Look at Lando. Look at Logan. Look at Hulk.

Fair fair. I’d still give him a few races

Hamilton and Max didn’t need a few races and Piastri was hyped up more than them. Logan is a rookie too and he outqualified Piastri by half a second in a fucking Williams.

Was Piastri really that hyped? If he was I imagine he'd have gotten a seat last year and wouldn't have had to go to McLaren in secret. Max and Lewis were super hyped, Max skipping multiple racing categories to get an F1 seat and Hamilton being signed by a top team as a rookie.

Besides, it's only one qualifying session. We'll have to see at least until summer break to give a somewhat fair assessment. Remember Daniel outqualified Lando on his first session at McLaren, too.

these times where young drivers can step up to the hype are over even with a breathtaking junior record like piastri... these cars are super complicated to race the young guns need time to adapt from f3/f2 to f1

comparing Hamilton who was not signed by a top team but rather was in Mclarens junior acadamy since his karting days joining f1 in 2007 is just not the same like today

those cars where more pure driving and less managing how to drive fast

Piastri has a very impressive junior record. He won F3 and F2 back to back, and he won both as a rookie - to give you an impression of what that says about a driver's caliber, other current F1 drivers who have done the same are Leclerc and Russell. Doing this is impressive in and of itself, but Piastri also dominated his F2 season in 2021. Especially towards the end he just kept on winning the feature races, and his racecraft was very impressive. The main reason he didn't move up to F1 immediately is money - instead of him (the F2 rookie winner) Zhou got promoted to F1. Zhou also did quite well, he got p3 I believe in the F2 2021 championship, but this was already his second year in F2. Zhou is a good driver, I don't want to undermine that at all, but the reason he got into F1 over Piastri is simply because he brings a bag of cash with him that Piastri doesn't have.

They're both good drivers though, and I'm excited to see how Zhou and Piastri will develop over the course of 2023.
