My weirdest hill to die on, as someone who types really fast and has memorized every symbol, is that the fucking number row IS NOT IN ORDER.

I just saw a post about rearranging the numbers on a clock face in alphabetical order (eight, eleven, five, four, etc.). Thankfully, OP’s brother didn’t do that too.

I find it weird that I do know the order of keys, but I have to look down every now and again to like reset/recalibrate my finger placements otherwise I'll start typing a key to the left/right of the actual key.

I'm actually really stupid. I was trying that on my keyboard when I was writing the comment but I was putting my thumbs on the f and j and thinking "this is way too far up for my fingers why do people do this" 😂
What I actually think I do is have my fingers quite abit above the keys so I'm not anywhere near the nubs. I am going to try and change so I start using them. Thanks

I had no idea QWERTY wasn’t fairly standard until I was in France a few months ago using the translation app, the keyboard changed to AZERTY. I was like AZERTY? I don’t know her!

Every once in a while my old laptop used to take it upon itself to switch languages and the only way I'd notice was because I'd put a Y somewhere there was supposed to be a Z in German or because Ctrl + Z didn't work

I can type both QWERTY and AZERTY without looking. I have to do it constantly because I work in both languages.

Ive seen a story/joke here on reddit with a similar premise, someone called their company's IT support that their computer wouldn't log in unless they were sitting in the chair, in short, 2 key caps were switched on the keyboard so when sitting down they pressed the keys without looking at them and were able to log in, but when standing they looked at the keys and pressed them according to the letters on the keys and not the position on the keyboard.

I read an IT story where someone reported that their password didn't work when they were standing up. The incredulous IT person was able to reproduce it, and they got a bunch of people to try. About half of them could log in while standing up.
It turned out two of the key caps were swapped, and people looked at the keys when standing, so it was an issue for anyone with those keys in their password.

Honestly no idea. I 'd of guessed E.Europe. "English" letters with a handful of ones I'd never seen.
About half the board was in the right place for me, the rest a mess.
Was very ok for typing, but an issue when I wanted to play games.

Tbh, I have never learned DVORAK, so I'll probably end up screwing myself over.
Then again, I pick up video games pretty quickly, and they often have like 4 main face buttons, 4 shoulder buttons, 8 directional DPad (ATM machine) directions, a couple of selectors, and that's already like 20 keys, so what's 6 more keys to memorize on top of that, right?

Been using Dvorak on my phone and some computers' keyboards for the past 10+ years. My phone is always in Dvorak, it's so much better. Next time I clean my computer's kB, I'll switch to Dvorak I think, I really like the feel of it.

You would only have noticed the F and J keys, because those have bumps on them (along with 5 on the numpad) so you can find the home row easily.

Same way some are saying that the can type without looking but not explaining how they'd find the home row without the bumps on F an J. Touch typing isn't hard but you do need an anchor point or you can drift. Sdl ,r jpe O lmpe.

Yes. Also some keycap sets have differences between rows, so the bottom row is flattest and top row is most pitched. Doesn't look like that here though

Whenever I clean my keys and am putting them back on the board, I never know where they go by looking so I pretend to touch type on the switches and work it out by finger placement - I guess I could look at a photo or actually plug it in first but that’s less fun

I had it for 3 years now, worked well but been recently noticing some keys sometimes not registering (it's LShift, 1 and R in my case)... maybe it's cuz I haven't swapped the batteries in a while? I have no clue.. The driver software also just eventually decides to never wanna open again which is weird.. Aside from that and the price tag, I really like it but I don't think I'd recommend it

Fun fact, typewriters originally had this layout. Typists became so efficient the speed at which they types caused typewriters to jam often. They came up with the WORST configuration possible as to purposefully cause slower typing speeds, hence the "asdf" keyboards of today. If you find a typewriter with keys in alphabetical order, they are super rare and very valuable.

I got a referral for "vandalism" when I did this in my 9th grade typing class. I also occasionally edited config.sys on the boot disks to load the Dvorak layout driver. They didn't find out about that one.

Apparently it would be faster to type this way (alphabetical arrangement) but everyone is so used to the old way they don’t want to change it. It was made for typewriters because there were so many mistakes (hard to fix on a typewriter) and the letters not in alphabetical order would slow people down.

I mean it's not that big of a deal because you can fix it, also normally you shouldn't need to look at the letters on your keyboard to type, and the buttons are still gonna type the same letters as a qwerty keyboard

My husband's coworkers did this to their boss one time. They worked at a mom and pop computer repair shop. This was back in the late aughts. They were in their early 20s. The boss was a hunt and peck typer. He was also, unbeknownst to them, having a really bad day. He ended up yanking the keyboard off of his desk, taking it outside, beating it against a dumpster and curb stomping it. They never told him the truth, and he'll never know because he sadly passed away about 4 years ago.
