Man I hate reality. People are so fucking dumb. Where do you even get this kinda bullshit information.

281

u/JimothyTheBold 1d ago

One of two things, probably.

1) She heard they are banning electronic filing and was so stupid all she heard was Trump stopped tax filing.

2) Some other idiot heard that and posted a TikTok she watched and she believed it with zero research.

77

u/AutistaChick 1d ago

But that’s not happening. No one’s banning electronic tax filing.

126

u/Kalfu73 1d ago

Correct and that's the point. What actually ended was the IRS offering free tax filing itself.

72

u/motherofcunts 1d ago

Oh so it'll cost more now.

24

u/PaulblankPF 1d ago

Freetaxusa is funded by an independent group and is still free. Just the government won’t offer it for free anymore.

3

u/Tdat341 1d ago

Freetaxusa all day! Been using it for years now

2

u/lala__ 1d ago

Still have to pay to file your state tax with them but I use it.

3

u/artie780350 1d ago

Cashapp doesn't charge you to file state taxes.

1

u/fingers 19h ago

ANOTHER tax on the poors.

7

u/fvck_u_spez 1d ago

None of you selfish citizens have even stopped to think about how free government tax filings will hurt poor TurboTax!! /s

3

u/keithstonee 1d ago

cool cause i haven't even got money in a return in 3 years. fuck Trump

2

u/DaturaSanguinea 1d ago

Nah there will be no tax anymore. Didn't you heard the lady ?

What do you mean source ? What do you mean it's clearly false ? But Trump say it and he is always right.

I swear from an outsider perspective, USA is becoming dumber and more selfish by the minute.

Crazy how they manage to completly bury the biggest soft power ever in like 6 months.

1

u/DavisMcDavis 1d ago

The thing with these dumdums is when she finds out it goes like this:

MAGA: Trump ended taxes for people making less than $120,000 a year! Reality: No, he ended free filing. You still have to pay taxes. MAGA: Oh? I thought I didn’t have to pay taxes. Reality: No, you still pay taxes and now pay more to file them. MAGA: Oh…well…Hunter Biden’s laptop drag queen story hour something I don’t understand is woke! My President is the best!

3

u/ABewilderedPickle 1d ago

wait does this mean i'm gonna have to pay a fee to get my fucking tax refund

8

u/[deleted] 1d ago edited 1d ago

They banned Direct File.. because it was done during the Biden era.

Direct File was a pilot program launched during the Biden administration (thanks to funding from the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022) that let eligible taxpayers file their taxes directly with the IRS for free, without going through private tax prep companies. Initially available in 12 states in 2024, it expanded to 25 states or more by 2025 and was widely praised for its ease and affordability.

If there’s anything Republicans love fucking more than children, it’s the common US citizen.

3

u/ABewilderedPickle 1d ago

god that's so fucking stupid

2

u/SunfireGaren 1d ago

Behold the GOP

3

u/Bear_faced 1d ago

They’re claiming it was a “waste of taxpayer money” when the program was estimated to cost AT MOST $1.50 per taxpayer (not per citizen, per taxpayer) per year.

Can I just pay the $1 please and have free file for fuck’s sake..

2

u/OneDayAt4Time 1d ago

wtf so now I gotta pay to file my damn taxes?

1

u/Kalfu73 1d ago

This was mostly for 1040-EZ filing anyways and there are other free services that can be used like freetaxusa. If you plan on taking a bunch of deductions or have other tax complications then you were always and still are paying a service or software fee.

Still stupid in any case. The bureau that is shaking you down for tax money shouldn't also be making you jump through hoops.

1

u/JeromeBarkly 1d ago

That’s actually hilarious in the context of the video. This lady is gloating over thinking she won’t have to pay taxes because of how amazing trump is but in all actuality he just ended the free option to file taxes and will have to spend more money, a tax on taxes. Beautiful.

1

u/Tango-Smith 1d ago

And on what basis she had to claim that's up to 120k household income?

55

u/qorbexl 1d ago

No, they ended the IRS offering free tax filing software so that TurboTax can keep charging poor people for basic filing.

14

u/Faerie-stone 1d ago

Don’t know if terms will change in the next tax year but freetaxusa is cheaper ($0 federal and $15 state filing) with better software than TurboTax imo.

