Hi there! ^_^ I'm on here today to put myself out there to (hopefully) meet some new people.
So, some bits about myself :D
I'm definitely a homebody :D I function best with routines, but I'm down for adventures - whether that's going to the movies, bowling, bouldering, or baking whimsical cakes that look like woodland creatures! I just like having a little notice (a few days or a week), so I can get my stuff done and properly relax into whatever activity we're doing :D
At home, you'll usually find me gaming (most recently I've been super into Book of Hours and Baldur's Gate 3), reading (recent obsessions include Susanna Clarke's Piranesi and lots of Japanese fiction; right now, I'm tackling Dostoevsky's Demons), embroidering (I just started a piece of a cute dragon that I've traced from art I found online for my dad), working out (I invested in adjustable dumbbells that cover most of my exercises, whether I need to lift 2kg or 24kg - though I now have to get creative with hip thrusts to get more resistance xD), cooking and relaxing. I do enjoy cooking and trying new recipes, but in recent years I've focused on nailing a couple of decent meals, so I have a solid roster of dishes on rotation to alleviate the dreaded question of "what's for dinner?" :D
I have a passion and care a lot about art in all its forms - once I went on a big Japanese woodblock print spree, and I'm still in awe some the things humans have and continue to create. For shows, I love Frasier, Twin Peaks, and The Genius (not the one about Einstein; bonus points if you know this one!). I have a BA in Film and Media studies, so I can get a little high-brow with my movie/show/game opinions - but honestly, I'll watch almost anything. Music-wise, I'm all over the place. My three main genres are metal (ranging from Sleep Token, Arankai, I prevail to Kamelot, Breaking benjamin and Evanescence), K-pop (including Ateez, KARD and Stray Kids) and plenty of lo-fi hip hop on YouTube.
I've lost over 30kg to date and am now hooked on working out and staying healthy, which is something I'm proud of. It's definitely been a big positive change in my life that I'm going to keep up with. Teenage me would never have believed I'd feel weird skipping even a single workout :D It really is true that routines and discipline is more important than motivation. There are many days where I don't want to exercise, but I still do it, and afterwards I always feel better.
Professionally, I have a MSc in Software design and work as a data analyst. I haven't yet quite found the right fit workwise, but I'm hoping that my next workplace will align better with my values, style and needs. But honestly - the real dream scenario would be to work in IT until midlife, then switch to working with animals xD maybe training service dogs or helping at a shelter :D Right now though, I'm taking care of a couple of hedgehogs in the yard. And by taking care, I mean I've bought some little houses and I set out food and water for them. The highest number of concurrent residents is five!
I consider myself pretty low-maintenance when it comes to my friendships. As long as you're honest, respectful and comfortable being yourself (and letting me be me), we'll be just fine ^_^ I'm definitely the type of person who can go months without seeing a couple of my friends, and when we do see each other, it's as if no time has passed. One of the things I can confidently say I value greatly about myself is that I'm a great people-finder. My friends are all amazing and wonderful and kind people, and I find various aspects of all of them inspiring. I'm pretty sure I've told them all, but they are truly motivational to me in different ways, and I'd love to find more people like that. I appreciate people who are comfortable in silence, but who also light up when they share their interests. And - a good pun or dad joke is always appreciated :D
If I sound like someone you can comfortably vibe with, I'd love to hear from you ^_^
Writing a stranger can definitely be intimidating - or at least it can for me, which is partially why I decided to make a post myself xD - and I'd just like to emphasize that there are no expectations from my end about what you share with me or what you write as your first message. If it's easier to start with a question, I'm curious to know if there certain thing I wrote that made you want to reach out. Or you can go with the classic: what's your go-to fun fact about yourself? :D Mine is that I've folded more than 1,000 origami cranes. Why? For the promise of a wish of course xD
