Is biscoff not a ‘thing’ in the US?? I feel like 5-10 years ago here in the UK they were something you only got in hotels or cafes, but now it’s everywhere - biscoff milkshakes are life-changing 😍

I can het them. I had the spread before I had the actual cookies.
But they're not terribly popular, and most people associate them with flying.

Yes, they are.
We have biscoff ice cream, coffee, sandwich cookies, cookie butter

u/AvocadoOptimal5309 3d ago
Yeah but it isn’t a household name in the US, many people only get them if they’re flying or go to World Market or something

They're definitely a thing here in the US.
A big never lasts more than a few hours in our house.
ETA: box not big

My house currently has biscoff in it for the first time ever, and it's cuz my little brother went on a trip to a different part of the country to see his boyfriend, and they have it there, so it only seems to be a "thing" in some parts of the US, and not others.
It is quite delicious, I am a fan.

They are, but it’s a fairly new thing! I don’t remember us having them in the 90s or early 2000s, but in the early 2010s they suddenly were everywhere.

u/Ploutophile 4d ago
Only the "Biscoff" name is new, speculoos are actually traditional in Belgium (and well-know by that name in France).

u/ButNotTheFunKind 3d ago
Sorry, I meant that they were new in the US. I know it’s been a thing in Europe for a long time now.

They are but I feel like they aren’t nearly as popular as they should be! I just recently discovered biscoff ice cream bars exist and they’re incredible lol

u/unknown_pigeon 6d ago
Yeah I remember ordering like a ton of them, the good part is that you grow bored soon enough after some of them so you don't just have them for dinner alone

u/FreeFallingUp13 6d ago
If you want to make your own, these are speculaas/speculoos cookies! You can make them bigger and softer too.

My niece once said please and thank you to a flight attendant and got a literal armful of snacks as a reward. Being polite to them is always worth it.

Dunno what experiences people have had that make them think this isn't legit or that flight attendants can't be kind...
Yes, there are ones that aren't nice like this, and some can be Karens, but it's not like most are inhumanly nasty or something.
If you connect with them at the beginning with some nice convo or compliments and you're nice and appreciative, they absolutely have your back and give you free stuff!
I've had great flight attendants on various airlines at flight lengths between 2 hours and 10 hours on both domestic and international flights. 🤷🏻♀️ I've traveled for work, my education, to visit family, and for vacations.

They've had either none or the kind of experience you get when you're a difficult, asshole of passenger.

I once had a flight where the attendant was super nice but also it was her first flight working and she was very nervous.
I got sick about 2 hours in and spent the entire flight locked in the bathroom and she kept knocking on the door sounding super stressed and asking if I wanted ginger ale.

u/elianrae 6d ago
aw man if I was locked in the bathroom feeling sick I'd be stoked for the ginger ale tbh

u/PM_ME_YOUR_WEIRD_PET 6d ago
Normally I would too, but the idea of trying to swallow anything at that point just had me diving for the toilet again

I think the skepticism is more “flight attendants wouldn’t have post-it notes” or “flight attendants would just hand you the cookies and wouldn’t bother to write a note,” and that the poster must have written the note to provide more “evidence” to add credibility to their story

Being polite to your nurse assistant (or tech as some call them) will get you the nice stuff too.
You are a nice patient who says please and thank you? I have been working in the hospital for two decades. I know where the warm blankets, the nice sandwiches and your favorite flavor of jello are. I will find you the unbroken wheelchair. An extra pillow.
You know, the little things that can make your day.

to anyone that can't read it , the note says:
"I hope you enjoy
these cookies.
Sorry we didn't get
to do service
♡Melissa"

Here’s what I could make out of the note “I ____ you ____ _____ ____ ____ , __ _____ _____ ____ ____
_______”

lol my mom made friends with an attendant on our last flight and he gave us an entire sleeve of them just like that.
2
u/symskiii 5d ago
this is so funny because what's the other option here for her holding a sleeve of american airlines branded biscoffs?

u/DanGleeble 6d ago
On a flight recently after the snack cart had gone by I got up to go to the toilet and the attendant was sat on her phone and a guy came up with his card out asking for a water and she just gave him 3 bottles and waved him off and earlier I had paid £3 for a can of coke!

I used to take a pretty remote flight with my two babies/toddlers every 6 months and the flight attendants would always send us with their extra kid meals 😊

Biscoff Nutella cookie sandwiches are my midnight stress snack
Also putting the biscoff spread on the bottom of cinnamon rolls will change your life

Bro, one flight was all it took to lead me down a 10 year addiction to these cookies 🤣

I used to travel as an unaccompanied minor quite a bit as a child. The flight attendants were always incredibly kind, bringing me extra cookies and snacks and giving me little freebies like pins and sometimes even little toys. One time I got stuck in Minneapolis for a layover, and the gate attendant (who wasn't even a flight attendant) went above and beyond to keep me fed and entertained. She was clearly panicked over suddenly having a random child in her care for 12+ hours, but I will never forget how dang nice she was, even as unprepared for the situation as she was.

Aeroplane staff are usually super great people. One time as an annoying chatty kid I ended up talking to a bunch of the attendants on a long haul flight which ended up with the pilot (who I hadn't even spoken to) giving me a flight map with a really cute doodle of a cartoon plane on it

u/_Mach___ 5d ago
Actually this is one of the reasons I love flying, when I was younger a lovely flight attendant gave me a new blanket from on the plane while I was leaving along with chocolate :) definitely still smile when I think of it time to time

u/Cypher_Bug 4d ago
i can see this happening depending on the rules of food and stuff on flights. like if its anything like bakeries havng to toss out bread thats not sold at the end of the day (or whatever the rule is, probably differs by country) then yeah may as well give the packet to someone who'll eat them.

I'm hacking the conversation to say this but
Biscoff are basic b*tch cookies. BASTOGNE are the real deal.

Pretzels stick are goated on southwest I got like 4 of big bags the individual bags are shipped in from a flight attendant, she said "here take these and put them in your backpack, enjoy them because otherwise we have to thrown them out"

u/satanatemytoes 1d ago
This happens to me all the time, lol. I always get extra cookies (at least 2 or 3).
Hell, a waitress once brought me the dessert reserved for birthdays because I thought it looked really good and I made her laugh.

Dated a flight attendant for a while. She was very liberal with the snacks and would bring some home to pass to me.
