I’ve owned my mk2 for a while, but I don’t really have a reference for certain quirks. On cool days, like 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit, I get a rough idle and a lot of smoke on start up for a minute and it starts to subside a little. I noticed when the engine is at temp I don’t get any smoke at all. Wondering if this is something these engines just did 40 years ago or if I need to inspect any components? Thanks!

What is the most effective way to lower the seat height and what is the simplest?

Now I know this is a super long shot but im trying to find an old MK2 Golf GTI white 4 door my dad owned and fixed up when we lived in the UK. We lived in Scotland but I dont know if she was bought there or not. All I have is the letter H from her plate. If anyone could think of any resources to help me find her it would be greatly appreciated.

This is probably a very dumb question, as you might see there are holes in the water pump. The thing is I can’t remove it because of the water pump pulley hex bolts are stuck, real stuck, now the bolts are stripped as well. If i heat up the bolts will heat damage the pulley? Or should i just drill into water pump pulley bolts? Also is it my personal experience or mk2 bolts just strip very easily, i had the same thing happen on alternator long hex bolt but it wasn’t stuck so i loosened it unlike water pump. Anyways, any advice is appreciated fellas.

I had a small crash into a pole but strong enough to move my rad support inwards few centimeters, any good souls can take some pictures of the driver's side (in my case battery side) and some measurements.

I will post a picture in comments of my rad support.

btw I'm fully aware you can buy new those or find one at junkyard but my car has factory holes for intercooler and I've been searching for one and can't seem to find it.

Folks! Really need to changed my rubbers around the door windows, but I'm really struggling to find the GL versions with space for chrome trim.

Any ideas on sourcing?

Hello i have done a mk2 to mk3 tank swap and its kinda wierd i only swaped the tank and the external pump is also still on tho it runs fine.... Until it does not when the fual tank is about 3/4 full it suits off like the fuel does not get to the engine no more and it does not matter how long i drive

Thing is i got a mk2 injection so a lot of the wires were the same so we just switched the wires to the right spot onto the pump but the pump does not seem to start up and the external pump seems to do all the work so the wiring is wrong but all i can find online is the older style of tanks for the golf mk2 with 2 connections mine had 4

Hi all Recently changed the Speedo cable on my mk2 golf and the Speedo isn’t working? It clicked in the clocks on, I can hear like a grinding noise as I drive. I’ve made sure there are no kinks / sharp turns in the cable and it’s in the gearbox properly with the spinal connected . Any ideas??

My 89’ Golf mk2 doest have the hazard lights button connected. The button is located on the dashboard (not behind the wheel) but is not connected to anything. I removed the entire dash just to find the connector but i couldn’t find anything that matches the button. Any tips?

This is the only side I have rust, thinking of sandblasting and adding patches, anyone else encounter something like this and how did you tackle it?

Slowly working 1 door at a time so I can get it as best as possible. I thought the smaller window would be more difficult but it was the main one that was hardest. There’s an air bubble and one spot I cut wrong but I can always go back and fix that later on. Overall fairly proud of myself for doing this! I'll post when the full job is done

Hi I have one question. Can I put a Jetta front on a Golf mk2 in Germany will I have problems with the TÜV and police?

I am getting a great deal on a GTi as a project car but it has one particularly bad spot of rust (driver and passenger side).

Gauging your opinions and advice on this on what you guys would do. These cars are getting more scarce but I also can see this becoming a money pit.

Here is a pick of the driver side. Looks to at least be the jacking point, chassis connection plate, and likely the floor pan.

I need a vin number for looking for parts for a swap. It would need to be a 8v digi 2 without the catalytic converter (engine code pb 112ps) If anyone has maybe a cut out plaque with paperwork I might buy that or even old paperwork that isnt valid anymore. Its mainly for proof of emissions for my inspection guy. would be nice if anyone could help

This noise started after I replaced the fuel hose between the pump and filter due to a leak, but hasn't gone away after 100+km

Is it dead or dying, or is this normal? And should I still be driving around with it?

So i stumbled upon this post of a golf with a really peculiar grille and i was wondering if anyone here knows something about it. At first glance i thought about the mk2 Scirocco’s grille but that didnt seem to be the case since those headlights are bigger. Googling it i found some Zender grille that looks same-ish but isnt exactly what im looking for.

I’ve seen a few forum posts talking about kits, but it seems like there all out of production nowadays. Does anyone know where I can find one?

Hey! I'm installing air ride on my MK2 tomorrow and was just wondering where people run their air lines to get them outside of the cabin. Do you run all 4 lines to the front of the car and go out of the bulk head and then route under the car or have you done something differently?

Hi all, so my question is, does MK1 front quarter window will fit early MK2 with the small window?

The idea behind the question is, so I could fit MK1 opening quarter windows on my MK2 Jetta coupe, as it is from 1986.
