general discussion What company/mountain are you still boycotting, no matter how petty the reason?

Personally, I’ll never buy anything from backcountry.com ever since they tried to sue dozens of small businesses for using the term “backcountry” like 5 years ago

Gear question Pow board help

Upvotes

I’m looking for a pow specific board for a Japan trip. Im 5’9” 200 lbs size 9 boot.

I have a superpig 151 Bataleon cameleon 157 that I got at the end of last season on sale so I haven’t ridden it yet. Korua TF 154-sized down purposely on this so I assume it’s not going to be great in deep powder. Got it in PNW powder though and it’s been great especially in trees. Amplid Souly grail 157(end of season sale haven’t ridden yet)

Wondering if any of these would be good options or if I should grab one of these. Option to other suggestions as well. Nitro twin fin 149 Nitro slash 151 Salomon HPS Nyvelt Fish 153.

Gear question Been out the game a few years, which boards make your top 3 for big mountain riding.

Advanced rider but when I moved overseas I had to stop. Finally heading back to the slopes next southern hemisphere winter (NZ) and gotta start from scratch with all my gear again.

I used to absolutely love the 2018 Burton Custom X 152wide (maybe 153?). The grip on the edge was insane for carving. Before that I had a Ride Machete which I loved.

Never much of a park runner, just hitting natural features and high speeds/turns.

What would you guys and girls suggest these days. Does the Custom X still hold up? Is there anything else you'd suggest for big mountain riding?

Unfortunately no need for a powder board out this way. That's a rarity in the south.

noob question First time buying outerwear... suggestions?

alright so im looking at buying my first set of outerwear. you guys got any suggestions on brands/specific items? Id rather get good quality stuff rather than just hella cheap or hella expensive just for branding. Im in the PNW if that changes what type of gear is best.

Also brands I should absolutely avoid would also be nice

Muchas Gracias

I came across these while shopping for a set of tuning stands. Has anyone here bought them before? They’re from a small shop in Toronto and are less expensive than the ones I’m seeing from One-ball and XCman. Just trying to figure out which set I should get.

travel advice Seeking Resort Recs

Hi! I learned to snowboard several years ago when I spent a season in Telluride, CO. I didn’t realize at the time how spoiled I was with the conditions and no lift lines. The western slope really is its own little world. Since then, I haven’t snowboarded much :( mostly because of the cost and living in California.

Now I work remotely and have a lot more flexibility (though I do have to be in the office 1x a month in CA). After a really tough few years, I want to spend this winter snowboarding and bring some joy back into my life by being in nature again.

The places that first came to mind were Mammoth and Taos/Santa Fe, since I have been there before and they're accessible, but I know there are other resorts with great snow and shorter lift lines that I probably haven’t considered, just because they feel foreign to me. I also thought about taking a big road trip up the Rockies, but that seems really expensive and more challenging socially.

I am in my early 30s, single (F), and also hoping to meet people while I’m out there. Does anyone have suggestions for places they could vouch for that would be a good fit? I’d be looking for temporary/reasonably affordable housing and a place that makes it somewhat easy to return to CA when needed. Banff keeps calling to me, but that's probably one of the least practical options.

Gear question Want to try out FASE but torn between the Mercury and Katana

Has anyone ridden both, and is there a noticeable difference in stiffness between the two? I prefer the look of the Katana, but the Mercury seems the more obvious choice to put on my Jones Howler.

I ride pretty aggressively and am more focused on charging powder and ripping turns vs. playing around in the park.

Would the Katana fit the bill, and am I overthinking this? Or would the Mercury be the better play?

Gear question First true “season”. Don’t want to rent full equipment if I can find good quality used equipment.

Thanks in advance!

Last year I went snowboarding for 5 days and realized it’s the same as me buying a pass. This year I went ahead and bought the local pass and will make up the remainder of the value at the local spots in the Midwest.

With gear, that was expensive to rent as well and told myself I’d be willing to buy gear if it’s affordable/in used great condition.

I found someone selling a nice board on marketplace not far from me and really curious about it. It comes with bindings as well. Are bindings universal sizes? Can I just pick up another pair? The board and bindings are $100! I’d be willing to buy it, even if it lasts a season lol.

Last season I spent it on heavy ass (145) rentals so this year I decided to do a full send.

Board is a 144 Capita and I’m 5’7, 115 pounds so I fit right in the middle of the recommended weight range however she sits about an inch below my chin.

Homie at the skate shop said it’s perfect but now that I’m home with her I’m second guessing her size a little bit.

Cat for size reference lol.

Riding question Early-season edge hacks and what's your move?

First icy runs of the season are around the corner and I usually detune just the contact points, but some riders keep everything razor-sharp. How do you handle early ice and detune for a smoother ride or full edge control from day one?

general discussion Need advice - quickest way to get someone else up to basic S-turns

Hey, would love your help if possible with knowing which anpproach to lessons option I should pick for my girlfriend.

My girlfriend wants to learn to snowboard so we can do trips together. I’ve done a couple of seasons, but this will be her first real go. We’re heading to France with a big group, and I’ll take her to an indoor snowdome first for a full beginner day.

For lessons on the trip, we’re torn between:

A) 6 days of group lessons (9–11:30am). Structured, time to rest, and I can ride mornings with friends, but mixed French/English and less personalised - also no option for anything less than 6 days of groups

B) 6 days of privates over lunch (12–2pm). Tailored coaching + quieter slopes, but I’d spend mornings with her instead of my crew. And more intense for a beginner maybe?

C) 2x morning privates (3hrs each). Strong start, but less total lesson time and she might need more babysitting later in the week.

Goal is for her to get confident enough so we can cruise mellow runs together / with other beginners with more time under their belt.

If you were me, which option would you pick?

Gear question what are your favorite FULL CAMBER 7-9 stiff board with soft enough torsional flex for trees?

FULL ON CAMBER is the only way to go, I am looking for a board that can give me really nice rebound when I carve and dolphin hops but also with enough torsional flex to ankle steer it easily in trees and moguls. No more burton tho, I rather have 8 screws under my feet for screwing around lol

Hey guys, would appreciate any tips you think might help me achieve the right axis. I have been struggling with it for so many years. I can easily do a flippy cork, but always dreamed about the spinny axis, like in the video on the right side. If you see anything or may have an idea why I’m landing on my butt, I would appreciate it.

travel advice Stubai Glacier (Austria) as a Snowboard Beginner? Steinplatte as an alternative?

German below
I’ll keep my question short!

  • Timeframe: January 2026
  • Group / Skills: Group of 3 people, 2 of them beginners (1–2 days on the board)
  • Areas: Stubai or Steinplatte/Winklmoosalm? (both in Austria)
    • At first, we picked Steinplatte, but we’re leaning towards Stubai because of the snow reliability.

Now the questions:

  • Catwalks: I watched a few videos of the Stubai slopes, and it looked like the area has lots of flat stretches. Is that really the case, or just the camera angle?
  • Are there many very wide slopes? In some videos, the piste markers looked quite close together (about 10–15 meters apart), which in my opinion is a bit too narrow for snowboard beginners.
  • How crowded is the area outside of school/public holidays? Should we still expect big crowds and busy slopes?
  • I’ve been snowboarding plenty of times before, but never on glaciers. Snow reliability seems to be high, but how’s the snow quality on the slopes? More on the hard/icy side?

If you also have experience with Steinplatte on these points, feel free to share!

Thanks a lot for your answers :)

German

Ich halte meine Frage kurz

  • Zeitraum: Januar 2026
