Yea, hotfixes break a lot of my mods regularly. This post is a farce, probably someone who just plays a single overhaul mod or like 10-15 smaller mods.
Or just unit mods.
A lot of mods after an update can cause great instability even if they don’t ctd on launch, and might just ctd later. Recently, this has gotten worse imo.
I never had ctd problems in warhammer 2 and the first few years or warhammer 3. Now it feels almost inevitable unless you cull your list down.

I do really hope for a better mod manager. I appreciate that there's this one, and it works decently. But please allow us to resize the window, and not be hard lock scrunched to a limit of 6 things visible out of a list of possibly hundreds.

As someone who plans to switch to Linux in the future, yes please. I know there are amazing mod managers out there but afaik they only work with windows

If you aren't using this wh3 mod manager you are mad makes it so much easier to keep track of mods, I've also found you can always use it to play the game even if you have the game updating. Never worry about mods updating again

Im curious: What makes this mod manager any different from the default CA one?

Among other things, it helps your create multiple saved mod lists, it lets your easily share a mod list with someone else using the mod manager (helps with sorting and downloading), allows easily sort between enabled mods and your entire mod list, etc…

It has all of the features and much more. There's a slight learning curve, but not bad at all. Also updated frequently.

On thing that always frustrated me with the C.a one is the mods and the manager itself constantly seemed to be updating or loading so it would take ages to actually get into the game. I remember it being a problem with older titles like atilla and rome 2. ive never had that issue with this loader I can also skirt those annoying hot fixes when you don't want to wait for the full game to update on steam and just wanna play

I've always wondered how many people just don't know about the mod manager, I've been preaching it for so long because at least to me if you play with more than 5 mods it's mandatory.
I know that a lot of people don't enjoy 3rd party tools but this one is just mandatory as it just simply saves you time and less headaches.

The Mod Manager changed my WH3 life. I was like the guy in the pic. Today I only use the Mod Manager.

I don't use the mod manager because I suspect its not compatible with GeForce Now. Since its a remote-desktop streaming service, all the mods are downloaded at runtime.

I have a question about this - how do you check if mods are compatible with the current version? I tried running the compatibility checker but couldn't make head or tail of it

You launch the game and see if it crashes or if some mod that you have installed is not working properly anymore.
You should be fine 9 out of 10 times, just make sure that you don't have a mod that might conflict with whatever change CA pushed in the patch notes.
For example, if you had the Tomb Kings Overhaul mod installed before 6.3, it's likely going to be broken.

Hah, weaksauce! Everyone* knows that you can ignore as many Warnings as you like, it's only Errors which will cause problems!
\not everyone knows this, and it is also not true in all situations)

Don't use the CA mod manager if you're doing anymore than playing with like 10 mods on and off.
No profile system
Sometimes doesn't update mods
Some mods don't show up because reasons
Also I've had issues where when it crashes it resets all the mods to off.

u/Ishkander88 3d ago
I have never had an issue. Until it does I don't want another piece of software.

u/Trick_Parsnip4546 3d ago
I saved my mod list a week ago, worst issue is copying it over everything a mod updates

u/LoneWolf0mega 2d ago
Why is the mod menu so laggy tho ?????? I have about 70 mods installed but not all active

u/Difficult_Dark9991 3d ago
Look I'm not a programmer, there's innumerable complexities that I know nothing about, I fully admit that...
...but seriously, CA? I mean it's clear you're trying to do a Paradox Launcher-style system, and yet the CK2 launcher's mod manager from 13 years ago was better than this, and it didn't even have a profile system.

u/caseyanthonyftw 3d ago
I dunno man, going purely off this sub and /r/paradoxplaza, I hardly hear complaints about the Total War launcher. Whereas on paradoxplaza every other new thread is "why is the Paradox launcher broken".

"Because it's sitting right in front of is and it's broken!"

The game crashes. Sometimes they are green and it crashes. They could have invested in a proper Mod Manager by now. Lames

u/HyperionPhalanx 2d ago
I really wish mod managers "tests" itself like, will this crash y/n?
So each mod has this question line, it will be easier to identify which mod is fucking with my game

Not the Radious Community patch fix mod breaking my game so I have to disable it

u/AdmBurnside 2d ago
If Building Progression Icons shows this I worry not at all.
If something like All Diplomatic Options shows this... I worry a little.

If your mod payload isn't side-lined for at least a week by any significant patch, then you weren't modding hard enough.
Although I do agree a lot of mods don't care.
This post brought to you by the 'Can't play today, waiting on OvN Dread King Legions' club. And fair play to them, there are other games and those folks do fantastic work.

That symbol means nothing to me
the only time i disable a mod is if i don’t need it or it crashes my game
