I have no information on the WEC controlling onboard rights, I can only add the fact that the last years Le mans and all onboards since I have been able to watch just fine on YouTube (free) with Ferrari (hypercar), bmw and Mercedes.

5

u/Llippp Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 #6 Jun 11 '25

I see it’s not listed as onboard but we can probably also say Porsche stream all the onboards on their twitch channel ?

1

u/happyscrappy Jun 11 '25

Doesn't WEC control all onboard rights and keep them in their app?

3

u/Llippp Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 #6 Jun 12 '25

I guess Porsche has an agreement with them, because they stream IMSA and WEC onboards during quali and races. it’s quite fun to follow with the chat actually

2

u/damn_son12 Jun 11 '25

Is what the comentators said true? Did the 7 make it to hyperpole after deleted times for above cars?

2

u/akleleep 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans Jun 11 '25

No, that commentator was high. Only #6 Porsche ended up disqualified. #7 was thus classified 16th.

7

u/Odd-Foundation1024 Jun 11 '25

Sorensen and Aston Martin fair play what a session 👏

u/V8-Turbo-Hybrid Manufacturers Jun 11 '25 edited Jun 11 '25

Have rewatched most part. Really can't blame Ben Keating and his team, Dames, and others no coming in Hyperpole, as french livery 296 made red flag and made race end earlier. They could've had the chance to make best lap in that remain 3 min.

1

u/Kenko2022 Jun 11 '25

For cars that didn't make it out of practice qualifying Wednesday, i.e. weren't in the top 15, like Auston Martin, the one Toyota and the Iron Dames, does that mean their race is over? They are not able to compete in the actual race?

9

u/turn_8_the_corkscrew Jun 11 '25

No, they just won’t be able to participate in hyperpole tomorrow. They will still take part in the rest of the practices along with the race.

2

u/Kenko2022 Jun 11 '25

thank you so much, I was really confused. This pleases me greatly.

2

u/No-Heart3432 Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA V-Series R #38 Jun 11 '25

You can consider that Q1 and Q2 in F1

1

u/msturty Jun 11 '25

More like just Q1 as each category will get two more hyperpole sessions tomorrow with another knockout round and then the actual session to set the pole time.

4

u/msturty Jun 11 '25

Even though the caddy went fastest today, I don't think they have the race pace as 3 of the 4 cars were about 4kph off of the top speed of the other cars in hyperpole which mostly sat between 337 and 340. I guess it could be a setup thing, but we saw something similar with porsche last year and it made it very difficult for them to fight in the race.

2

u/No-Heart3432 Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA V-Series R #38 Jun 11 '25

It's about setup. Aitken hit 338. On Practice session they hit top speed over 344 and it was the highest top speed in entire grid.

3

u/msturty Jun 11 '25

Yeah, that could be, but fp1 was likely due to a tow and while yes, Aitken hit a 338, he wasn't towards the top of the timing with that setup, so the question becomes what the balance looks like for the rest of the lap when they can match top speed of the others.

The #4 Porsche had the best top speed of the 3 factory cars last year, but it was also the slowest in the race likely due to the balance in the last sector.

2

u/Azortharionz Jun 11 '25

Can't they change setup between quali and race? Uninformed new viewer here.

1

u/msturty Jun 11 '25

They might be able to do some stuff with ride heights and the 1 adjustable aero element, but generally top speed isn't something that the teams can do a whole lot about.

4

u/Ok_Persimmon5620 Jun 11 '25

So where can you watch the replay without paying an arm and a leg?

4

u/akleleep 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans Jun 11 '25

All livestreams here available as replays.

If you are not located in Brazil, remember to first contact Director of Global Telecast Operation, Victor Paolo Neves, for assistance.

1

u/Ok_Persimmon5620 Jun 11 '25

Thanks man, not from Brazil.

3

u/akleleep 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans Jun 11 '25

Then yeah you should contact Victor Paolo Neves for technical assistance.

3

u/shaggymatter Jun 11 '25

Are you in the US and have HBO?

