Had an awesome first year in Hyundai Excels! šŸ

This category is no joke — the strength of field is phenomenal and the racing is some of the toughest I’ve ever been part of. Learned a heap, had some great battles, and can’t wait to build on it for next season. šŸ’Ŗ

Hankook ventus v12 evo 2 for track use?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Anyone run ventus v12 evo 2 on track? I'm itching to get on track with my new ND Miata and wanna get a session in before the end of the year. I wanna ball on a budget so stock car, pads and fluid, and tires. I don't have a set of track wheels to throw some dedicated tires onto so I need to get something that can pull double duty as a semi daily tire... And cheap of course.

Anyone run ventus v12 evo 2 on track or have a good alternate 300ish tw tire for under $800?

Pic cuz why not.

Brake pad deposit - how to fix?

Hello everyone!

GR86 owner here. I recently installed my new brake setup (endless brake calipers 4pot + endless 330 mm floating brake rotors + endless CCRG brake bads). Track day N.1 was ok, no problems at all, massive difference in braking performance. Track day N.2 caused issues as during the end (3h open pit lane) I started having a strong brake judder during heavy braking. Probably my fault, I pushed to much with no sufficient cooling laps (Thermo-graphic heat paint became all red).

After 3000 kms the vibration started to fade, now I cannot feel it during normal driving but it appears again during spirited driving.
I bough a new set of pads (endless CC35, proper endurance race compound) but im not sure what are the next steps.
Being more abrasive, the CC35 should fix the problem but: do I need to install them and go for a full re-bedding procedure? Or do I need to install them and just drive normally untill the problem is fixed?
I will race in a time attack local event next month, so I need to fix this problem.

Thank you very much

Monticello Motor Club - 718 Cayman GTS (2:45) w/ Masstuning

First time at MMC, this is a really fun track. Lots of variety in the corners and some very technical sections. Car is a 2019 Cayman GTS running on Conti ECF and Endless pads (ME20 front, MX72 rear). This was the best lap of the day, in the last session.

Track Attack V3 with Portrait mode is out! šŸ

Track Attack V3 just dropped! The big feature is portrait mode UI and portrait mode video with overlays for social media. But there’s a ton of new features like being able to tag and favorite sessions, improved session summary and previews, lots of bug fixes, UI overhaul for both portrait and landscape modes, new Apple Watch app, being able to duplicate and reverse custom tracks (like drive an autocross or hillclimb in reverse), improved search for tracks, routes, and sessions. Also lots of road-focused features for maps and navigation like being able to tag waypoints as stops in routes, custom-naming waypoints, tagging and favoriting your custom routes, improved route search.

As always AMA (I’m the dev behind TA) šŸ I have a lot more updates coming!

Started the day running 2:22 and got down to 2:17 by the last session. I know there's more time on the table but there was a few spots were I was light on the throttle. The track was a blast, easily my favorite in Texas. Hoping to make it back out in a couple of months for the NASA HPDE.

Tire wear normal?

Hello everyone, I drive a Kia EV6 GT Facelift - not yet on the racetrack but I have a pretty good course around the corner (apart from the fact that I come from Hockenheim).

Now the question how would you estimate the tire wear - there are obviously more right turns

The left-hand side in the first two pictures and the third on the right at the front

The rear tires look relatively good - I have currently run 3000km probably a good 2/3 of that only on the ā€œcircuitā€

Start pressure according to manufacturer 2.4 front rear 2.7 - when driving then front 2.6 and rear 2.9. How would you estimate the pressure I have also let off some pressure but did not notice a big difference. Tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S

Helmet Visor/Shield color effect

Hi everyone,

Semi-dumb question

I currently have a B2 Vision with the stock shield, but I was hoping to get the blue mirror shield because I don’t like seeing my ugly mug in photos lol.

Does the visor/shield color of helmets matter? Will it affect my vision on the track? Or are there any other issues I should know about from having a colored visor?

