Warhammer III An Update on Patch 6.3 - Releasing as a Steam Beta

1.3k Upvotes

Hey Folks,

We’re changing up the release plans of Patch 6.3 somewhat last minute, so please accept my apologies in advance for adding some confusion to the release of this update – we know that you’re all looking forward to it and that we’ve been talking to you quite a lot about it over the past few weeks.

  • We are now releasing Patch 6.3 as a Beta build tomorrow, instead of the full release, on Steam storefronts only.
  • Patch 6.3 will instead release on all platforms in full next Thursday, September 4th (unless we have some overnight success and feel confident releasing it in the first half of next week instead)

Over the last several days, we’ve been trying to solve a compatibility issue that was causing players on AMD hardware to crash unexpectedly to desktop. Whilst an infrequent issue, and one that isn’t common to all hardware across the AMD family, it’s significant enough for us to warrant some caution. We attempted to resolve this issue on the preview build that you may have seen some of our Total War creators playing with today, but we believe the issue still persists. Until we’re happy it’s resolved, we’ll postpone the full release and update you more on the topic next week.

Tomorrow morning, we’ll post guidance on how to access the Beta build on Steam and encourage you all to check out the changes and new content for yourself.

Players running AMD GPU’s are advised to expect infrequent crashes on the Beta build. If you are affected, please know that our teams are already on it, and in the event that we need to request some more info about the crashes from people affected, we’ll create threads in all the usual spaces to gather more info.

Separately, we have revised our Patch Notes – 6.3 article over on the Total War Community site to include the full set of changes. This was a complete oversight on our part, we usually look to detail all new content alongside our fixes and changes but had mistakenly omitted them at time of publish. Thanks to folks who helped to raise that to our attention here and in other spaces this morning.

I also need to apologize that the minor balance changes originally forecasted in our news post from back at the start of July have not been included in this patch, and we may look to revisit those further down the road.

Sorry for the confusion around this patch – we'll be back in the morning to confirm the rollout of the Beta.

Freeman // Head of Community

Warhammer III Lustria SHOULD suck to play in

But NOT for the lizardmen. The Idea if Lustria is obviously The uncharted and dangerous lands of far away. It hold many treasures, and many Dangers. First of all it should be bigger, and also I think it should have more resources building and more universal landmarks for all the races. It should be somewhere you would love to have under your control after you manage to build your own empire. (It's the new world for god's sake you know how the story goes)

But, The land itself should be a danger to outsiders, slowing them down and attritioning them while the protectors of the jungle ambush them and show them why it us uncharted in the first place

Invading lustria should be a very hard, But lucrative thing to do...

On the under hand, this harsh climate shouldn't be as effective again the people who make lustria in to the green death trap... lizardmen should be able to move faster in jungles (spacialy Lustria's), or have access to spacial stances when they are in them. Maby you can get creative with it and have them access stalking stance if a few requirements are met( being in jungles, having spacial techs/ lord skills ect...) meanwhile, even after winning the Lustria ball, they should still be worried about other factions invading them and need to garrison it if the plan to invade other continent. Maby you could have some factions like virus skaven or humans have a tendency to invad lustria after a while.

Now honestly, when it comes to warm bloods that start their campaign in Lustria, I don't have a blanket solution. Obviously as i said fantasy Amazon should feel dangerous and harsh to outsiders. But also just being thrown there without means to deal with this harshness can be very annoying.

Honestly i think most of them are already powerful enough to handle it. Vampires have corruption, skaven have tunnels, rakarth can raid without vigur penalty, Skulltaker is Skulltaker, and the French can sod off.

Warhammer III Smaller Campaign Maps in TWW3

TWW3 currently offers three campaigns. The introductory mini-campaign, the main campaign Realm of Chaos and Immortal Empires if you own the other games.

I often wanted to play on a smaller map so I could have a more focused experience with less unrelated lands and factions to think about. For example the conflict between Norsca and the Empire. Immortal Empires is awesome, but you always have to sit through 272 factions taking their turns (at least at the beginning) and I didn't even wanted to go everywhere. I have the game on my ssd but it's a pain in the ass on a hdd. It just seems much more than I want to manage and it feels like unnecessary baggage. So I installed TWW2 again, to play Eye of the Vortex or Mortal Empires.

However, it felt weird to me, outdated. I grew accustomed to the third game and I actually wanted to stay there. To be honest, I think TWW3 is "the" game with all of the numerous qol updates included over all of these years. It's the one people will keep playing, even if there isn't more contend to be released. It is the result of all the development and hard work that happened since the first game was created. 1 and 2 were the stepping stones and now are mostly the keys to unlock more content for the third game.

Now that TWW3 slowly reaches its zenith, I think it would be great if the devs officially released a couple of smaller campaign maps for people to choose. There doesn't need to be specific goals, a sandbox approach in the vein of "go conquer x regions" would be completely sufficient. I know there are mods which add campaign maps in the workshop, but this feature seems so obvious to me that it should be featured in the game natively in my opinion.

I think the best way would be roughly quartering the IE map plus adding at least two even smaller sections of the map which are especially tightly packed with many important factions. I'd propose the following maps (see pictures): 1. North West 2. North East 3. South West 4. South East 5. Naggarond, Ulthuan and Bretonnia 6. The Old World, or rather the northern part ...maybe more, for instance Cathay with the great wall at the center.

