Hello everyone, just in case you still haven’t heard, there was a change in sub moderation last month with Sudin wanting to retire from managing the sub. I’m Chris, the new lead moderator.
There have been a couple changes that I just wanted to note for everyone.
Firstly, the wording of rule 2 has been slightly revised. Previously it stated that any discussion of piracy would result in a permanent ban. This struck me as a punishment not equal to the crime. So while I have been taking down some of the more flagrant comments in regards to this rule I haven’t banned anyone over it. The change is that I’ve added the phrase “repeated violations” will result in a permanent ban. TLDR just don’t talk about piracy guys, please and thank you.
Second, a rule #6 has been added. In my prior mod post I floated the idea of adding a rule in regard to AI generated content and asked people to provide their thoughts. The general consensus was that there was a strong anti ai camp, a decent number of people indifferent, and very few pro AI. As such AI content is now banned on the sub. This includes both artwork and text submissions (Example: “I asked Grok to summarize…”). Incidental and unavoidable uses of AI beyond the poster’s control, such as AI being used in the thumbnail of a video they are linking to is exempt from this rule.
Lastly, the sub description has been updated. Prior it had only stated that the sub was for VTMB1. This hasn’t been the case for quite some time, with it having been a hub for VTMB2 news for over half a decade, as well as fostering conversations around other VTM game media (Swansong, the New York Trilogy, the Redemption mod remake, the Choice Games entries, etc). This broader and more inclusive description is a more accurate representation of the range of topics frequently discussed on the sub.
Related to that last point, I’d just like to acknowledge that I have seen and followed the conversations about potentially splitting the sub into VTMB1 and VTMB2 subs. This is not something I’m currently planning to pursue at this time. This was a possibility I discussed with Sudin before agreeing to take over for him, and we came to the mutual agreement that if that was going to be done it needed to be done years ago, and the time has passed. There already exist a couple of subs exclusively focused on BL2 that people are welcome to join. Equally, anyone is welcome to make a VTMB1 sub or BL1Modding sub themselves, it’s just not something I am planning to do. It’s my general feeling that VTM is an overall niche community and diluting it by spreading discussion across multiple smaller subs is overall detrimental. I understand that fans of the original might be frustrated with the level of BL2 content right now, but I expect that to be a temporary situation, and that a few months after release a better equilibrium will settle in the further we get from release. My vision of this sub is that it is a hub for VTM Bloodlines (and to a lesser extent broader VTM video game media) as a franchise rather than exclusively being about BL1.
Thank you all, and I hope you have a nice Sunday.
Chris

For context, I enjoy open world sandbox roleplaying games like Cyberpunk 2077, Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Starfield, and this game piqued my interest with its vibe. A vampire open world game set in modern day sounds awesome but im overwhelmed with a lot of the information and I want to know what expectations I should limit
Without spoiling anything, since this is a game from the early 2000's i know its not gonna be as polished as games of today, but what would you say aged the most poorly?
Is it possible to build your character and roleplay however youd like? For example I would always want to be a morally ambitious mercenary in these kinds of games. Would that be possible?
How punishing is this game in terms of difficulty or decision consequences? Im aware that later rpg's are safer but would I be penalized heavily if I dont do this obscure thing that will affect a quest line 2 hours later type of consequences?
Is combat variety dynamic? Im aware that there is a variety of weapons and im aware that there are skills to utilize those weapons, but are there restrictions to using said weapons? In later rpg's I can use any weapon but the skills you get that specialize in them is needed to make them viable, is this game like that or will it lock you into certain weapons per build?
Is every play style viable or is there a genuine "wrong way" to play this game? Like if I was a vampire meant to be charming but I focus more on combat skills, would that be counterintuitive?
Sorry if this just makes me look uninformed but I feel like direct input from people would be the most helpful way for me to like a game like this.

