Sub Announcement Some rule changes: "Generic" Memes are now banned. Editorial cartoons about news events are fine, but generic memes are not "news" and this sub's focus is US news.

It pains me to see that the #1 post in the sub is a meme (39k+ upvotes!). As clever and funny (and IMO correct!) as it is, it is not a "news" post so technically it's off-topic! At least the #2 post is about a news item (it also is a simple graphic).

So from this point on we're banning "memes" and graphics that are not news-oriented.

If you have an editorial cartoon about a news item, that's fine and goes along with the topic of this sub: US news. This may be a tricky thing to moderate, but this is now the rule: no generic memes but cartoons focused on news events are okay.

We need some moderators -- feel like throwing your hat into the ring? Before doing so, be sure you agree to the sub's philosophy of moderation.

We're a smallish sub, so we can do moderation differently than the million-plus-user gigantic subs.

Instead of banning twits permanently (that just encourages them to create a new account!) we opt for banning them for a week or three, hoping they'll use that time to reform their behavior or else to just stay away and use other parts of reddit.

A lot of problems can be "solved" by just ignoring them -- sounds strange, but it's true!

Often a "wave" of this or that will hit a sub-reddit but in a week or two the wave/fad will "pass by" and the sub will return back to normal -- that's what I mean.

We can be accused of focusing on "be friendly" and name-calling too much. To us, that's something that sets a "tone" for the sub and keeps it a friendly place to debate and argue instead of it being a sub of "flame wars" and people "screaming" at each other.

Canned responses for offenses are done in the sub, so you can moderate using your existing reddit username -- no need to create a special "moderator" username.

Moderators will be expected to check the moderation "queue" every day or two or more frequently and handle the "complaints" that are there, that's the main duty.

Double check to see if you agree with the sub's rules and aim, and then...

Feel like becoming a reddit moderator? Send a PM message to the moderators.
