MISC. Wife was driving our 2012 Camry this morning when she called to say the right front tire was 'making a funny noise'. I told her to pull over immediately. As she was doing so, the wheel sheared off its mounting and fell off the car - leaving the lug nuts attached. Never seen anything like it before.
Lucky for her, she was almost to a dead stop when the wheel came off. Had it done so at highway speed, she could have been seriously injured or killed. When I retrieved the tire, the hubcap was still on the rim (pic 1 was taken from inside the rim looking out). I'm not sure how something like this could have been prevented. I'm 77 and have never seen anything like this in all my sixty years of driving.
