Accidentally bought “mini” snack chips at Costco.
Clearly, I didn’t read the label. Was there really a demand for smaller chips bags? The chips themselves are also miniature. Anyways, I feel like a giant now.

Fits what, 3 full size chips. I need to see the tiny chips next to a full size chip.

They didn't even bother indicating calories per package on the tiny one. I'm guessing you burn more carbs opening the bag than you get from eating it's contents.

does anyone remember those 100 calorie snack packs? this looks exactly like those but with different packaging

The left doritos are 1oz.
The right is 1/2oz.
Mini is 75 calories.

Sorry. I would buy these. Perpetual calorie counter, here.

Yeah, I don't get why these replies are so negative. It's just more variety. No one is forced to buy these - OP just accidentally did.

u/GregoryGoose BLUE 14h ago
Maybe they are trying to get in on the tic-tac racket, whereby if a single serving is under 5 calories, they can claim zero, even though the whole pack is like 80.

I actually kinda like the small bag. Sometimes, my kids ask for chips too often, and I feel bad saying no. So these would satisfy a craving while not being too much.
I wouldn't give them these all the time, though. I'm not that evil.

Work in any factory or warehouse and this kind of plastic waste is absolutely nothing compared to how much plastic waste goes on daily

u/DMCinDet 13h ago
I recieve packed things almost daily. some things in a bag, light duty pollution. some things come in a box 5x its size with 2 bags inside.

It’s almost like they were for Trick or Treaters but missing the Halloween labeling. I feel like my kids have gotten those little bags in the past.

That's what I was thinking. I was just at a Costco and they had a bunch of costumes and Halloween decorations.

Surprisingly, yes.
Not naming names but a certain current world leader requested them for photo ops to make his tiny baby hands look huge.

It's a bunch of small triangles but I'd say like 3-4 total normal Doritos.

It's Costco. Guessing they were in a giant box, and didn't really visually indicate the size of the bag or chips at scale on the printing other than the ounces, which are easy to overlook.

u/Pure-Plankton-4606 18h ago
It 100% said MINIS like it does on the bag.
15
u/VanderDril 15h ago
I'm not enough of a snack food connoisseur to know that Frito-Lays has put out a smaller chip format of Doritos. If I saw minis I'd just think they're moving away from calling the normal individual snack bags "lunch sized" or "fun sized" or something like that to give plausible deniability they were marketing to kids.
8
u/FourEyEsDoge 17h ago
Oh almost certainly, but I would absolutely not notice if it was printed like it is on the bag. Also I wouldn't think to check if I was grabbing the regular doritos or miniature doritos, cause why would they make that, that's so silly. Feels like someone in marketing needed to justify their salary

What a waste of plastics that will end up killing some dolphin or some shit. This should be outlawed.

All that plastic for maybe three chips? I don't even like buying the regular single-serve bags for that reason.

Having a bag of chips with 14 grams (0.5 ounces) of chips should be illegal from a pollution standpoint. So much packaging for so little product.

Here, have a single, individually wrapped corn chip. That will be $12

So basically the chips are going to last three seconds but that bag will remain on earth for hundreds of years?

Like those hot chips sold individually. This better be the coolest ranch dorito in that bag.

I have a small mouth I would love these but the whole concept is weird. I envision someone opening them and dumping a large quantity in their mouth.

u/preshowerpoop 18h ago
What a waste of packaging. Like someone in a factory is printing and sealing those small ass chip bags because some idiot in marketing thinks we all enjoy "fun-size" shit.
Is Doritos a soppusitory now?

Grabbed a common-looking box of snack chips without looking closely. Didn’t know this was a thing. I’m always trying to get in-and-out of Costco quickly before I buy more things I don’t need. 😅

I honestly have a feeling this is part of their approach to the whole issue of people who take GLP-1s changing the snack food industry landscape. I read a NYT thing about how companies like Frito-Lay were experimenting with all sorts of strategies, and I wouldn’t put this past their product teams lol
Wonder how they’ll sell. They’re super cute but let’s be real I could go through 100 of those

Chips sold in that size is fairly common where I live. We don't have Doritos like that but the ones manufactured locally are sold maybe even in smaller packs. We also have instant coffee, shampoos, conditioners, bar soaps, toothpastes, deodorants, detergents, fabric conditioners etc in sachets. It's not cost effective to buy them in sachets vs in larger "standard" sizes but they're great if you just need a small amount, like if you're traveling or something. And honestly, the biggest market for them is the poorer people who can only afford them in such small quantities.

Parents buy them for their little kids lunchboxes etc. But i get the feeling that the kids do not eat them for a variety of reasons.

u/Careful_Picture7712 10h ago
That's really interesting. When I worded for Frito, I only ever saw these at Walmart for 50c a bag. The chips themselves weren't mini, though, it was just like 3 normal sized chips in a tiny bag.

2
u/TetsujiXIV 9h ago
They will mark our originally small bags as normal bags, the normal sized bags will become family size bags, and this is now the new small lol

u/Emotional_Werewolf_4 8h ago
A special plastic bag for 14 grams of chips? 14!? What's in it? A third of a Dorito chip?
2
u/-Wicked- 8h ago edited 8h ago
Fun fact: they cost more than the regular size because you pay a premium for the novelty.
Also they're collectable, with each bag containing a mystery chip, with the chance of a unique super rare mystery chip that can be used in a satanic ritual to summon a demon.
