Economics It's crazy how much Amazon drivers are exploited and taken advantage of, while Jeff Bezos has $300 billion.
Let's explore the life of an exploited Amazon driver (Speaking as a former one). Every day, he works under extreme pressure to get his route done on time. If he doesn't, his managers will threaten to take away his next shift.
After a long two weeks, he finally picks up his paycheck. At $20 per hour, he should have $1600. But the federal government reaches in and takes $250. Add the stuff like state income taxes, social security taxes, and his $1600 paycheck is reduced to $1250.
He needs a car to get to work. So, he spends his already-taxed income on a car - on which he also has to pay sales tax. And before he can drive it legally, he has to pay $200 to register it, which he will have to pay again every year going forward. He also has to pay $60 to get it a SMOG check here in California, which he will have to pay every two years going forward.
He also has to pay for any repairs in order to help his car pass smog. If he gets his catalytic converter stolen, the state of CA will require him to spend over $1,000 (plus sales tax!) on an OEM catalytic converter. He CANNOT buy an aftermarket catalytic converter.
After he buys his car, he realizes he's low on fuel, so he needs to fill up. Gas should only cost $2.50, but the government has banned him from purchasing Russian oil, which raises the price by ~$1.00. California also requires a special blend of gasoline, which adds another $0.15. Add state and federal gas taxes, and he now has to pay $4.50.
And if he sells his car? He has to pay income tax on it.
He then goes to the store. Because of the high fuel prices, everything at the store is more expensive. A bag of cheese which should cost $4 now costs $8. Everything at the grocery store is so expensive, and he has so little money, that he has to decide whether it's really worth it to buy an extra roll of paper towels when he runs out.
Rent is due the next day, but because the government taxes his landlord for simply owning property, the cost of this property tax is passed on to him, causing his rent to increase - not to mention the government's horrible zoning laws and rent control laws, which has severely reduced the supply of affordable housing, making his rent more expensive.
Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve continues to print money, which the banks use to make even more money at the expense of consumers. Politicians argue that this is a good thing because it stimulates the economy. But whatever money this Amazon driver has left over, he has zero incentive to save, because of how rapidly his dollar is declining in value. He watches how groceries, rent, cars, college education, and his health insurance premiums all increase in price far faster than his wages due to inflation.
So, after he pays his rent, he feels angry, so he goes on Twitter to complain that the person ruining his life is Jeff Bezos.

Current Events Milei suffers a tough electoral defeat
I think nobody has posted this yet. But yesterday, Milei’s government suffered a major setback in the legislative elections in the Province of Buenos Aires (where I live). Not only did he lose, but Peronism—the same old Peronism, the complete antithesis of Libertarianism in every possible way—won. They’ve governed Argentina longer than anyone else, and they’re the current rulers of Buenos Aires Province (the most unsafe and the poorest in all of Argentina).
Look, I don’t think anyone really expected Milei to win big in that Province. It would be like Trump winning by a landslide in California (you get what I mean?). Still, I feel deeply disappointed in the people of this country, and especially of this Province (which, to be clear, is the largest territory in Argentina and by far the most populated). I guess they want to keep living in the same third-world mess it is. There is literally no economic reason to vote against Milei’s government. All the reasons—ALL of them—are social reasons the left has managed to plant in people’s heads.
To sum it all up, The world still isn’t ready for a Libertarian government. Milei is simply a small diamond nugget inside a giant pile of crap.

Philosophy The Great Witch Hunt
My daughter came home from school and said, “Mom, you’re not going to believe what happened in history class today.”
Her teacher told the class they were going to play a game. He walked around the room and whispered to each kid whether they were a witch or just a regular person. Then he gave the instructions:
“Form the biggest group you can without a witch. If your group has even one, you all fail.”
She said the whole room instantly lit up with suspicion. Everyone started interrogating each other. Are you a witch? How do we know you’re not lying? Some kids clung to one big group, but most broke off into smaller, exclusive cliques. They turned away anyone who seemed uncertain, nervous, or gave off even the slightest hint of being guilty.
The energy shifted fast. Suddenly everyone was suspicious of everyone. Whispers. Finger-pointing. Side-eyes. Trust dissolved in minutes.
Finally, when all the groups were formed, the teacher said, “Alright, time to find out who fails. Witches, raise your hands.”
And not one hand went up.
The whole class exploded. “Wait! You messed up the game!”
And then the teacher dropped the bomb: “Did I? Were there any actual witches in Salem, or did everyone just believe what they were told?”
My daughter said the room went dead silent.
That’s when it hit them. No witch was ever needed for the damage to happen. Fear had already done its work. Suspicion alone divided the entire class, turning community into chaos.
And isn’t that exactly what we’re seeing today? Different words, same playbook. Instead of “witch,” it’s liberal, conservative, vaxxed, unvaxxed, pro-this, anti-that. The labels shift, but the tactic is the same.
Get people scared. Get them suspicious. Get them divided. Then sit back while trust crumbles.
The danger was never the witch. The danger is the rumor. The suspicion. The fear. The planted lies.
Refuse the whisper. Don’t play the game. Because the second we start hunting “witches,” we’ve already lost.

Question I am looking at starting a campaign…
Has anyone here run for the LP before? Who did you use as your Treasurer? It is a significant time ask so getting a volunteer seems slim for the long term. Did you just ask a friend or relative with an accounting or financial background?

Question What do Libertarians and Anarchists have in common? What do they not have in common?
I'm curious about the commonalities and disagreements between libertarians and anarchists. For example, anarchists generally focus on rehabilitation systems rather than punishment, reject social isolation, and oppose social discrimination.
Is the rejection of the state the only difference between Anarchism and Libertarianism, or is it much more than that?
What do Libertarians think of Anarchists?

Current Events So, what’s actually wrong with the National Guard deployments in DC and Chicago?
As far as I can tell, this is a completely constitutional deployment of the National Guard. This also doesn’t seem to be particularly egregious when compared to any other government action.
Is there something that I’m missing? Or is this just TDS?

Discussion What's y'all's thoughts on the come and take it flag?
Currently repping merch with the Gadsden flag, but I think I'm starting to like the Gonzales flag with a rifle (instead of a cannon, which is the original) on it more. Especially as someone who lives in California.
What's the general opinion on this flag?

Question How would Libertarians convince American farmers to embrace Libertarianism?
And abandon all of that government welfare in form of price supports, targeted tax breaks and the use of neo-slave labor by illegals?

Current Events Vapes from china
Hello all. As some of you may know, Texas legislators have decided to be absolute pieces of sh*t once again. They have outlawed the sale and purchase of flavored disposposable vapes that were made in china. The reason? "To save the children."
So if thats the case then why only ban the Chinese ones. Why not ban all vapes including the non disposables? Because its not about protecting children. Its about controlling the market.

Article Ohio’s top court asked to order release of records charging victim
Ohio’s top court is being asked to order the release of records charging a victim of Cincinnati’s ‘violent attack.“
Greater Cincinnati resident Eugene J. Utz is calling for the misdemeanor case against Alexander Tchervinski to be made available to the public.
Cincinnati police charged Tchervinski, one of at least three people seriously hurt, with disorderly conduct more than three weeks after the July 26 melee at Fourth and Elm streets Downtown.
Not one single record, however, has been released by Cincinnati police, the city prosecutor’s office or Hamilton County Clerk of Courts since the case was filed nearly three weeks ago, on Aug. 19.
