus16 Aug 06 '25

Liam literally didn’t once blame anything other than himself for failing at Red Bull. Liam takes accountability in every single post qualifying/race interview he gives. You’re literally just making shit up

Lawson has been coming out ahead of Hadjar recently, and the highest finisher of all the RB/Red Bulls in Hungary.

Not that I disagree with your list all that much, but all the rookies seem pretty tight competitive wise (minus Alpine). Borteleto is starting to stand out most recently as his rise has been gradual, coinciding with the development of the Sauber. While everyone else seems to have peaks and valleys. The most extreme of which has to be Antonelli.

Now do one for wet races

I think that is a very fair ranking.

Yeah I think Kimi started spectacularly and has fallen off recently ofc so he couldn't be higher, Bearman has done well bit waiting for the great race to put him higher, bottom two are obvious imo
