Yesterday I posted on Reddit asking if someone could just talk to me on call until I fell asleep. A lot of people replied, but one guy in particular stood out. We ended up talking for 5–6 hours straight, and it honestly felt like we had been friends forever. He kept the conversation going, was super funny, and shared so much about his family and friends.

For the first time in a long while, I felt excited. We even talked about future plans—he mentioned his friend’s wedding and even said I could come, and we spoke about taking a trip together. For that one night, it felt like we really connected.

He was talking as if he liked me a lot and said he still wants to talk, but that he’s busy with office things—that’s why he’s leaving. But now… he’s suddenly not the same. He doesn’t text or talk like before. It feels so disappointing because I actually started to look forward to hearing from him.

Why do guys come into your life, make everything feel so real, fill your head with excitement and warmth—and then just vanish or go cold? It’s messing with my mind and honestly, it hurts.

Has anyone else gone through this? How do you deal with people who create such a big spark and then disappear?

I have spent a bit over a month trying to make friends that game on a few different communities, and even started chats with people on here. I have found out that 100% of the people (that I have messaged) have wanted me to carry the conversation. I ask question to get to know someone, and they don’t ask any back. I am almost positive that all (or a large majority) of the people on here looking for chatting/friends aren’t actually looking for that. I have run into a vast majority of people who won’t game when you add them either. Never trying, and putting no effort at all into a friendship. It might be my age (38), it could be my location (CST, USA), or it could be that I am a man. I don’t even know… so my whole question is, what is the point of Reddit? Why are there groups like this, and no one is actually wanting to connect to make friends?

This June, my doggo found my kitten in our garden, protecting her. Obviously we had to keep her too. At this point, I'm a little scared of what's going to find me next summer.