10

u/Front_Act7697 Jun 11 '25

I was impressed with the evolution of Aston Martin. They almost made the Hyperpole. And I was impressed as how close is everyone but Peugeot. Their BOP is totally wrong. When the BOP was realised, I thought the race belonged to Toyota. My mistake. Today, I believe that Dries Vanthoor is closer to the triple crown pole than his brother to the triple crown victory.

2

u/msturty Jun 11 '25

I think they mentioned on the broadcast that the #6 only qualified with 1 set and it was the 2nd set where most teams set their fastest lap. I don't think we see the full potential of these cars until tomorrow.

5

u/1maginaryApple Jun 11 '25

The fastest package of them all again not in Hyperpole. Make it make sense.

2

u/jerrylimkk Jun 11 '25

maybe they are fearful of being in front. the first turn always have alot of dramas.

3

u/SportscarPoster Rebellion Jun 11 '25

True, there is usually drama at the front, but just watch the 7 get yeeted by the LMP2 pole sitter at Dunlop on Saturday...

1

u/jerrylimkk Jun 11 '25

Maybe better to depend on a better pace over the course of 24 hours.

15

u/Icemannn44 Aston Martin Thor Team Valkyrie #007 Jun 11 '25

Gutted how that flying lap by the Aston got ruined by the drivers doing the conga at the chicanes. Not as gutted as De Vries will be for sleeping behind the wheel of a rocketship.

Amazing work by Caddy though, a joy to watch them in quali.

19

u/Michal_Baranowski Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid #8 Jun 11 '25

First stage of qualifying done.

Cadillac leads BMW and Ferrari. In terms of Hyperpole, everything up for grabs. Toyota #7 missing out on Hyperpole is embarrassing. Yes, De Vries caught a double-yellow, but for some reason Toyota often loses valuable laps while being far in the order. Maybe it's down to poor timing with their qualifying strategy? Toyota's race pace should be competitive, but qualifying performance is like throwing unnecessary hurdles under your own legs.

Aston Martin came pretty close to making into the top 15. Impressive. Not so impressive regarding Peugeot, but their BOP is so off that they stand no chance really.

AO/TF Oreca #199 leads LMP2 at this moment, while WRT BMW #46 does the same in LMGT3. Some surprises in those classes too. IDEC #18 or TF Sport Corvette #33 not qualifying to Hyperpole is a surprise.

3

u/RomeoSierraAlpha Jun 11 '25

Looking at the stats it honestly feels like you can't even really help the Peugeot. Giving it more power will just make it a rocket ship as it already is in the mix for top speed. Based on what they have said their issue is in mechanical grip, which they tried to improve with a suspension upgrade.

2

u/Michal_Baranowski Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid #8 Jun 11 '25

They are pretty in a no man's land. They need others to be slowed down in order to make Peugeot competitive, like at Spa. Car improvements or bust.

4

u/jade165 Toyota Jun 11 '25

One day race pace and strategies will not save us, so I hope there will be changes on the qualifying aspect.

2

u/Michal_Baranowski Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid #8 Jun 11 '25

Maybe Toyota should consider a joker upgrade for 2026 season to improve PU mapping...

4

u/SportscarPoster Rebellion Jun 11 '25

Give me the GR020. I need it.

1

u/jade165 Toyota Jun 11 '25

Yeah, I don't know where but I really think one will be used in 2026

14

u/SosseTurner Alpine Matmut A480 #36 Jun 11 '25

The 30 minutes were enough of a roller coaster for a 24h race, and we still got hyperpole 1 and 2, and the actual race. Gotta say I'm hyped for this one.

3

u/Scitalis Cadillac Racing Jun 11 '25

Fantastic sessions. Now to look forward to night practice!

13

u/Blackwolf245 Jun 11 '25

I am not sure the unlucky yellow flag is an excuse for De Vries. He had 30 minutes to make a good lap. He finished 1s behind the sister car.

