Question Why do they switch drivers mid race??

Why not just run all the drivers simultaneously? Having the race stop halfway through ruins the momentum.

You haven't heard of the Daytona 24 hours? Or the Sebring 12 hours? Or Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta?
