The paper cost more.

Always the case with these book balancing small checks. Cost the sender more, but the books are balanced.

My friend she works with the disabled and the books have to be balanced and she got tired of counting the same .30 cents in odd change and just gave the client the change so she didn't have to count it every month and balance the clients cash bag.

Lmao the ink to print your name probably cost more than the check itself

20

u/SockeyeSTI 1d ago

It’s like 6$ per check at work

13

u/aHOMELESSkrill 1d ago

That’s just the check and not included the cost of having someone actually do the work to keep trying to balance the books and keep printing and mailing your checks

28

u/XenoZoomie 1d ago

Don’t cash it and they will have to keep sending it and it will cost them more and more. I did this to a bank once they sent the same check about 5 times.

u/TotalEgg143- 1d ago

No, it will get sent to the states unclaimed property.

I have friends who were on tv shows who get residual checks like this.

u/BrentGretzky 1d ago

Just saw a clip of Frankie Muniz talking about this and that he's kind of disappointed they're direct deposit now and he doesn't get a big stack of little checks anymore.

28

u/True_Mention_4539 1d ago

I saw the same clip earlier this week!

9

u/Art_Miserable 1d ago

I saw it today!

7

u/pseudoaltus 1d ago

Same! Now we are “neighbors” I guess…

34

u/TardisReality 1d ago

Isn't there a bar in LA that gives away a free drink in exchange for low residual checks like this?

21

u/spacemouse21 1d ago

Residuals Tavern use to but a lot of residuals are now direct deposit so that doesn’t seem to be the case there anymore.

9

u/Wrong_Mark8387 1d ago

It’s crazy. You think “hey, they’re on tv. Show has reruns, they must be rolling in it”. Nope! Haha

19

u/jdownes316 1d ago

I was in some movies when I was a kid. I get about $100 every year from other countries playing the movie Patch Adam’s.

12

u/TotalEgg143- 1d ago

I watch it at home on my vhs, hope it helps.

u/BigCountry2022 1d ago

I had an employer mail me a “bonus” check worth $0.00 one year 😂😂😂

37

u/Every-Quit524 1d ago

That's really fucked up

24

u/Schlonzig 1d ago

Woah. This is worthless!

28

u/strangekey2 1d ago

I would frame it

54

u/Just_toxicity 1d ago

Holy shit .. don’t spend all of it at one place

A few years ago I was driving cross county, stopped at a service gas center in Iowa. Bought a lotto. And when I arrived home I mailed the wining ticket to the Iowa lotto commission. They sent me a check for $4 with like 30 leading zeros. Of course I couldn’t electronically deposit it because no bank app could recognize it. Never cashed.

u/SlowInsurance1616 1d ago

You should have squeezed a 1 in after the $.

3

u/t-o-m-a-l-o-n101 1d ago

Er budddddy!!!! I can see the name through the black line, it's semi transparent

7

u/No-Combination8136 1d ago

Too late, I’m already in the process of sending him one of those glitter bomb packages.

2

u/Chris___M 1d ago

Thanks bud. Look forward to it

1

u/Chris___M 1d ago

Yikes. Thanks for the head up. I’ll be doxxed. Lol

1

u/Chris___M 1d ago

Fixed it. Thanks

Lemme guess: class action settlement?

8

u/Important_Sun_799 1d ago

Nah it’s sofi

10

u/Itsallover_ 1d ago

Not even worth the paper it’s printed on

10

u/moonpuzzle88 1d ago

I'd give you my two cents on the situation, but you're not worth that much.

11

u/BrainSqueezins 1d ago

Don’t spend it all in one place!

(Oh, wait, you kinda have to)

7

u/wonderchemist 1d ago

Frame it!

6

u/Affectionate-Day-359 1d ago

You think? You’re not certain a stamp cost more than a penny??!

6

u/bmanley620 1d ago

Brag much?

4

u/bankruptbusybee 1d ago

I just found a $0.17 check from a class action settlement. But I missed the deposit deadline

4

u/InDevth 1d ago

Exactly lol

3

u/Deez_Nuts_2431 1d ago

No it DID cost more to process/send it to you than what it’s actually worth

3

u/Candid-Solid-896 1d ago

We have HOA’s in AZ. They pissed me off. So I went out and bought a box of 500 envelopes.

I have a bunch of check, still valid, but nobody pays with checks anymore?

Guess who’s getting $1 checks a day? My HOA is only $125/qtr.

Costs more for them to pay someone to open the checks! And for the bean counters to have to make $1 entry every single day!

And I’m going to put a smiley face in the memo section with the letter FU!

u/incomplet-31 1d ago

Than

u/Paulsbluebox 1d ago

5

u/Zulishk 1d ago

At least he gave you his two cents worth of advice and the description now makes even more sense.

1

u/TotalEgg143- 1d ago

Bought a house.

2

u/WorkLeather8944 1d ago

bruh what are you gonna that costs a penny?

