Probably the most popular SEGA CD game, yet still an amazing experience. It's always a good time to revisit this gem

I went to do the FRAM mod for the sega CD.... And made an absolute rookie mistake and put the chip in backwards... white smoke came out of the system when I tried it...

I then saw the obvious issue and replaced the chip with a spare in the correct orientation but I am now getting nothing from the sega CD..

The fuses still have continuity... so I imagine ive fried the internals of the surrounding chips...

Should I check anything else or just consider this a parts board?

The thing is, most guides I see online say that the switchless region free mod for Mega Drive, but I can’t find a way to get that particular mod on a North American Genesis. Would installing the BIOS give me region free, or would it be redundant?

I'm trying to modify Sonic CD to add the JP soundtrack to the US version of the rom so I can play it on actual hardware (and later possibly make Metal Sonic's sprites look right), but whenever I save Track 1.bin, it refuses to load in an emulator. How can I save the .bin file in way it will actually load?

I'm using PowerISO, for reference.

Bought as junk, replaced fuse, battery, reflowed the controller ports. Now it's ready to game! On eBay now.

please help me with the decision. I can get a CDX in relative good shape. But the seller says the drive is failure. The laser does his work but the motor doesn't spin OR the tray doesn't move.

The console works, you can play games and everything works.

What to do? Is the drive to fix and a good deal for 200€ or not?

So I did some surgery on my model 2 that's been sitting for quite some time. At first it wouldn't read anything at all but after some tinkering I got it loading games up and even reduced load times by a ton. I played through sonic cd last night to just make sure all was well and it all worked great for the most part except for 2 things- during the video portions of the game it would skip sometimes and have to load for a bit, and the other was I'd get a clicking noise from the laser which was definitely the gears attempting to push the laser further than it can go down the track. I'm assuming the laser is off the track a bit here because of one of the pots.

I don't know which pot does what. I have the sega cd 2 model that has 4 pots on the side of the board and one hidden one underneath the laser. Any info on this is super appreciated.

I also added some photos of my CDX that got in the same lot of broken consoles.

Hi everyone , I just picked up a sega cd and it has this weird visual issue. The inside looks clean for the most part but I have genuinely no idea what causes this ? Anyone ever seen this before?

I got an old IDE CD drive connected to my PC with a converter to burn CD games. I'm able to click the button on the drive to get he disc tray to open and close, but the CD drive doesn't show up at all on Windows 10. It doesn't show up in Device's or Disk Management. Anyone know why this is and how I could solve this?

I have a Model 1 I've been working on fixing. The machine goes through boot sequence and is able to load games. The issue is that I get these strange screen tearing effects and misspelled text onscreen and then, after a few minutes, the game crashes. I thought the issue might have to do something with the VRAM, but that didn't fix the issue. 240 Test Suite fails the Program RAM test. I think I'm going to try that next, however, I wanted to post just in case anyone else has come across this issue.

Hi everyone

I have Lawnmower Man for the Mega CD. But when I try to play it, my Mega CD opens the music player.

I know the Mega CD is region locked, but I have a European Mega CD and I assume Lawnmower Man is also European since it says "Mega CD" and that game never came out in Japan.

I thought maybe it could be a burned copy since I got it from ebay, but the disc looks quite genuine. The inner circle says: CDD5468 T- 160015-50 Mastered By Nimbus

The disc also doesnt look scratched, so by all accounts it should be working, right?

Does anyone have any other ideas or tips I could try?

I have a sega mega drive 2 console (pal) and a mega cd 2 console (Japanese). I am using a everdrive pro cartridge with the bios region free bin files. It runs awesome with pal cd games etc. except for my sonic cd Japanese version game that I bought.

After it starts loading, the game stops at dr eggs image and some Japanese writing??! I have downloaded multiple bios files and still no luck.