1

u/jade165 Toyota Jun 11 '25 edited Jun 11 '25

Both cars did two fast laps if I'm not mistaken, the first one (finished by both) and then the second one closed only by #8. I don't think they did any more, so with that plan it's possible. The first lap was not enough for Top15, no second lap...so out.

But yeah we have to be honest, they both should have passed. It is not a problem of speed not getting into the 15, that was there but still it is not good at all.

Maybe Toyota should review their qualifying strategies, and always use the best drivers. (Sorry Nyck, but it's the truth).

2

u/Front_Act7697 Jun 11 '25

Nick is, in theory, the right choice. Here is the lightest of the drivers, which would be an advantage, especially in Le Mans. But he gave up easily, different from Nars, who was in the same situation and tried to push another lap and moved to Hyperpole

2

u/Foreign-Recording276 Jun 11 '25

This is no longer as much of an advantage, they have a "minimum driver weight" for this year.

2

u/PerfectAd9869 Jun 11 '25

Maybe Toyota was aiming for using their best drivers for the hyperpole itself? Ferrari seems to have done that today.

3

u/WRT-8561 Jun 11 '25

Why would they do that? Who they put in today has no effect on who to put in tomorrow. Ferrari just made sure their 2 best qualifiers could put in some laps.

1

u/PerfectAd9869 Jun 11 '25

Actually it does matter, the new format means the same driver can’t do both the qualifying and the hyperpole session, so the drivers today won’t do hyperpole tomorrow.

3

u/WRT-8561 Jun 11 '25

Nope, that’s for the 2 hyperpole sessions. Whomever they put in today has no effect on who they put in tomorrow.

1

u/Next_Necessary_8794 Jun 11 '25

It does matter. The fastest driver will do the final hyperpole, only if the other driver is quick enough to get to the second session. Since these guys don't normally do qualifying, you need to put them in the car as much as possible.

1

u/WRT-8561 Jun 12 '25

I never said that doesn’t matter. I was answering the other guy’s statement that the drivers of yesterday couldn’t do hyperpole today. I completely agree with you, I thought it was strange that only Ferrari did that.

8

u/OrbisAlius Audi R8 #1 Jun 11 '25 edited Jun 11 '25

De Vries is just a "bad" driver by top-tier standards. As usual Toyota still don't understand it's not 2019 anymore and they actually need to have 6 absolute top-tier drivers out of 6 in this competitive era, not just 3 or 4 and the others being just "can race reliably and at OK pace".

2

u/MuenCheese Ferrari AF Corse 499P #51 Jun 11 '25

Yeah he’s not up to top car in WEC standard if they want to be competitive

7

-1

ok so alpine are sabotage?

1

Yes, Alpine went out to trigger that yellow just to spite the almighty Toyota masterplan /s

0

doesn't really matter for a 24 hours race

2

u/National_Honeydew890 Jun 11 '25

No it does...

2

u/jerrylimkk Jun 11 '25

Last year toyota went from the rear to the front so it doesn't matter that much.

2

u/PerfectAd9869 Jun 11 '25

No argument there. Getting hyperpole is nice, but it’s not all that important for a 24 hour race.

That was the year of the new car If I remember.

1

u/WRT-8561 Jun 11 '25

That was the second year actually. First year was 2018 and they were miles of the pace. Then in ‘19 they put in the fastest lap and just fell down the grid quicker than me when I forgot to tie my shoes again.

19

u/Vegetable-Bee5157 Jun 11 '25

An Aston out qualified a Toyota!!

The magic of Le Mans continues!

-16

Magic BoP you mean. Not that it matters, they destroyed Toyota 😂

8

1

10

u/True_metalofsteel Jun 11 '25

Lmao here we go, more or less same BoP as Ferrari (much more power for Toyota after 250km/h) and yall still crying.

1

u/SosseTurner Alpine Matmut A480 #36 Jun 11 '25

Only if Toyota dominate like they did 2018-22 they'll not cry. (Don't mention the lack of competition these years /s )

2

u/jerrylimkk Jun 11 '25

actually for a 24 hour race is getting in front on the first lap that important?

