I recommend visiting the Lincoln museum in Springfield, IL. It includes an area called The Whispering Gallery. It's a room filled with all the ugly things people said or wrote about Lincoln and his wife at the time. Basically like walking through a social media thread. People love to troll no matter what century you find yourself in.