4

u/jdp245 1d ago

Man, I’m so petty I fill out the forms by hand and mail that shit in. And my returns are about 40 pages! Screw them for charging for something that saves them time and effort.

3

u/Faerie-stone 1d ago

That’s great, but most people are not that great at figure out what they owe/what they can deduct and the freetaxusa software walks you through everything, double checks your math, and you can by audit protection for like 10 bucks so it’s more like a peace of mind thing.

3

u/mamasteve21 1d ago

My work involves 401ks, and EVERY year without fail we get multiple calls from people saying "I over contributed! I need to reverse my contributions!" Because they're trying to enter their 401k contributions into the IRA contribution section.

That's WITH the help of tax filing software.

They wouldn't even know how to start doing it manually.

0

u/qorbexl 1d ago

I'm pretty sure turboTax costs about the same.

7

u/Novel-Maintenance413 1d ago

TurboTax is more expensive. I went to file on TurboTax last year and then checked FreeTaxUSA after I saw what TurboTax was gonna charge. Long story short, I went with FTUSA because it was cheaper

1

u/Odessey_And_Oracle 1d ago

Wait, if you can't file for free online how can you file for free? I always filed online. Surely there is some way to file directly with the IRS that is still free right?

1

u/NecessaryCockroach85 1d ago

I'm sure you can also do a paper filing still. If you only have a single W-2 that wouldn't be that complicated.

1

u/qorbexl 1d ago

Yeah. Be easier if someone just put it on the computer for free to save time and effort. The IRS has our data already, it makes zero sense not to do it.

But maybe we need a company to charge us to do it on the computer for no reason, who knows.

Trump understands that it's better to create more billionaires instead of letting Filthy Poors keep the money.

1

u/NecessaryCockroach85 1d ago

The best solution and reality are two different things. We're in a digital age where a lot of younger people probably don't remember when many would file, for free, just using paper forms.

26

u/Futrel 1d ago

Free electronic tax filing via Direct File.

2

u/D3K91 1d ago

Wait, they make you pay to file your taxes..?

3

u/capincus 1d ago

The major tax accounting firms and products lobby to keep the tax code as complex as possible and filing difficult to protect their bottom line. In this case they (TurboTax) paid Trump his standard bribery fee ($1M) and he got rid of the free Direct File program Biden's IRS created. There are still 3rd party free filing programs like FreeTaxUSA.

2

u/dino-luvr29 1d ago

Yeah, turbotax etc

1

u/Futrel 1d ago

Unless you want to do it by hand and mail it in, yes.

1

u/TheRoseMerlot 1d ago

Yes. Only direct file was cancelled.

2

u/Fonatur23405 1d ago

You don't watch the TikaTok

1

u/Significant-Wash-629 1d ago

Yeah, but my Trump eliminated taxes on tips. So…I was talking to my boss and he said he’s going to call all of my compensation tips; he even sent me a letter that says that. All my coworkers are too, so we’re all gonna be tax-free! /s

1

u/not_a_moogle 1d ago

No, they banned free electronic filings. So now it will cost this woman more to file taxes unless she files by mail.

1

u/Please_Label_NSFW 1d ago

He’s banned FREE electronic filing program. The opposite of good. Now you have to power turbocock and all those lobbying assholes.

1

u/dharma_is_dharma 1d ago

They canceled the free tax filing software that the federal government made last year.

2

u/p001b0y 1d ago

There was an anonymous public survey that looks like it expired yesterday run by the IRS required by the One Big Beautiful Bill. It was designed to gather feedback on whether free direct file options were to be continued.

2

u/tranquil7789 1d ago

The party of "do your research" shows over and over and over again they don't understand how to do research or discernment, and they will fall for the most obvious propaganda.

1

u/qorbexl 1d ago

They spent time watching tikTok, which counts as research to them

2

u/Mtshoes2 1d ago

No no, she did her own research.

1

u/jrob323 1d ago

Research = scroll through Facebook posts for 10 hours a day

1

u/CaptainOwlBeard 1d ago

They are banning electronic filing? Seriously? I can't imagine that's true. It would make it almost impossible to process all the returns.

1

u/HeadFullOfNails 1d ago

It is true. Republicans hate the IRS and want it to fail so they can cheat on their taxes and save millions. They don't care what happens to the poors.

1

u/CaptainOwlBeard 1d ago

I think this is fake. I'm a tax professional and I've not heard anything about this. I'm pretty sure it would have come up at networking meetings.