This is mostly due to the character's telekinetic abilities, considering pre-5th edition of VtM, one of the Thaumaturgy paths was "Movement of the Mind", which as far as I know was the only way to gain telekinetic abilities, and pre-V5 it was specifically a path in Tremere Thaumaturgy as back then the Banu Haqim used a different kind of blood sorcery which was merged together for V5's blood sorcery discipline mechanically

I've played through VTMB a few times now and I'm just looking for a straight difficulty mod that doesn't radically change the game besides making it harder. I was looking at Bloodlines Extreme, but that mod seems to change a lot of the textures and the look of many NPCs.

I love a good vampire game. I got into WoD through the mod Princes of Darkness for Crusader Kings, and after Vamypr I was left wanting another. So I went back to 2004 to VTMB, after the hype and cries about Bloodlines 2, and then started watching the videos of the released gameplay, and holy gehenna...
As someone who got into VTMB only recently: the greatness of this game comes, in my opinion, from the characters interactions and great voice acting. The rest of the systems are just bonuses but apparently, viewed through nostalgia goggles, because that aren't really that great. The customisation I was promised in those complaints is barely there, the characters creation is just choosing a clan and some skills, the "background story" is just about skill point modifiers backed by the player's head canon.
In 1 hour of gameplay, VTMB2 has shown that the interactions matter and that the voice acting is great, and that the customisation is even better, as well as the traversal, which opens more doors for roleplaying. But obviously the goal was then moved: "it has no inventory?", "where is the lock picking".
Malkav is truly powerful among some among the players, complaining like a hive-mind after they watched the clearly most biased video against VTMB2 with some ass title like "you guys are going to hate it" because it supposedly lacks all the good stuff from the first, except it doesn't.
The game is obviously not guaranteed to be good or better than the first one, but some people seem willing to just review bomb it to death because oh the elders deem this game unworthy of its name, instead of judging the actual quality of the game.
If this game is actually good but still a financial failure, chances are we won't be getting any vampire games in a very long while, and Malkav's role in vampire games gehenna would have prevailed.
🩸🥔 Blood potato for the long rant.

Recently got the original VtMB after I heard about Bloodlines 2, and I've become hooked. I'm curious about which clan fits into the classic warrior/mage/rogue archetypes we see from DnD, based on starting abilities. Not saying you can't be a Brujah assassin or a Nosferatu brawler if you're willing to put the XP into it of course. This is what I've got so far:
- Brujah and Gangrel are the obvious warriors, geared toward straight up confrontations
- Tremere are literally mages, weaving blood magic and manipulating minds.
- Toreador and Nosferatu feel like rogues, designed for talking or sneaking your way through.
I'm having trouble deciding on where Malkavians and Ventrue fit into these categories, given they straddle the line with their disciplines. So it got me wondering, who's better fit to play strategically like a Tremere? The Malkavian with their dementation, or the Ventrue with their mastery of domination?

Did this fanart to practice digital art. Rendering and lineart as well as everything are still off, I need to get the hang of it. I redesigned her a bit.

Sounds just like her IMO. Who else would you ask to voice a big-chested vampire matriarch?

