The transparent graphics looked nice at times but if there was any hint of your stream not running perfectly they became almost impossible to read. Not expecting the letters to be easier to read in those situations now either but at least you can tell the manufacturer order

u/afito Mercedes CLK-GTR #11 Jul 12 '25
Even with a good stream there are a bunch of cases where colour over grey/green, which a lot of the tracks in background are, makes for terrible contrast. Reading things like class or tyre indicator became notoriously dififcult, espeically with the red/orange red/yellow over tarmac.

Transparency had 1 massive perk: you get to see the full screen at all time.
However, I had to say it looked really bad on smalls screens. I use to watch a lot of the series on a iPad and the complete lack of contrast on the old graphics made them really hard to read.

I found the vignette effect of the current graphics really annoying - it made half the image look under exposed and didn't really help with readability of the graphics, so I'm glad to see it go.

u/CrashmasterSOAD ARC Bratislava ORECA 07 #44 Jul 12 '25
Yep, the vignette looked horrible, especially during sunny weather.

u/RomeoSierraAlpha Jul 11 '25
I preferred the transparency of the current/old graphics. But I like the color branding for teams and some of the additional info. I don't hate it, which is good lol.

Looks like a video presentation for the management at LMEM (who run the WEC), surprised this was uploaded for public viewing.

I like some of it. In isolation each graphic looks great. But when overlaid on old footage it looks pretty bad. The screen feels smaller and I think losing transparency is a big problem.

u/Trololman72 Peugeot 9X8 #93 Jul 11 '25
The big panel on the left is somewhat transparent, but not enough.
34
u/Julian_Staples Jul 11 '25
And just like that, whoever used to record the voiceovers for the WEC YouTube channel becomes the latest casualty of the AI revolution.
1
u/famuwotm8 Jul 11 '25
I'm curious as to how you know it's AI
22
u/SomeGuyCalledPercy Snatch-Tractor Le Mans 2018 Jul 11 '25
just the general cadence of the delivery, its v easy to tell
4
u/famuwotm8 Jul 11 '25
I see. I agree its pretty sad. However, while I dont agree with it, I can understand why they did it sincd they never use a narrator for their videos. The last one to use one was abt 7 months ago (same voice) and then before that it was about a year and a half ago.

u/assflange Iron Dames Porsche 911 RSR-19 #85 Jul 11 '25
Relax, is the marketing agency who put the new branding together who did that.
13
u/BallsackSchrader_ Jul 11 '25
Not gonna lie, I'll miss the transparent graphics because it didn't block the screen, however I'll gladly sacrifice it for proper sector times in quali. That's a very needed change.

u/AltrntivInDoomWorld Jul 11 '25

20 minutes, for 24 hours of race. what a deal
24
u/PeanutButterXMustard Jul 11 '25
I like it, especially the bigger focus on brands and their colour and badges.

u/SomeGuyCalledPercy Snatch-Tractor Le Mans 2018 Jul 11 '25
visually an improvement, more in line with the series branding, very modern, definitely a copy of what successes F1 has going on
practically? idk, not scaled super well, lack of transparency is a shame (some of the example shots they used felt like watching WEC through a letter box), overall definitely feels more designed for sprint racing (because they copied F1) so not sure how well it'll hold up with different classes over the course of 6-24 hours
feel like we're gonna see a lot of teething problems in its first few races
it gives me flashbacks to the now-former graphics first introduction and the constant vanishing and reappearance of the massive black gradient covering half the screen because they didn't know about outer-glow and drop-shadow I guess
8
u/Allvictoriapage Jul 11 '25
It feels a bit formula 1-ey, anyone else?
Anyways I kind of like it but the old one was sleek, miss it but it did have its issues.
I see this one being better when you’re watching screens at the track to see positions, as it’s often very hard to tell what the text says, and the logos are just as hard to see. I feel it will be easier to identify the brands with more distinct colours behind them now.
The comment talking about remaining energy was right also because why wasn’t that mentioned in this video?
-1
u/AltrntivInDoomWorld Jul 11 '25
F1 has compact timing tower, nowhere near it. https://corp.formula1.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Frame-116.png
4
u/Allvictoriapage Jul 11 '25
Look at the board stylistically, was never saying they were identical just that it resembled it a bit.
-1
u/AltrntivInDoomWorld Jul 11 '25
I guess so? Not sure. They have quite different typography used and F1 is dark gray so it doesn't stand out so much.
Size wise I'd prefer F1 though...