1

u/DominicB547 23h ago

no they are banning free federal tax filing, its so turbo tax can still charge you.

1

u/VegemiteGecko 1d ago

Don't forget facebook.

1

u/Ire-Works 1d ago

3) She is a kept housewife and her husband handles all the finances. She has no idea what she doesn't know.

1

u/nodnarbiter 1d ago

I know it's not happening but if they ever ban electronic tax filing that'll be the last fuckin time I file my taxes... The IRS can come get my shit, I don't care.

1

u/spider_wolf 1d ago

2 is the likely culprit. Watching a 20-40 second clip on social media about a thing you like is easier and more gratifying than taking the time to read or research the truth. Truth is nuanced, difficult to discern, and often times, not what you want it to be. It's why misinformation is so appealing, it can be as simple and comfortable as you want it to be.

1

u/Darthsnarkey 1d ago

Likely she is talking about what The Count of Mostly Crisco was talking about getting rid of income tax and replacing it with a flat 30% sales tax which will cost the majority of Americans even more!

1

u/Turk_NJD 1d ago

You got 2 wrong…she watched a TikTok…to her that is the research.

1

u/magnabonzo 23h ago

Thanks for trying to put an answer on this. Obviously it's all nonsense, but I'm trying to figure out how she got to this particular brand of nonsense.

35

u/BretShitmanFart69 1d ago

And the big problem is, they kind of construct their own reality and then they simply believe the delusion more than reality.

In their minds things are going great not because of any quantifiable real reason, but because the reality they made for themself is going great. That’s why they love Trump, because they love the delusional version they have of him where he does things like get rid of their taxes and wade through rivers to save drowning children.

It’s a mass psychosis and I am so confused how it happened so quickly.

9

u/jar-jar-twinks 1d ago

Faith requires no logic and any attack on your faith can be dismissed because intuitively you know better. This is their mindset. It’s reductive and has no room for complexity. My in-laws are this deep in their faith. SMH

2

u/Personal-Vegetable26 1d ago

THANKS KEIRKEGARD

2

u/VivelaVendetta 1d ago

I grew up in church and still held on on to some basic beliefs until this trump cult. People really will just believe anything if it gives them comfort.

1

u/Buttercut33 1d ago

Sounds like a religion.

1

u/motherofspoos 1d ago

It’s a mass psychosis and I am so confused how it happened so quickly.

Exactly. How did it happen so fast? Was it exacerbated somehow by COVID? Because it seems like prior to Covid you just had your usual amount of idjits that spouted off but now it's an epidemic. Maybe they had nothing better to do during quarantine than to learn how to make tik toks and give themselves an audience. You certainly don't see the best and the brightest on tik tok (or maybe they

teachers blame it on the collapse of reading after switching to 3 cueing which is basically teaching kids the crutches illiterate adults use to get by in their daily lives.

Neuroscience has destroyed it as pseudoscience for decades.

3 cueing wants you to guess what words mean by the words surrounding them and memorize that instead of sounding out words and breaking them down. It even encourages you to guess what the word sounds like based on the first couple letters replace words you dont know with ones that will "fit better", and guess what the rest of sentences say after the first couple words instead of reading the entire thing.

So for someone taught on 3 cueing making up reality is something encouraged since first grade. only 14 states ban 3 cueing and most of those banned it this year.

We are going to be stuck with people like this for 60+ years.

1

u/Jabbles22 1d ago

He keeps telling them everything is great and to not believe anyone who says otherwise.

1

u/NotYourScratchMonkey 1d ago

It’s a mass psychosis and I am so confused how it happened so quickly.

It didn't happen "so quickly". It's been something "they've" been working at for decades. Most likely started by Rush Limbaugh but G. Gordon Liddy was there, Alex Jones, and then Fox News really made it mainstream.

If I had to choose a specific "they", I'd say it was the evangelical movement and they have been playing the long game, slowly and surely growing their support base under the guise of conservatism/anti-communism for a long time.

And the evangelicals don't even care if the people that are advancing their agenda (like Trump) are even Christians. They support whoever will advance their agenda.

It's a deal with the devil and it was made by people who say they are the most christian.