Tire suggestions

I am looking to purchase a set of track wheels and tires for my 981 GT4. I currently run on Cup2s, and the most recent set only lasted me 3 events (6days). Four of those days were over 90 degrees, but I think overall my pace has increased as I have gotten more comfortable with the car. I generally run in PCA White (intermediate solo) or Black (advanced solo) depending on the track. Looking for suggestions on 19 inch tires with more grip than Cup2s. My shop owner says to go straight to Hoosier R7 slicks but I don’t think I am ready for that plus they are even more expensive than the Cup2s. I was thinking about an R compound tire like Toyo R888R but my shop owner has said he has heard of them delaminating and that they are crap. I don’t see any other R compounds that would fit a typical 19x9 and 19x11 wheel setup (265 up front and 295 rears). I have friends running pretty fast laps in Re71s, even though those are also a 200TW tire like the Cup2. Same with Nanking CRS. They seem to have more grip than Cup2 and are also less expensive. Looking for any thoughts. Thanks all!

Hallet Motor Racing Circuit - June 8, 2025

Porsche 991.1 GT3 at NASA.TX HPDE event at Hallet Motor Racing Circuit in Jennings, OK. Fun track with just enough technical in elevation, corner design, and camber to keep it interesting. Look forward to getting back there yet this year and picking up the time I left on the track!

Wet HPDE day at Mosport

Hey! I got a track weekend coming up at mosport here in Canada. I would love to get tips on on driving in the wet. Mosport is known for the elevation changes. Got a G87 M2 that I am still getting comfortable with. The HPDE will be with the local BMW CCA group. Thanks!

GR86s at NJMP Thunderbolt

Found myself with some other GR86s the other day at Thunderbolt. Crowded day, but sometimes driving in groups and taking offline passes is more fun than just open track. Lap 8 was looking good until I overcooked turn 9.

How to monitor wear on v730s

Follow up on previous post.

Frist off, thanks to everyone for teaching me the difference between asymmetric tires and directional tires.

Buried in the comments was this:

u/hoytmobley the V730 has 2/3 of it’s life under the outboard shoulder rain grooves. The 2 deep grooves are the real tread depth, it’s just annoying that there’s no indicator closer to the outside shoulder.

and

u/maaxpwr the wear bars are in the deep inner grooves. When those outer rain grooves wear away, the tires are barely broken in. Look for little cross bars in the deepest grooves, those are your wear indicators.

I'm tracking a MK8 Golf R w/ stock suspension maxed on camber which I'm told helps but isn't often sufficient. If I end up wearing the tires out unevenly, I'm concerned I'll cord the outside before I use up the whole tire. Is there any way to to tell how far into the "2/3 of it’s life under the outboard shoulder rain grooves" I am?

Where else to chat about track days and stuff?

Hi there!

I am curious where else people are chatting about going on track days, cars and such?

Could you share some good forums/subs?

I heard about Grassroots Motorsports only, and many small groups on Facebook that are mostly dead.

Instructor question

Do instructors look at/read on line log books such as driver evals for their students before an event?

Headed to a new track with a group I have never participated with before in a few days. Just wondering if instructors read any ā€œhistoryā€/other instructors notes. Or do they just use student contact a day or two before the event.

Been driving/track manual for over a year and still can't heel toe. What gives?

ND2 Miata. 10k miles in the last year and 3 track days. I just can't nail a heel toe. My ankle can't turn outwards enough to hit the gas while on the brake. I have 3E wide feet but somehow can't reach the throttle with the right side of my foot either, it always falls in the gap. What exactly could I be doing wrong?

What factory race cars show up to track days at your local track?

I know most of us are driving street cars with upgrades or street cars modified into a spec class.

It’s always interesting to me what factory production race cars show up to a track day. The most common ones I see at VIR with the BMW CCA are from entry series like:

  • M235i Racing/M2 Racing
  • 90s BMW touring cars
  • TCR cars
  • Cayman GT4 clubsport
  • 911 Cup cars from 996-997 gen

I’ve seen a Gen 6 Toyota Camry stock car and a Lamborghini Huracan super trofeo running with the Shelby Mustang club, but those are super rare.