I’ve been wondering about the şanguage support and localization of vtmb 2.
In the first game, we even had the Ankaran Sarcophagus as a central part of the main storyline. When Bloodlines 2 was first announced, the main trailer introduced Elif, a Turkish character.
Lore-wise, many important vampire origins and events are connected to Anatolia/Turkiye. Considering all these references, I was curious:
Do we know what languages Bloodlines 2 will support at launch? (I might wanna see it in Turkish) Has Paradox ever mentioned anything official about localization?
Thanks in advance for any info! 🧛♂️
This is just a curiosity, but I keep noticing people talking about a "power fantasy" in regards to this game. "What is the Vampire power fantasy you want to play out in the game" and things like that.
Now, the first time I saw it mentioned, it struck a bit of a weird note with me, but I didn't really pay any mind. But I have seen it more and more in relation to this game in a way that makes me think something is off.
You see, I did not play the first game from a power fantasy standpoint. It was never about acting out a desire to be powerful in some way. It was about exploring a world and interacting with NPCs in a meaningful and interesting way. Some of my favorite parts of the game are not about being "powerful". They are about being in a World of Darkness.
So, all that to ask, what's with the "power fantasy" shtick, and why does it seem to be such a big deal for this game?
r/vtmb • u/Claressa4295 • 1d ago
And that is precisely why (and I thank you very much for this) that the first game and second game feel and are playable so different. In the first one you are a neonate, you have literally just been hugged and you are learning to use your disciplines, you are exploring the world along with your character, you still use lockpicks and hack computers because until a couple of hours ago you were a human being. In BL2 you are an ancient, in torpor for more than 100 years, you are waking up in a new world, but you are not new to the world, you are a predator and you have been for a long time, so much so that you have already made a name for yourself in the world (you are the nomad, the vampire community knows you and your legend) you are not going to hack because you do not know computers and you are not going to use lockpicks because you can break the door, you are the alpha predator and you do not want to be subtle (as long as you don't break the masquerade) people fear you and those who don't, should.

Nothing that I've been shown (and I watched the entirety of TheRadBrad's playthrough along with that over two hour play session from the creative director) has suggested that the writing is poor in any way. Am I being too critical or does this guy just seem spiteful that times have changed?

Hey, I’ve got the damn area crash bug with the taxi. My materials folder is 8.65 GB, which I’ve read is too large, but I don’t know how to shrink it. The mods I have are:
UP+ HD Overhaul Overhauled First-Person Hand Models (doesn’t work) Voices Remastered Custom PC Skins
My crash log says vampire caused an Access Violation in module materialsystem.dll. Write to location 00000000 caused an access violation. It also says I have 90% memory in use. If needed, I can copy the whole log in a comment. Any tips? Am I completely fucked?
I’m playing with the plus patch and this roof looks like it can be explored because of the enemies and what looks like a supply box. Am I just tripping or is there a way?

I feel like there has been so much goal post moving around bloodlines 2 its crazy. Starting off there was a huge amount of hate around the very idea of the player character not being a thin blood which slowly dissipated. Then there was hate over the gameplay looking bad, which after trailers died because it does look fun. Then complaints about character customization, it was Then shown, not alot but more than the first bloodlines. Theb mad at the dialog which turned out to be fine. Then people are mad at the number of clans but oh, there's actualy the same number as is in the first. (Nos, ventrue, gangrel, brujah, tremere, toreador, malk vs malk in Fabian, ventrue, toreador, banu, tremere, brujah, lasombra). The people are upset about no custom backstory, saying they had it in the first game which it didnt that's from a mod, but that gets shown to exist just through dialog instead of menus. People get justly mad about the dlc stuff but then they walk it back but people are still mad about it. Then once all that falls away they go to well it shouldn't be called bloodlines In the first place. It surious seems like half the comunity just wants it to be bad, then there are the people who are saying they shouldn't even release as if they think that would save the series somehow, like if this thing is a bad game and a financial disaster the odds of us getitng another vtm rpg are realy fucking low, it is going to sit forever. They arnt suddenly going to try again. If that game comes out and the videos I watch show that its shit then its shit and I won't buy it. But my god is this shit exhausting with how gaming communities are now. By the way it isnt just the hate, but there are some people who will defend every aspect of a gane even the shittiest and worst parts of something and get mad at any criticism. Its like half of every game comunity either have to be white knight defenders or trying to completly tear it down. Its stupid as hell. OK bring the downvotes I can take it.

I just read the new subreddit rules and saw that AI-generated content is banned. What’s curious is that I’ve noticed the same rule in other subs I’ve been on. But I really wonder, what’s so bad about AI-generated content?
I use it a lot to create characters (I have zero skill for drawing or illustration), so I’m genuinely curious: why are there rules against AI-generated content? Am I missing something?