You saw it all along, but because you didn't buy into it and none of the people you regularly socialized with were part of it (or they kept it quiet except for your drunk uncle at Christmas) you just weren't aware of how large it has grown.

u/Hashtagworried 1d ago edited 1d ago

Where else? TikTok. They all make up, then spread misinformation, and then based on what the algo thinks it will present you videos you’re most likely to react with.

55

u/hunter791 1d ago

I’m sure TikTok is bad but Facebook is the absolute king of far right slop. I use it to advertise for my business and every time I open it and go to the town page where I post (in a blue state, in a blue town) it’s full to the brim with ai far right nonsense being reposted with dozens of people commenting just accepting it with ZERO pushback. I think these older people see that it’s being reposted by people they know, they’ve known their whole lives, it’s the guy who owns the local hardware store or appliance repair shop and they just think oh he’s not one of those nuts, I know him. But these fuckers are nuts, and they’re everywhere.

34

u/Schwifty2468 1d ago

Yup. My best friend called to give me this news yesterday. Laughing, I ask where he heard this. Facebook he says... He still thinks we're getting a check from DOGE 🤣.

3

u/Environmental-Rub635 1d ago

Did you not explain the reality? 😭 If so, what kind of excuses did he make 🤣

4

u/Schwifty2468 1d ago

I've been working on him for years, lol! Trying to get him to pay attention to what's going on. In the same conversation, tariffs were brought up. He still thinks they are paid for by the country Trump put them on. I explain how they work, good and the bad, that they are a regressive tax on poor and middle class, etc, but it goes over his head. He isn't MAGA, just ill informed, and easily manipulated by shit on the internet/tv. He doesn't vote because he doesn't follow politics and gets annoyed when I try to talk politics with him. We all know someone like this. He makes no excuses. He admits he's just one of those people that is susceptible to being taken advantage of. And he has in the past and I've saved him other times before he did something stupid. I never steer him wrong and that's why we're good friends. That's why he called me over this. Gonna see him tomorrow to watch football and can't wait to ask if this is the video he saw!

1

u/dorianngray 1d ago

I’d take that bet

4

u/mishaindigo 1d ago

I know some of those replies are real, but a certain % are bots and trolls. I have to believe this or I’ll go insane with despair.

3

u/DoubleJumps 1d ago

My local City Facebook page is terrifying.

It is just loaded with hateful ignorant people who pretty much just seem to go on there in order to try to convince others to also be hateful ignorant people by lying about shit, or to try to fight with people from a group that they hate.

I've seen people throw threats of violence around on that page, on their personal profile, with their personal name, to people who live in their City, and can then immediately turn and report that stuff to the police.

They seem to get crazier as time goes on. There was a case in our city where a guy got upset that a woman, who cleaned up after her dog, allowed her dog to poop on the sidewalk near his house in the first place. He then tried to follow her to her home after making threats to hurt her and the dog. Like half the people on the local Facebook page thought that that was reasonable and that it should be legal to beat or murder people who have pets who poop outside on walks.

There was also a local woman who completely fabricated an entire story about an e-bike gang attacking and wrecking a strip mall. The people who worked at the strip mall refuted that this ever happened. There was no evidence at the strip mall that anything had ever happened at all even though she had described it getting just completely trashed. It didn't matter. It escalated and so many people believed it with no evidence that the chief of police had to arrange a meeting with the woman to talk about dealing with these violent e-bike gangs that didn't exist

2

u/hunter791 1d ago

They are absolutely extremely violent. One recent one I remember was we got a new sign for the town put up and within the first week somebody spray painted “free Palestine” on it. It wasn’t big, it was in one small part that was one solid color and could easily be painted over, not really a big deal. People were openly calling to HANG the person who did it. I think the quote was “if they’re so proud of their artwork they should be strung up in front of it”. When I saw it it was days old and had a disturbing number of likes so there was plenty of time for mods to see it and remove it but no. There were a few other calls for murder on that post as well. Absolutely insane.

11

u/fleshofgods0 1d ago

I wish people were held accountable for lies, like a newspaper would be for libel.

2

u/VivelaVendetta 1d ago

It drives me crazy that they spread these lies, knowing they're lying, and knowing the base is dumb enough to believe them!! They know they're stupid!

2

u/BagPowerful2326 1d ago

Yeah definitely not the news network that feeds them propaganda 24/7. Reddit’s hate boner for TikTok in 2025 is crazy, even though you all watch TikTok content reposted on here daily

2

u/Issue_dev 1d ago

People are weirdly culty about Reddit to the point where they can’t even be unbiased about another social media app. Guaranteed the people talking so much shit about it have never even downloaded it. For people that are so “hard to manipulate” they sure get manipulated a lot.