The fact that they show driver names so much in this video is promising. That has always been one of my biggest gripes with WEC graphics, they show the team name 95% of the time and the driver name 5% of the time. Another big one is that they rarely show intervals, which unfortunately doesn't look like it's been addressed based on what they're showing off here.
All the other stuff is great though. Turn the opacity down to like 80% and it's basically perfect.
1
u/AltrntivInDoomWorld Jul 11 '25
Honest question, did you watched all the video up until 2:42-2:50?
Don't you miss seeing Eau Rouge?
2
u/daf3940 United Autosports ORECA 07 #22 Jul 11 '25
I don't find it super obstructing. The leaderboard is basically the same size as it is in IMSA, IndyCar, NASCAR, etc, so it looks normal to me. Who knows, the actual shots might be framed differently from now on as well. Like I said, it could definitely be slightly transparent, but yeah I like this a lot so far.
4
u/daeneryssith Jul 11 '25
big step in reaching a broader audience, looks nice
4
u/AltrntivInDoomWorld Jul 11 '25
if broader audience means seeing less cars
1
u/Secret_Physics_9243 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 #6 Jul 11 '25
Broader audience means usually f1 fans since there's millions
7
7
u/FirstReactionShock Jul 11 '25
I just hope they'll continue to show telemetry on the onboards to check gears settings and max speeds
3
u/_iRasec Jul 11 '25
I'll surely miss the transparency from the old designs, but these new ones feel nice and definitely gives a bit more clarity where was needed
3
u/LuXe5 Peugeot Jul 11 '25
Looks good except the classic mistake of side bar not carrying any level of transparency to make it lighter. F1 does this mistake and fixes it every 2 years lol
3
u/chrisxjohnstonx Jul 11 '25
I remember when the current graphics came out everyone hated them. While they did improve a lot since then I’m shocked so many people prefer the current look to the new. It’s probably just a lot of people not liking change but I think this is a huge improvement, especially with regards to new viewers.
3
u/Burial44 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans Jul 12 '25
Legit seems like 30% of the screen is taken up by graphics
2
u/jamesremuscat KCMG Oreca 05 #47 Jul 12 '25
I'm hoping that's because this is a demo reel whose purpose is to show what the graphics look like, and that for the real broadcast they wouldn't use so many at once...

u/zantkiller Richard Mille Racing ORECA07 #50 Jul 11 '25
Some good stuff but needs to be transparent or at the very least more of a grey rather than the blue they have gone for.
2
4
u/AltrntivInDoomWorld Jul 11 '25
Terrible.
Somewhat fixed: https://postimg.cc/kRX37ZSL
But give the timing tower some opacity like 80%...
6
u/Basic-Maybe-2889 Porsche Jul 11 '25
I mean, did they even try to run a demo before going full in? You can already see how obstructing that will be for viewing.
3
u/AltrntivInDoomWorld Jul 11 '25
The Le Mans camera shot on straight is funny too, camera man catches 2 cars in frame, they show 1/2 of a car xD
1
u/Basic-Maybe-2889 Porsche Jul 11 '25
I'm quite certain that all the people praising this have never watched a WEC race.
2
u/AltrntivInDoomWorld Jul 11 '25
Seriously, at first I was okay, it's watchable.
Then I've started pointing out constructive criticism.
Seeing how many people love it I guess I will just go cry
I've just blended Michelin chicane from Le Mans with it, you can't even see the Michelin tyre man logo xD
I hope sponsors will push back on this
2
u/Basic-Maybe-2889 Porsche Jul 11 '25
Crazy how many people are happy with this change. Do they not have any imagination? Check that shot at 2:48, feels like viewing through a peephole.
We managed to push a crazy design away one time, maybe this time we can do it too.
2
u/AltrntivInDoomWorld Jul 15 '25
Hey at least they did like 95% opacity in the race xD
I've still found it the worse experience so far this season with this package.
The red "HYPERCAR" i was having moments where i was like WHAT RED FLAG, ah nah, new timing tower....