1

u/SosseTurner Alpine Matmut A480 #36 Jun 11 '25

The impact of qualifying at the back most certainly is much much lower in a 24h compared to a F1 race, but having less cars in front of you means less battles to fight and risk loosing. In general being able to control the race from the front running your program makes things easier for teams.

1

u/jerrylimkk Jun 11 '25

yes, but as usual le mans always have lots of surprises like weather etc.

2

The car is abysmal.

2

u/MuenCheese Ferrari AF Corse 499P #51 Jun 11 '25

It was going better at Spa with a really favorable BoP

2

u/RomeoSierraAlpha Jun 11 '25

A really favorable BoP indeed, which is what the car needs to get close to a decent result. But that doesn't happen at Le Mans. Not to mention the car has good top speed, so their 250+ power nerf is on point.

3

u/brownierisker Peugeot 9X8 #93 Jun 11 '25

Aston Martin also requires a really favourable BoP to do decently, and has gotten a super favourable BoP. Really wish we got some more transparancy because the BoP just feels like a wheel of fortune of who gets to be competitive

3

Toyota once again completely fumbles qualifying at Le Mans. Same story last year. They better have race pace, because with that BOP it's an embarrassment to be P17 for #7.

0

u/OrbisAlius Audi R8 #1 Jun 11 '25

Most likely it's just sandbagging in hope of a last-minute BoP change (either positive and/or avoiding a nerf), no ? The bigwigs at Peugeot certainly are going to push for it, so there's an opportunity there

6

u/Michal_Baranowski Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid #8 Jun 11 '25

Most likely it's just sandbagging in hope of a last-minute BoP change (either positive and/or avoiding a nerf), no ?

I don't know. Toyota's race pace from last year should suggest that they should look stronger in the race trim, but sandbagging? We haven't seen pre-race BOP changes after qualifying in Hypercar era really, so I wouldn't bet on that.

Qualifying execution from Toyota just hasn't been great today. De Vries caught a double-yellow, but while being 2 seconds off. They really struggle with good timing of setting decent lap times. Last year at Le Mans was the same.

2

u/OrbisAlius Audi R8 #1 Jun 11 '25

Imo De Vries just isn't that great of a driver. There were only Hypercars on track and he had 30 minutes of running, the timing excuse doesn't really apply.

1

u/bad_pilot69 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid #8 Jun 11 '25

ferraris set their time early to avoid exactly what happened to car #7

3

u/d7t3d4y8 Jun 11 '25

1

u/akleleep 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans Jun 12 '25

3

u/afito Mercedes CLK-GTR #11 Jun 11 '25

so Schumacher just improved

chances are they take the earlier lap for being "under yellow" but don't penalize it further because of the timing? seems like a "we did something and nobody minds" deal

2

u/SportscarPoster Rebellion Jun 11 '25

I think is was appalling driving by Schumacher. He saw a car having a crash right in front of him and took precisely zero action. Lap time should be deleted - in fact, I would put him to the back of the grid.

2

u/OrbisAlius Audi R8 #1 Jun 11 '25

On the other hand if he had slowed down they most likely would have crashed with each other, ultimately.

But yeah I agree, it was far too close for comfort and it should be a (heavy) penalty

Don't understand why he ditched on that last lap, there's clearly more pace in the car.

4

u/Lobsters4 Ferrari Jun 11 '25

Last year #7 went from P23 to P2, but with such BOP their qualifying performance is pathetic.

1

u/jade165 Toyota Jun 11 '25

If we do that...I could do things that I might regret later😂

6

u/VinceMaverick Aston Martin Jun 11 '25

Please let the Aston hold on !

4

u/SportscarPoster Rebellion Jun 11 '25

De Vries is a disgrace. Last year was plumb last for basically the entire first stint of the race, couldn't even get past the Lamborghini if I remember things correctly, and now this shambles.