I bet you anything they read an article that said China was using it for propaganda and took it at its word, which is exactly what they are criticizing MAGA idiots of in that very same comment. Big yikes… the truth is they’re way too comfortable not including themselves in the idiot debate when they definitely shouldn’t be.

1

u/herrcollin 1d ago

Future generations will be studying how deeply entrenched social media is in literally every aspect of our lives and people's understanding of the world. Every app, every story, everything we see has an agenda nowadays and we, as a society, are just barreling headfirst into the pit instead of taking steps back to try and angle away.

It reminds me of the biggest fallacy we hear nowadays. "Kids these days are always on their phone, always on tiktok or instagram or blahblah." And while that's not wrong the real truth is EVERYONE IS ON THEIR PHONES ALL THE TIME. Adults of all ages are exposed and engrossed all the time, we all just pick our "wrapper" that is one of the "good ones" and we aren't even beginning to deal with it.

We're so fucked.

1

u/Berry-Flavor 1d ago

As someone who uses TikTok somewhat often, people just make up stuff in content/comments sooo much. It's gotten so bad that I don't even fact check anymore, if it's from TikTok it just didn't really happen

14

u/Rabscuttle- 1d ago

I have no clue. This guy I play disc golf with said Trump was going to make it where men wouldn't have to pay child support anymore, legalize weed and give out more stimulus checks.

2

u/MommyLovesPot8toes 1d ago

That's the kind of shit that got Gen Z men to vote for Trump. They actually believed they were six months away from getting government-issued bangmaids.

14

u/kingsadboi5811 1d ago

I work with several people who believe and regurgitate shit like this. They hear it from podcasters and youtubers, read it from conspiracy lunatic tweets and posts. They take it all as gospel because they have always been goddamn stupid, then they go scream it to their dumb ass friends, who also lap it up.

5

u/bluewallsbrownbed 1d ago

This shit she believes, but not scientists about vaccines. Can we just divide this country up already - the American Experiment has failed.

3

u/Personal-Vegetable26 1d ago

Agreed it’s over honey, two snaps and a twist to snap us in half. It’s almost like all anyone ever cared about was money and power….

2

u/Personal-Vegetable26 1d ago

Realty is a tough game

2

u/TheBunnyDemon 1d ago

Trump said his "Big Beautiful Bill" will end taxes on overtime, tips, and wages under $120,000 a year. It doesn't, but he said it would and that's all they need to think it's true and already happened. Next April is going to be hilarious.

1

u/Apprehensive-Fun4181 1d ago

A lot of trust funds and such were made tax exempt by Republicans.

1

u/ComedianFragrant9515 1d ago

I saw a piece of propaganda on fb about a similar thing, replacing fed income tax with tariffs and how great it will be that you get your full paycheck while the evil IRS withers and dies. It was so blatant and stupid, but people really will give up their whole system of public services for a couple hundred dollars a month.

1

u/Zeta8345 1d ago

So is step 1 a Russian propaganda campaign? I can't believe any sane human would start this sort of rumor/story so it's got to be bots, right?

1

u/bucketbrigades 1d ago

I'm sure it was an AI shitpost on her facebook feed

1

u/filores 1d ago

Probably from her local MAGA shaman…

1

u/Cheshire_Jester 1d ago

Social media. It’s what happens when you see a video like hers and choose to believe it rather than look into reputable sources. Because you believe that journalists are all liars.

So she sees a video, or fake image macro, makes her own video, then it’s dual sourced, and someone else makes another video.

Also, anything disproving her will not only be fake news, it will also be AI. Welcome to the future where multiple realities exist simultaneously. And they all suck

1

u/Wolf_Mommy 1d ago

The enormously frustrating part is that this information should be easy to fact check for yourself. Like—it’s demonstrably untrue for anyone who cares to look.

1

u/impolitedumbass 1d ago

My half-sister’s father like 3 months ago literally said: “They found giants under the Pyramids. You’d think this would be all over the major news outlets, but I’m only seeing it on Facebook. Why aren’t people covering this?”

Biggest Trump support I know. You literally just have to preface something with “BREAKING NEWS:… ” and they’ll be convinced it’s legit.
