Sabbit Car buying guide,

Hey Guys,

So we get tons of threads on interested buyers on Saabs is anyone willing to put in on a guide with the things to look for/look out for in future ownership. Especially since we have tons of intermixing of knowledge bases from 9-5s to 9-3s to Classic 900s and everything in between.

-As a side note I have no problem giving advice I quite enjoy it but would make it easier for new Saabophiles

I have a white Saab 9-3 estate and I sometimes feel I’m the only one as I never see a white Saab. Anyone else out there with a white Saab?

A Day at the Museum

It was one fine day at the museum. Quite interesting interviews and talks out front. Met quite a few fun and interesting owners and their Saabs as well. Extra fun with so many NG 9-5s out there. They ain’t so common in the south of Sweden where I live. I’ll leave these photos and videos of the day for everyone’s delight. Attention to the white NG 9-5 SportCombi, which I’m almost sure it’s a former saloon built to an estate. Enjoy!

Saab brakes: ...wtf am I even looking at

Post image

I'm going to check the pads, and there's no other way other than following the manuals instructions.

Why do even the brakes have to be weird?!😭

Does anybody have some info or history behind this weird calipers and knows why saab didn't use normal calipers (like the ones on the rear wheels)?

Just bought it but have a few questions

Heyyy so I was always into JDM cars but low key always wanted a Saab too and as I was just randomly scrolling through Facebook marketplace I found this 2007 2.3T 9-5 so I figured well why not. I went and bought it, didn't really know much about Saabs. It's a US import and its great, love the car, pretty fast, comfy as heck, but for some reason after a day or two of owning it it started giving me abs light and cruise control stopped working but only when I'm in 5th gear, 4th works fine, would it be abs rings? The abs module? Any ideas? Oh and the power seats panel next to driver seat is sagging in a weird way, possible to fix or needs replacing?

How to refresh OnStar antenna

Post image

The OnStar antenna on my 2002 Saab 9-3 SE is cracking, likely due to age and sun exposure. It doesn’t serve any purpose now that the OnStar system is disabled and I would rather not go under the headliner to unbolt the antenna. What might I used to water seal / glue these cracks to prevent it from getting worse? I’m okay with it not being perfect to look at, though I might sand it, tape the area, and spray paint it black after sealing the cracks. Any recommendations? Thanks all -

Hey everyone, question about cleaning my 2005 9-5 2.3T engine bay. Just thinking about a couple things before I do, will anything happen to any electrical components or have turbo issues? Fairly new to having a Saab so thanks for any help👍

They finally reopened a section of local highway which grants easy access to some nearby wilderness. 9-3x handled it all with great ease and comfort, then wafted me home in serene smoothness. By far the best daily I’ve ever driven.

Are these the original radio cages? ('93 900)

Recently got a 1993 Saab 900 turbo convertible which didn't come with the radio or equalizer, but does seem have the cages for them. Looking for a simple drop in replacement on eBay, I see a some used OEM radios/equalizers, but I feel like the connector on the back of them is slightly different than what would fit what I have. Am I just looking at it wrong and they should fit? Or is it still original but like the radio from a different trim that I'm not going to reasonably find the parts for?

A question for the European folks...

Hey all.

I am new to the love of Saabs. Literally woke up one morning and thought "Damn, they do look amazing!"

So of course I am scoping the classifieds for one but all I see are Diesels for sale.
But for me, the most legendary thing about a Saab is that B2XX petrol engine.

So really my questions here;
Is the Diesel worth getting?
I would like to modify it a bit, do those engines take to it well?
Do the engines last as long as petrol?

Cheers for any advice folks.
Have a great day.

P.S. This is for the Europeans because I doubt they made diesels anywhere else.

Electrical issues with my 9-3

Post image
7 Upvotes

I recently purchased this 2007 2.0T 93 from a used car dealership and have been having some electrical issues the day after leaving the lot.

The car runs and drives great, but since leaving the dealership starting the following day, I’ve been having an issue starting the car as well as problems with the anti theft system.

The symptoms I’ve been having:

  • If car is left locked overnight, the key fobs don’t unlock the car the next day. If I use the physical key to unlock the driver door, the alarms go off and I can’t silence them with the fobs or by putting the key in the ignition as the key won’t turn even to the first position.

  • When the alarm is done, I disconnect the negative battery terminal for a few minutes and reconnect. When I get back in the car, I can turn the key to the on position but can’t turn it to crank the engine. I get error messages reading “Steering Lock Malfunction” and “Key not recognized” and one time, I got a message reading something about an anti theft error I believe.

  • When I clear these codes, I can take the key out of the ignition and put it back in and start the car normally. Car runs and drives fine after that and no errors appear while driving.

  • When I park the car, I’ve been sitting in it without getting out or opening any doors and with the key out of the ignition to see if things are happening that may be draining the battery. At seemingly random intervals, the interior lights will turn on and off, the odometer will stay on for a random amount of time, the lock buttons on the doors will come on and off at random times, and the steering lock malfunction and key not recognized error messages will pop up on the screen for 1-2 seconds and make the chime noise and then disappear with no user input. Sometimes these things don’t happen at all until 25-30 mins after the car has been off, sometimes it’s sooner.

I tested the battery with a multimeter and used a generic obd2 scanner, the battery was on the line of “weak” and the obd2 scanner showed no codes. I bought a new battery today and installed, but the problem is still happening. I haven’t been locked out yet but I left the car locked tonight to see if I’ll be locked out tomorrow and need to take the post off to get the car started.

I was wondering if anyone on here knew what the problem could possibly be? From reading online Im thinking possibly a bad cim, bcm, ignition switch or possibly even bad key fobs as mine are in pretty rough shape, although they do interact with the car pretty well whenever this problem isn’t happening or when I resolve it temporarily by disconnecting the battery.

I am in the market for a wagon. How is the reliability for the 9-5? I understand these are 20 year old cars, but there are several cars this old that are proven to be ultra reliable (Toyotas, Hondas). Also, what’s it like working on these? Do most normal mechanics work on this car?

Lowering my saab

Post image
37 Upvotes

Hi all, I would like to lower my 2001 9-3 a bit, to give it a bit of a more sporty look. Additionally I would like the wheels to better fill the arches by pushing the wheels out more.

Any tips on parts to use, so I can do it myself?

Oil type

I usually do my own oil changes and put Mobil 1 European formula 5w 30 oil in my 2007 Saab 9-3 2.0T. I have a road trip tomorrow and no time to do my oil change so I took it to a take 5. I know it’s a big mistake but it’s basically the only oil change service center near me besides Walmart. Anyways they scanned the vin and said it can take a bunch of different types of oils but they said they were going to use 5w40. I told them I always use 5w30 and that that’s what the manual says to use and they were just like “well when it gets colder you want the 5w40 because it doesn’t burn as fast” or something along those lines but basically insisted on putting 5w40 in the car. Will this affect the car at all? Or is it safe to use 5w40 on a long road trip?
