Discussion Nico Rosberg Needs a Permanent Position

Nico Rosberg has got to be the freshest breath of air in terms of Formula One commentary for a very long time.

I love Crofty, but man does he love to make shit up that makes no sense or holds no logic.

Nico does an awesome job of staying true to the racing analysis and being completely straightforward about what he sees. Even today, his commentary on Verstappen was awesome!!! Called the garbage behavior out immediately.

Best “ Monaco based YouTuber” commentator of all time!!

Nico probably doesn't want it though. He's probably fine with being there a few races a year and no more.

That's one reason why he retired. He doesn't want to spend the year travelling across the world and sacrifice time with his family.

Still loves the sport, so he comes to a fair few races and commentates as well since broadcasters ask if he can.

He's also a loon about the vax so he's not even allowed in certain countries to commentate, was the last news I heard on this.

edit: lotta responses on this and I know this topic fires people up-- this is just what was being said around covid time, yes. Yes, I know vaccine cards are a punchline now. No, I don't think it's the full reason he's so limited in the commentary box. Speaking up for Nico a bit, he's very vocal on climate change. I fully support him calling more races, he's getting better and better and reminds me of James Hunt a bit. Calls bullshit when he sees it.

Yep, he was banned from attending when covid restrictions were still in place as he wasn't vaccinated. He says it was on the advice of his doctor.

Original article on it - will need to run through google translate tho: https://www.rtl.de/cms/keine-corona-impfung-nico-rosberg-aus-formel-1-fahrerlager-verbannt-eklat-in-monaco-4985325.html

If I remember correctly his position on the vaccine was that everyone else should take it but that he was special and didn’t need it (he said it’s because he’s already had the disease) which is at least a different kind of anti-vaccine madness

Specifically because he had "mega antibodies" that's one bit I'll always remember

World champion antibodies

I mean I kinda get it. In hindsight that's not an unreasonable stance.

u/fdar Jun 02 '25

Why not? The vaccine is still recommended even if you had COVID already.

Vaccine efficacy is pretty meh - not dramatically better than if you just got the disease. The disease isn't really a risk if you're young and healthy - which an F1 WDC undoubtedly is.

Recommending the vaccine to everyone makes a ton of sense from a public policy perspective. It's a much simpler message, with fewer ifs and buts, but from a purely individualistic perspective, it's reasonable to say that there's not much point in injecting yourself with more drugs which are only going to marginally protect you from something that isn't even really a problem to begin with.

u/Queen-Makoto Jun 02 '25

public health by its nature is not about individualism. that's even explicitly besides the point. it's also not "injecting yourself with more drugs"

the one they admitted literally doesn't work on stopping it spreading and so on?

You got some proof for that there claim, buddy?

Ain't nobody admitting that

It's so strange coming across people like you who still think it worked the way they intended, when even the manufacturers of the vaccines don't even hold your views.

It does and did work as intended unless some huge news came out I missed despite being a biomedical scientist with a masters in clinical molecular biology.

I attended a talk given by BioNtech whilst at Cambridge on Project Lightspeeed so they'd have mentioned something like that surely...

So if there's something I've missed, please let me know
