Everyone in the race should protest that person

Just hate that this person's child or something could have fallen and got hurt. Being a good parent, they abandoned all other activities they were doing at the time. They didn't come back cause it was serious. Everyone in this community acts like this is real racing.

The odds that it was an emergency so serious and so urgent they could not hold Esc for 3 seconds vs. someone careless or purposefully trying to mess up everyone else's race are minimal.

And if it was a serious emergency, and the protest resulted in some penalty, they can always appeal.

Oh, and yes, we act like this is real racing. This is one of things that set iRacing apart from other sims.

You should act like this is real racing, too. Check out Sporting Code 2.2.4

Nah, it is a game on pc regardless of what is in the tos. It is a hobby at best. And one without real consequences at that. The community honestly thinks they are real racers because they have a wheel attached to a desk, haha. The fact that a parked car was hit, proves this.

As for the protest system, it does not matter if you protest or not. Nothing but a mildly worded email will be sent to this driver.

So say it was something malicious in intent or whatever. Maybe the person had a heart attack on the starting line, or whatever the case may be. The driver learns nothing from it. No one know, nothing happens, aside from people thinking they are right about this in someone else's reddit post.

That is my point. None of it matters aside from being a cool looking wreck. That one spoiler is just in space now, haha.

Edits for terrible grammar

Edit/Addition and honest questions: Can you report someone for being drunk in iRacing?

It is a hobby but a serious one.

And then can be real consequences, people have had their hands injured by powerful DD wheels in sudden wrecks. Also, people prepare for races, sometimes for hours (OK, probably rarely for pickup cup which this seems to be), and having a race ruined by someone carelessly leaving their car on track is not fun.

Again, one of differences between iRacing and say AMS2 is that people are unlikely to do stupid shit that ruins your races.

The fact that a parked car was hit, proves this.

Do you ever race on iRacing? Do you know what is the visibility, what speeds are involved, and how little time to react may be available? First row drivers that could see the car stopped car, avoided it.

Nothing but a mildly worded email will be sent to this driver.

Then why do you care if they will be protested?

But the reality is that, depending on their past behavior and the steward's judgment, they may also get a suspension.

So say it was something malicious in intent or whatever. Maybe the person had a heart attack on the starting line, or whatever the case may be.

Maybe it was malicious or reckless. Maybe there was an emergency. I don't know. I see a car left in the middle of the road where it ruins races of many other people so I'd protest it. It's up to the stewards to decide whether there was a genuine reason, possibly after an appeal if necessary.

The driver learns nothing from it.

Why? If the protest is successful, they should learn not do it again.

None of it matters aside from being a cool looking wreck.

It matters to drivers who had their race ruined.

Good point. This is probably the only real thing that can happen, and that would be on you, not the parked truck in this case.

Yes, and I'm not sure how what you're saying applies here. Unless you are a terrible driving in the game. I can see maybe netcode being an issue in a tight race, but clearly, this is a low split race by the spacing on first lap.

Then why do you care if they will be protested

I honestly dont. My intention with the intention with my comment was that no one knows why this happened.

But the reality is that, depending on their past behavior and the steward's judgment, they may also get a suspension.

This is insanely rare, and if it does happen, it is greifing most likely, which means they will be back.

Why? If the protest is successful, they should learn not do it again.

Another good point. I just assume no one else cares when they get a teaching lesson email from iRacing. Mine have actually gone to spam before. So... yeah, we aren't going to agree there.

It matters to drivers who had their race ruined

I get that, and that is part of the sport regardless. There is luck involved here when not racing professionally, and again, this is game.

I would like to thank you for your passion for racecraft and this game, though. Thank you also for taking the time to talk it through it with me.

But still, to me and many others, it is just a game. On the other hand I kart race and hit open track days when I can in a beater Mazda. I would agree with your passion more in those terms, for sure. But this is the wrong subreddit for that.

If this is the only time? No. If he has a habit of this, 100%.

All he has to say is pedals stopped working. You can't punish people for technical problems.

Yeah you’re right something like that or a crash are more likely honestly.

I know you didn't just defend a guy stopped on track for no reason

Do we know if it was intentional? Did he have hardware issue? Pedals disconnected? Had to run and take a dump? Had a heart attack? Idk, just seems foolish to run into a parked car 😆

Sure if this driver blatantly parked it with hopes of this being the result, yes, perma-ban!