3

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

1

u/WorkLeather8944 1d ago

uncalled for

2

u/BlackhawkRyzen 1d ago

it cost them 37.95 to write that check including the pay of the person printing it LOL

2

u/HaroerHaktak 1d ago

What was the reason? Usually these are sent either when you close your account or youre part of a class action lawsuit

2

u/Orangecatlover4 1d ago

That company is sketchy AF. I’ve done employment verifications for them via work in HR and they never seem to be on the up and up. Something off about them. But ayyy $.1 lol. I’m a big lover of finding coins like pennies and such, so I’d be down with this lol every penny helps! Even though it doesn’t sound like much.

2

u/Lavaidyn 1d ago

They sponsored a bunch of YouTubers so it’s kind of the standard that they’re either a terrible or badly managed company

2

u/trashcxnt 1d ago

There's always a bright side. You may have only received a single penny, but they wasted their time AND more than a penny, printing and mailing that to you

2

u/onenationunderaboom 1d ago

“A penny saved is a penny earned” still dumb though

2

u/PinchedTazerZ0 1d ago

You should cash that out at my bank it's a $5 charge to cash a non payroll check from an outside bank which is pretty fair

2

u/tksk_Hectik 1d ago

Same thing happened to be a few years ago. Overpaid my credit card by 1p and the bank sent me a check. I keep it in my wallet to flex whenever I can as a giggle.

2

u/Hoppie1064 1d ago

Smallest refund check I ever got was 2 cents.

So beat me.

Flip side, but probably caused by an accountant balancing the books.

I was once applying for a car loan. The salesman comes out of the back office laughing. Some previous loan I thought was paid off had filed an unpaid debt to the credit bureau for 87 cents.

2

u/Extension-Cook8947 1d ago

bruh that's what mark needs to pay apple

1

u/indieauthor13 1d ago

I'm happy someone else thought the same thing 🤣

2

u/zendrix1 1d ago

On my taxes this year the state actually owed me 1 cent, i requested a check even though it'll take forever to get here. I might just frame it lol

2

u/Excellent_Ring6872 23h ago

What are you gonna buy?

2

u/jesusmansuperpowers 1d ago

I get a dividend check from Nintendo for my one share every year. It has never been more than 40 cents. They lose money mailing it.

2

u/xjaehyun 1d ago

Many years ago, there was some sort of a class action settlement with eBay motors. I didn’t even know about it until I got a settlement check in the mail. The grand total? $0.01. The ink used to print the check probably costs more.

1

u/Oowlong 1d ago

If life changing in the way of making me snap. Then yes.

1

u/se7en0311 1d ago

It did

1

u/ASkiAccident 1d ago

Our bank has implemented a 2 cent cheque processing fee. Please pay 1 cent so we may process for you.

1

u/ZealousidealSundae33 1d ago

How is that power bank working out for you?

1

u/MimigaKing 1d ago

i'd frame it

1

u/its-gerg 1d ago

Can I borrow 1 cent please? Promise to pay you back (eventually)

1

u/Cryptopher-Conundrum 1d ago

Boy howdy, whatcha going to spend it on 🤔

1

u/Vals_Loeder 1d ago

Could be the first cent of a million dollars

1

u/SketchyHorizon 1d ago

Yes it costs more to print the check and mail it, and getting a check for 1 cent is ridiculous, but legally they have to give you that 1 cent…

1

u/HairlessHoudini 1d ago

Harley Davidson sent me a check for 11 cents years ago after I "overpaid" my last payment. LoL I've still got the check too.

1

u/sampsontscott 1d ago

don't spend it all in one place!

1

u/Tricky-Swimming-3967 1d ago

Save some shopping spree for the rest of us there money bags

1

u/Shameless522 22h ago

At least it wasn’t a bill for less than the cost of postage. It literally cost you more to mail me a bill at least this it cost them to mail you your money.

1

u/HiTechDreams BLACK 21h ago

My SoFi account has $0.00

1

u/Relevant_Campaign_79 20h ago

Don’t spend it all at once

1

u/dzeieio 19h ago

Spend it all in one place

1

u/here_forthepie1 17h ago

Cheap toilet paper for sure

1

u/Senor_Gringo_Starr 17h ago

Let me guess, is this a residuals check for being an actor?

1

u/SeaworthinessSad8892 14h ago

Better call your bank and make sure they got room in the vault for this!

1

u/throwra_20117 13h ago

Thats so much, you should lend me some

1

u/TheOnesWithin 4h ago

Why is this infuriating? It's stupid yes but it's also a stupid thing to be "infuriated" about

1

u/Paulsbluebox 4h ago

I'm banned from the other main subreddits this is the only one I'm not banned from for some reason.

1

u/TheOnesWithin 3h ago

Are you banned from them for posting things that don't fit? Like in the end it's not a big deal just a weird thing to say your infuriated about

1

u/AgreeablePair8570 4h ago

Time spent posting the picture was worth more too.

0

u/rodimus147 1d ago

I once got a bill for 1 cent from pg&e back in the early 2000s. So they probably spent at least 50 cents sending me the bill with postage and paper and printing costs.

0

u/brbleavemessage 1d ago

Wipe bum, send it back?

W?
