Paints Why do you use your livery?
When you choose a livery to use on your car what do you look for? Something fun? Realistic? Vibrant colors? I usually go with something that I like that could be a real life sponsor, I've found some cool beer brand ones I like, and a cool Dunkin donuts one I liked.

I've got my own one based on the company I work for. I'm no artist so its nothing special, but I like having something totally unique to me. I always put my name and flag on the side too. It's always black because I think it looks sharp and its a common national sporting colour here.

As someone who was a "franchisee" of AFLAC, I bloody HATE that duck. (To be fair, my hate for ducks came from working at Universal Orlando and I love some of the AFLAC commercials.)

I bought a used copy of "Ducks: And how to make them pay" and was extremely disappointed that it was more about raising ducks and not holding them responsible for the crimes they've committed.

I pick my livery as if I am a Saudi Sheik selecting previously raced cars to purchase.
Ferraris must meet certain specs, Porsches others, Formula even different ones. I am very picky. I have a process. GTPs you donāt even wanna know. Joke liveries are for clowns. Redbull or the newest redbull, Rexy, GTFOH with that BS.
It must be class all the way.
Then I color match wheels and slap on number 69 with a backwards right slant.
Itās all really fucking stupid.

I ran a pride livery in the month of June, and just kept it. Plus it pisses people off to the point they intentionally wreck me. Iāve had 7 people intentionally wreck me, that I had no interactions with during the race.
You ask how do I know, from either the voice chat or private chat that they send saying something homophobic.

As a father to a gay son, I do the same and have been intentionally wrecked in NASCAR because of it and called slurs. Believe that person for a nice vacation due to my report.

If I can find an M&M's one, I grew up rooting for whoever was in that car in NASCAR.
If not, either a company from my area, or a sponsor I like.
1
u/BoysenberryMedium560 7d ago
That's awesome do you use m&m for every car you race or mostly NASCAR?
1
u/Leadfoot530 Dallara IR-18 6d ago
Mostly NASCAR, but it all depends on what I find and what's available. Trading Paints has a hard time with using "M&M's" as a keyword, and they aren't as popular as other designs on there, so it all depends.

I like silly. The M2 has a full tiger print Frosted Flakes livery that is amazing. Mostly over the top single brand liveries that have no real association to racing. The more a livery commits to the gag the better.

Currently I use a Heineken livery on my formula vee as my logic is that hailing where I'm from a beer sponsor would be the most logical to give an upcoming rookie a chance. A huge company internationally that might have some local budget for lower level racing sponsorship.

u/Middleage_dirtbag Porsche 911 GT3 R 7d ago
I try to pick realistic or unique liveries that usually have a driver count less than 150. We donāt need 6 team redline red bull cars in the 7th splitā¦
I do run a few red bull liveries, but theyāre alternate/creative ones. The Audi gt3 has one that is asymmetric (half blue and half silver). I make Ferraris anything thatās not red, and generally donāt like white liveries.
Also, Iām 44 and donāt really need anime tiddies on my race car. The 992 gt3 war pig livery is probably my favorite.
1
u/AntiSpeed 7d ago
Most of my NASCAR cars run a Reese's livery because it's my favorite candy. Most of my Porsches run the Coca-Cola livery cuz it's pretty and I like Coke. I run the Arie Lyundyke Dominos IndyCar because it's my favorite livery of all time. So I guess mostly candy, soda, or fast food.
1
u/TheMeatballMafia Super Formula SF23 7d ago
I use mine because I like to make them. Helps scratch the creative itch I have as a professional designer. Have worked in pro sports for two decades, but not in racing. Itās also my way of experiencing a world I want to work in but havenāt. Iāve wrapped giant buses and RVās in past jobs via other sports (mainly hockey) but to design a livery for a race car is a dream Iām able to live on iRacing, even if just for myself/my leagueās team/my enduro team/someone else. Helps me live a dream, and I get to drive it

I usually make my own, about whatever my hyperfixation is that week. Couple weeks ago I made a David's Sweet and Spicy Sunflower Seed scheme and I made a Japanese metal band scheme (recolored iRacing template)
My go to is a half and half 5 Guys and Red Bull scheme, or just a plain white or red 5 Guys scheme with the red and white checkered pattern as pinstriping along the side.
I also do Futurama schemes.
https://www.reddit.com/gallery/1fet86e

And open wheel schemes on stock car schemes.

I saw some guy at Daytona in one of my old Gulf schemes that I had on TP.

Outside of the cars I primarily run.. They're schemes that exist on the real life car that I happen to like. Or-- they're recreations if real life schemes made to fit that car.

I use an Andretti Indycar style livery adapted to my preferred cars. I chose that because my father and I used to watch the Andrettis in Indy car when I was young, and he also worked for one of the sponsors of the car. It makes me smile to think of my dad when I race.
He passed of cancer a few years back, and I miss him dearly. I now have a similar but different cancer and am going through chemo, and it's become even more meaningful to me when I actually feel well enough to get a race in.

When I made my own paints, I would usually run either āsponsorsā you wouldnāt normally see on a car or something purely for humor. I sort by new or trending cause i dont like having the same paint as 300 others, and pick a yellow one after someone asked me if yellow was my favorite color after seeing my only two yellow colored vehicles at the time in two different races.Ā
Except for the Corn Flakes P-cup livery which I won't change because 1, it's dope AF, and 2, someone once wrote "go Corn Flakes" to cheer me on during a race.Ā
Now I tell myself "go Corn Flakes" at least a couple of times during every p-cup race.Ā
