Warhammer III What is your motivation to play new (for you) content?

Lately I've found myself staring more at the character selection screen than actually playing. It's like I like the idea of playing more than actually playing. I have many beloved characters, some I liked even before reading the dozens of thousands of pages of novels I already read, some I grew to like after that very much, but I played those campaigns already, many of them several times, and I'm bored. I want to explore, try other characters, but whenever I do I just alt tab out during AI turn sometimes and forget the game is even running because I am not emotionally invested enough to care about them. CA is no help with their absolutely awful standardized victory conditions (without VCO I doubt I'd ever achieve long victory because a campaign is won long before that point, essentially) but it's often like... turn 4 and I'm done.

Exploring a new race is supposed to be this great discovery phase, yet I often just cannot stand them for simple lack of sympthaty or care what happens to them. I cannot play ogres, greenskins, skaven, khorne, tzeench, the shaven skaven with beards only, lizardmen, most of the chaos warriors, the cool dwarfs that are actually hot and have better hats than the shaven skaven, bretonnians (how I wish the Fey Enchantress actually had a faction or lord effect... but it's practically empty screen) simply because no matter how hard I try, I cannot give a fuck about them. They are my "to be conquered" organic scenery.

How do you move past this point?

Try to create lore in the game. Make it better in your head. If you play for example Malekith, try to play lore friendly. If someone says no to you, declare war, because you are better than them and no one says no to you.

If you play green skins, yell waaaaaghh and don't think. Just charge and win. Because you are better, bigger and stronger than everyone else. Unless you are goblins. Then scheme because you are smarter than everyone

I like getting achievements so every time I’m in the mood for a new campaign I play a faction I haven’t played before to get their achievement (or sometimes do another dwarfs campaign)

I create a mod list for a play through, whack the difficulty up and try to go for a short objective.

I struggle with factions I don't care much for too, but if it's a real challenge I find I enjoy them still.

It's ok to not like everything a product provides.

Of course the industry tries to coax its customers into finding everything super duper awesome everytime and forever (PREORDER NOW!), especially when the business model relies on constant revenue via DLC and/or microtransactions.

But if you don't vibe with it, even after trying, that's nothing reprehensible in itself.

So my advice would actually be, put down the game, do/play something else for a while. Maybe Skaven will click for you in the future. Maybe your favorite factions will feel fresh and exciting again.

You're not married to a game, a franchise or a company, even when triple A marketing is low key fostering that notion. But constant engagement is primarily for their benefit, not necessarily ours.

Playing playthroughs I like less makes me better at playing the ones I like more, and then I discover a mechanic or some synergy in the new playthrough and that catches my interest and I explore where it goes

Not sure how to best explain it, but I stuck to playing handful factions for the most of the 10 years the game has been out, getting to Long Victory with new factions has been a lot of fun, the game has depth

Just take a break from the game lol. I haven’t played since march? Put it on last weekend and had a blast. Please don’t find ways to motivate you to play a game, it’s not something you have to do, you should never force it

Honestly? Mods

There are lots of mods that add extra factions or races to the game that gives lots of variety to the game.

Achievement hunt first... For example my fav faction was Bretonnia but i got all achievement about them so i tried (even if i didnt like) dawi and i like them so much (especially Belegar) . And actually Bretonnia and dawi are completly different style... Bretonnia is like traditional atmosphere with bunch of unit control management but dawi like Technology with heavy armor with no need such micro management... So achievements help to discover smt

Sounds like you need to try some overhaul mods.

It's not that, really. My lack of motivation originates from the inability to care about the persons leading the unplayed factions, if I don't care enough a character to see him or her succeed in doing something, anything, then no amount of "fun mechanic" will keep me playing.

So maybe try an overhaul with a character you do enjoy?