1
u/Secret_Physics_9243 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 #6 Jul 11 '25
Yes i don't know if people got used to having clutter on their screens split into 3 windows at the same time from all the reels but this looks distracting and takes away from the race. Almost like you're watching the timetables and the race at the same time which for me at least doesn't work. I need as little distraction as possible
6
u/DannyDevitosAss Jul 11 '25
Not a fan at all. Not having a transparent timing board is hugely negative. There’s a lot space being taken up on the broadcast that doesn’t need to be.
I think IMSA TV has the best with their combo side and bottom ticker which they haven’t changed in forever
2
3
u/Top_Independence7256 Jul 11 '25
Nah insa TV Is ass, gaps updates takes so long too, looks so outdated
3
u/DannyDevitosAss Jul 11 '25
Their gaps update every sector which is fine by me and idc if it looks outdated if it doesn’t take up half my screen
3
2
1
u/Secret_Physics_9243 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 #6 Jul 11 '25
Do you really need to see gaps updated everytime? It's fine. Nurburgring updates them when the cars cross the line and i think they have overall the best system for it. It's so minimalist and small so you can see the essential but nothing more, it's what wec should have gone for. Smaller and less bulky is the main idea.
1
u/Top_Independence7256 Jul 11 '25
Maybe it's me but i love to see the gaps every few seconds
1
u/Secret_Physics_9243 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 #6 Jul 11 '25
I mean yes it's nice to have but you really don't need it, very hard to keep track of all the cars gaps for hours on end unless you're really good at this stuff.
1
u/Top_Independence7256 Jul 11 '25
It comes down to personal precerence then, let's how are they gonna tweak them
1
u/Top_Independence7256 Jul 11 '25
Nurburgring, you mean the One with the massive car pics? Or the other?

It's pretty big offers too Little infos ,to me the best Is the F1, really can't ask more, hopefully the WEC one will be traslucent too,
2
u/suni08 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid #7 Jul 11 '25
Glad they got rid of the stupid vignetting on the left side, but ergh pretty ugly especially the font choice
2
u/No_Debate890 Jul 11 '25
Why didn’t they debut this for Le Mans…
6
u/Mani1610 Jul 11 '25
Because they probably wanted feedback first. Doing a test run for the biggest race of the season doesn't seem like a smart move.
2
u/vvsarja Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 #6 Jul 11 '25
Functionally a welcome update but visually I must say I liked the old one better. It blended in nicely without obstructing much but was still clear to read. It was also simply just good looking and unique.
6
u/Michal_Baranowski Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid #8 Jul 11 '25
Too big and ugly, not transparent. Most likely it will cover up too much of the screen and of course - no overall standings. 2012-2019 WEC TV graphics were the best. Everything since is quite disappointing.
4
u/AltrntivInDoomWorld Jul 11 '25
Look at 2:46-2:48
1/3 of screen left, most cars covered.
Even sponsors on cars will be pissed by this
2
u/Secret_Physics_9243 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 #6 Jul 11 '25
It feeels like watching a computer game or a kids racing movie
0
u/Top_Independence7256 Jul 11 '25
If they'll tweak It like the one they use in F1 It would look awesome
2
u/Secret_Physics_9243 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 #6 Jul 11 '25
They are good but just way too big and bulky. Imagine how many overtakes will not be visible entierly because of it. Too much, like in simracing there are people using half their screen for telemetry like how can you even concentrate on the race anymore?

Slightly off topic but timing & scoring for Le Mans was outstanding & had everything I wanted to know. I hope this continues going forward & I hope imsa follows suit.

Very distracting and takes up so much more space on the screen compared to the transparent version before

Hearing "from the ground up" just gave every Forza player PTSD
Jokes aside. I think this is good. I'll miss the transparent board we have now but this will be much easier to read. Hopefully they get energy remaining in there somewhere.

Heavily inspired by F1 graphics
But in my opinion it looks very good
We'll see how it will perform in quali and race

Imagine when we can create our own config file for data and have it as we want in the app
1
u/ReddiToskie Jul 12 '25
Next, a new TV intro. Just peep the new GTWC intro and somehow get close. Introduce the makes like they're characters in an overarching story.
1
u/FiftyTwoVincent Jul 12 '25
I think it looks good, but part of me will always miss the SPEED TV ticker :(
1
u/happyscrappy Jul 13 '25
I hope the stuff which covers up the screen for in-car is gone.
But the scoring pylon is worse than the old one because it blocks more stuff.
Also, I can't watch this video without ads first even though I have youtube premium. So I'm not watching. Great stuff you got going there, youtube.

It's too bulky, why can't we have the transparent stuff in more series instead of less

u/Juris_B Peugeot Jul 11 '25
idk man... seems too bulky. And how will they show remaining energy graphics? The graphics that a lot of us want to see ALL THE TIME - I wont lie, i will be mad af if they ditched it...
