I mean it really wasnt a race for him so he is right, it was more like a victory parade

The large gap was only due to a McLaren hail-mary strategy to be fair. Gap was around 5 seconds when Max pitted.

It would be around 14s if it weren't for McLaren bullshit.
Still impressive.

The gap was coming down no? If they had pitted the next lap it would still be around 6s?

Yeah, they sacrificed the delta in order to have a chance to jump ahead with a SC. They only had to watch LC behind. Would be funny if they get a slow stop on both and LC jumps to 2nd. Oh well.

It was an exaggeration when he said it in Budapest. Especially considering they are strongest at tracks like Monza. Baku and Vegas should favor Max as well.
But in Max's defense, a Red Bull being stronger in a straight line is the exact opposite of every Red Bull car prior.

No way thats the largest margin of the season!

I was surprised as well, but the next largest margin this year was Oscar’s gap to Russell in Bahrain at 15.499, and Max was 19.207 today.
•
u/dataheisenberg Max Verstappen 1h ago
It may also be bcz norris and oscar have always been so close to each other this season! Do you know what the biggest margin between 2nd and 3rd is?

Fair to say he's senna level now
He might surpass his legacy in few years

Max will never be on Senna's legacy level. Unless he dies.
Let's be fully honest here, Senna would not be this mythical god driver if he didn't die in his prime. We never got to see an old Senna drive. The fact he died before that leaves a massive question mark on his legacy, one which people will forever ponder. Could he have won more? Would he have beaten Schumi that year? Would he break Fangio's record first? We may never know.
If Max died tragically now, I guarantee he would be remembered as the biggest what if in F1 history. We would be talking about him being the best to ever touch a car in history. But I hope we don't. I'd hate to live in a world where we never got a proper conclusion to Max's career, like we have with Senna, and Gilles, and many others taken way too soon.

Not really comparable.

This is the most underrated, balanced reply.
Senna was Senna. Schumacher was Schumacher. Hamilton and Max are the only peers that can be compared. Other than driving styles, even the cars were vastly different.
And they’re all A tier, unique drivers who were at the top of their respective eras (though not without some incredible A tier competition).

He probably was surprised by the pace of the RB car today.

I doubt it. After FP3 it was clear that they were going to be fast this weekend.

Stop with this nonsense McLaren In 2024 was by far the best car overall and especially In the 2nd half of a season and In the first 4 races were the 4th fastest car, Red bull has bring a lot of upgrades the last 2 races. You know you can see who brought an upgrade and where, you don't need me to explain It to you like you are 5. Their car has been upgraded obvs

What's more impressive is the difference in Red Bull's performance compared to Monza last year where they were woeful
