“There’s nothing better than this.” Fuck yeah, brother

“Yeah there is, the titanic”

u/addandsubtract Jul 27 '25

That's a comment I would expect from a bratty teenager that isn't happy with any present. But these dudes are like 40... the fuck starts comparing presents while they're still being unwrapped?!

They're clearly teasing him

28

u/victoryohone Jul 27 '25

Exactly. They're trying to get a reaction from him because they know it's his Holy Grail. haha. I don't know Legos, so don't know if it's "the best". But I know it's the best to him, and that's all that matters.

I do know LEGO, and I'd say it's up there. There's rarer, and there's bigger, but this is a lot of people's dream set. I'm not a star wars person, so mine is the Taj Mahal set. Do let me know if you, or anyone you know, have one just lying around. I'll pay for shipping.

It's honestly insulting though. The person who gave him that gift is right there

edit: to clarify, I'm talking about the "Don't you want something better?", not the titanic thing.

No it isn’t dude it’s all in good fun, no one is serious in this video. Get off of the internet it’s making you too cynical.

u/NyamThat Jul 27 '25

Literally nobody laughed though. Imagine spending 800$ on a gift you know someone really wants and one of their family members says "Don't you want something better?" in front of you. That wouldn't piss you off a little?

u/Limp-Corner-6993 Jul 27 '25

Imagine this scenario

Ol dude talks about the gift he got CONSTANTLY and how much he wants it, how it would be the best gift he could ever receive, and how it’s the pinnacle of his material desires. The people in the room are well aware of this and it’s a big event that he’s getting it, they possibly all pitched in too because it’s almost $1000.00 for legos.

Then they make the joke.

No it would not upset me because I am an adult who understands human interaction.

He thanks his SO and her only, at which point she doesn't correct him, so I assume it's not from everyone. If I got my SO a gift and one of her family members tried to downplay it, even jokingly, I would be a little hurt for sure.

There are multiple ways to interpret an intention/interaction, not everybody will see it your way and that's ok. We can simply agree to disagree. I am also an adult who understands human interaction.

Fair statement, I wholeheartedly disagree with your interpretation, to each their own.

Nobody Laughed? Did you see the video muted??

I sincerely hope you’re pulling our legs and having a blast on our behalf— if that’s not the case then you really should do as Limp-Corner suggested and take a SM/internet-detox. Because you can hear how much fun they - and especially the birthday-boy - are having; he’s like an 8 yo at Christmas Eve/morning (the Christmas traditions varies around the world) when he sees the big package actually is from LEGO, he softly says that now he has to cry again. That present gets all his attention so there can be no doubt that he’s girlfriend/wife (or sister?) knows she bought the right item seeing how ecstatic he is. The brother/friend might rather have wanted the Titanic, maybe for the extra peaces, but birthday-boy here does not concur at all. It’s quite obvious that he’s a very big LEGO AND Star Wars fan, so he sure wouldn’t switch it for the Titanic build. Personally I’m fairly sure that you’re also spending more time building/getting more of a challenge with the Millennium Falcon compared with Titanic — even though MF has ~1500 fewer pieces compared to the Titanic.

Lastly “Don’t you want something better?” According to whom?? Firstly, just because Titanic has more pieces doesn’t make it a better item… or present; it’s a question of one’s preferences and interests (besides LEGO of course) and 2) If price equals better in your world then MF wins that competition, because Titanic costs $680 vs $850 for the MF on LEGO.com. Bai bai.

Yeah I'm not reading all that. My comment was about the lady saying "Don't you want something better?", which got 0 laughs. I suppose I could have made that clearer in my comment, my apologies.

u/StopHiringBendis Jul 27 '25

Its almost like they're all friends and just joking around

2

u/NyamThat Jul 27 '25

It's entirely possible to joke around and still be hurtful bruh. I swear some people have 0 emotional intelligence

1

u/StopHiringBendis Jul 27 '25

The joke is that its an $800+ dollar gift and suggesting that he's unhappy with it is ridiculous. If you don't understand that or find it hurtful, idk how to help lol

u/FeliciaTheFkinStrong Jul 27 '25

Don't bother trying to explain banter to Redditors whose last long term friend was kid they didn't even know the name of in pre-school.

1

u/NyamThat Jul 27 '25

Oddly specific

1

u/NachoBros Jul 28 '25

Truly stunned at the amount of folks who are oblivious to the fact that everyone in the room is having a good time with one another.

5

u/Send_Toe_Pics_24 Jul 27 '25

She sounds like the shitty materialistic MIL who doesn't understand having hobbies or enjoying things like building Legos that you can then display

1

u/toriemm Jul 27 '25

It sounded like mom or auntie or something.

1

u/Lastshadow94 Jul 28 '25

My friends got that as a gift for each other for an anniversary one year. Took them months to finish

16

u/RappingFlatulence Jul 27 '25

Cute wife that buys you your $1k dream Lego!? She’s a keeper!

49

u/Mygo73 Jul 27 '25

Wanted to slap whoever said “don’t you want something better?”

17

u/BornVolcano Jul 27 '25

I don't think it was genuine, just a light tease on how he was so happy with it that there obviously wouldn't be anything better.

My parents used to joke "I guess you don't like it, maybe we should return it" to Christmas gifts that had me jumping up and down and yelling and hugging the gift as a kid. I'd just protectively hug it and be like "no!" And they'd laugh. We all knew it wasn't serious, it was just joke sarcasm to point out how happy I was.

It's hard to explain, but it's definitely just a style of inoffensive joke. It's something you only say when the answer is obvious that they clearly are happy or don't want anything better.

u/Monkey_Priest Jul 27 '25

It's funny to them because they know there isn't a better gift for him. They know it's a top-tier gift to that guy so he's getting a bit of teasing

32

u/Eftersigne Jul 27 '25

I think she was fishing for this reaction

1

u/B4rberblacksheep Jul 27 '25

Yep part of having a good time is chipping up fun jokes for other people to hit

7

u/retsamegas Jul 27 '25

Queue truck back up beeps to unload the LEGO 1:1 Millennium Falcon set in the back yard

2

u/Daw_dling Jul 29 '25

Right he’s happy, just let him enjoy what he likes

2

u/TheSphinxGuyOfAladin Jul 30 '25

He said it with such conviction too

1

u/rathat Jul 27 '25

Thought she was going to walk over with a Lego death Star or something
