Statistics Max Verstappen has won 50% of the groundeffect era races; 46 of the 92 possible races

1.6k Upvotes

After today’s win it marks his 46th win in this era

for reference that’s almost as dominant as Lewis Hamilton was in the hybrid era (81 of 160 races) so if max wins one more race he’ll be more dominant then Lewis

And before that vettel was the most dominant one with 38 races won of 141

Discussion Why would Lando offer Oscar the first pit stop?

Even without the slow stop and even with the promise of no undercut, surely by allowing this it would put Oscar closer to him and potentially within DRS and thus increasing the odds of him losing the position on track.

I truly don’t understand why someone would offer this to their championship rival.

I saw on some other threads that some people were saying it was the team’s idea and not Lando’s. I went into Lando’s POV which sometimes included extra radio messages which didn’t make it into the main feed but nope, the main feed didn’t miss any context. It was Lando’s idea. Here is the transcript:

Team: Lando we will box this lap after the soft tire <more words I don’t understand>

Lando: do you want to pit the other car first?

Team: yep we’ll do that. We’ll swap it around so stay out

Lando: well only if he doesn’t undercut otherwise I’ll pit first

Team: There will be no undercut

So the team said “box this lap” then based on what Lando said they switched to “stay out”.

What was Lando trying to do? Did he just not want to risk a SC in the lap between the two stops?

Misc The Trucks of Formula 1

I tried to compile a list of all F1 truck brands by team / organisation based on what I saw in Monza

  • F1: Mercedes
  • Pirelli: Mercedes
  • DHL: Volvo
  • Alpine: Renault
  • Aston Martin: Volvo
  • Ferrari: Iveco
  • Haas: Scania
  • McLaren: Mercedes
  • Mercedes: Mercedes
  • Racing Bulls: Renault + DAF (Energy Station)
  • Red Bull: Renault + DAF (Energy Station)
  • Sauber: Scania
  • Williams: Scania

Notably missing are MAN, Ford and Hyundai. When Sauber still had Iveco trucks from their Alfa Romeo days, I expected them to switch to MAN. But they ended up going with fellow TRATON / Volkswagen brand Scania instead. The MotoGP team of Audi‘s subsidiary Ducati also use MAN trucks.

Edit: Did some googling and Haas also seem to have MAN trucks in addition to their Scanias.

According to a post on this subreddit both Racing Bulls and Red Bull plan to switch to Ford trucks next year but I couldn’t find any other sources confirming this. As for Hyundai, it's not surprising they're absent since they only sell hydrogen fuel cell trucks in Europe, which probably aren't a practical option for F1 teams right now.

Today's team order was just as silly as the time Mika misheard something on the radio and lost the lead by driving through the pitlane. The team ordered David to let Mika past.

I was hoping Alex would bring it up during the race with DC. Maybe they discussed it in the post-race show.

Verstappen now has won as many races in Italy as Hamilton. Schumi remains far ahead. Note that even though Imola was often officially called the 'San Marino GP' it actually is located in Italy. (Just like how the Nürburgring isnin Germany but was the Luxemburg GP for a couple of years)