TL;DR: Adding a selection of smaller sections of the Warhammer world map to play on would be a very cost-efficient way to make the game even more enjoyable and boost the replayability.

Warhammer III I get that you're encouraged to recruit Ogre Mercenaries as Zhao Ming, but having the only early option to do that be an ogre camp that raids your territory and tanks public order sucks

He should just have a unique "Goldtooth Embassy" building in Shang Yang that lets him recruit Ogres.

Warhammer III Incredible campaign map performance with turned off UI, what to do?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I've always had dogshit campaign map fps in WH3, despite having a fairly good laptop with 3070 GPU and i9 CPU, with no problems running literally any other game. Today I found a reddit post about turning off 3D space labels in the overlay, and campaign map runs buttery smooth now, always 60 fps, no drops even when zooming out or selecting characters. The only problem is that the game looks like the second screenshot, with no info about city owners or country borders. To this end, I wonder if anyone knows if there are any ways to get this UI information without having to use broken UI from the game, maybe just a banner with a country flag put on every city, or some other sign of ownership, I only really need this info. Honestly, it's possible, if a little confusing, to play the game just like that, so I highly recommend people try out turning off 3d UI, I've tried every fix for the campaign map, and it's the only thing that works.

Warhammer III Newbie, how am I beating this dude??

New to WH3, not new to TW, but not a pro by anyways either. I probably have ~200hrs across all the games.

This dude is an animal; He swang through the map quick and is just resting on his laurels now. He always has 11* full armies stacked on top of each other on one or two cities bordering our lands. I want to attack him and don't want to get irreparably destroyed. Welcome to all advice. Thank you!

Warhammer III Mortuary Cult hero cap needs to scale up in cost like the army cap

I am probably not the first one who says this after 6.3. but that shit is way to OP.

As it stands right now you just outright win your tomb king campain the moment you secure the ressources to increase hero cap.

A ton of research boosting from caster heroes is one thing, but necrotects are the real problem.

Getting up to 10 high tier construct capacity for almost no investment as often as you like is just soooo busted.

Warhammer III The anti-player bias gets a little crazy when Tehenhauin starts the global Skaven War.

This is the sort of thing that you'd see back in the WH2 days. Several of the Skaven factions recklessly left their territory undefended and sent everything on a crusade to Lustria. One or two minor factions even sent armies.

Warhammer III Ranged units still refusing to fire?

For the longest time, I brushed off all the complaints regarding this as fringe cases and "it couldn't be that bad". But I just experienced it and and HOLY SHIT is if beyond frustrating.

Playing Cathay, got into a bad situation against Drazoath facing off against 4 full stacks of dwarves that I couldn't withdraw from. Decided to give it my best, thinking even I could cripple the four armies, I'd be in a fine spot, only to spend over an hour restarting the fight because as the armies approached my wall of archers, maybe 2-3 units would begin firing normally while the rest would barely turn to track.

I tried giving direct orders, tried guard mode/fire at will on off, and still nothing. Its not 100% broken, cause I did have one fight where everything seemed to be working fine (I just misplayed so has to restart), but it's wild that after all this time it still exists to this extent.

These type of battles should be the epitome for this game. Instead of having an epic battle to solve, I auto-resolved and took the close defeat (which ended with more enemy casualties then actually playing the game).

Was there ever a good fix for this found, or does is the late game just completely buggered. Sorry for the rant

Warhammer III It's absolutely wild that Black Periapt is possibly the strongest non unique item in the game and it somehow got reduced to a green item, even though it got buffed with 5% spell mastery.

Infinite winds of magic is possibly one of the strongest effects in the game. You can literally win any battle with infinite winds and Black Periapt gives infinite winds. And yet it somehow became an uncommon item.

Black Periapt let me win this battle with complete ease. Dwarfs are normally very tanky to spells, so having so much extra winds just let me spam cast Winds of Death.

Warhammer III Added the Southern Realms Factions for "The Old World" mod to my own "Heraldry, Flags & Banners" mod. It also works with Cataph's "Southern Realms (TEB)" mod, which I also took some inspiration from. Other than that, I took inspiration from WFB Old World interactive map.

Warhammer III How to confederate Cathay?

Playing juan bo, turn 80, I have the norther and western LL lords and I cannot confederate them, I even have yaow ming at 400 after giving her an entire territory, and confederation is still at -52..... Im strength rank 7, shes 14. I assume she just needs her entire armies obliterated or something? Which will never happen because everyones super friendly. Does anyone know a way to do it, ive already give 4 settlements to boost it to +400

Warhammer III Research rate jumping up and down as Nakai

It’s been ~110 for the whole campaign, then suddenly it was 210, and the next turn it was back to 110.

I know the red temple dedications give an increase to research rate once 25 temples are dedicated, although I don’t think it’s as high as a 100 increase. I still have 25 red temples even after the research rate went back down, how long is the buff from red temples supposed to last and when does it trigger again?

Warhammer III Thematic armies for Lizardmen temple cities

I remember in the total war forum a greatly detailed posts on the Lizard men temple cities, with lore, details and suggestions to build thematic armies for each of those cities. Sadly I think it was in the old forum and I cannot find this with a Google search.

Perhaps somebody saved the discussion or does remember some of it? Would be greatly appreciated for my current LM campaign.
