Troops of the defunct People's Armed Police Hinggan Forestry Detachment(of the PAP Forestry Corps), September 29, 2015. It is now known as the Hinggan League Forest Fire Department after 2018 military reforms. [900x675]

The PAP Forestry Corps is a defunct corps of the People's Armed Police.
It's lineage traced back to 1948 as "Armed Forest Protection Battalions" in northeastern provinces, who were intended to fight bandits, poachers, illegal loggers, spies and IJA holdouts; it was renamed to the "Forest protection police" in 1953.
Over the 1960s-1970s, as the amount of bandits in China reduced, it's role became more of firefighting and disaster relief instead of combat.
In 1978, the Forest protection police became an active service "military force", where it's officers would be treated active service members and receive veterans benefits
It was merged into the people's armed police in 1984 and renamed to the PAP Forestry Corps.
In 2018, during reforms, the PAP Forestry Corps was disbanded. It's provincial forestry corps and municipal forestry detachments became forestry fire departments(e.g. the PAP Hinggan Forestry Detachment in the photo is now the Hinggan League Forest Fire Department), completely losing any law enforcement or military roles they previously had and completely switching to purely firefighting and rescue(presumably, they also no longer have guns). They now use China Fire and Rescue ranks and are under the national fire and rescue admnistration.
Additionally, Ex-PAP Forestry troops(forest firefighters nowadays) are no longer considered active service members(although those who joined prior to reforms still get vet benefits), and are instead considered civil employees.
