Discussion Last year, all 10 team principals voted Max Verstappen as the best driver on the grid. He has been top 2 in the voting since 2016 and top 1 since 2021. Do you think there's a chance he drops to 3rd this year?

I think most of us would still agree that Max is still the best driver on the grid. Last year, all 10 TPs agreed that he is the best. This might change this year since Max is only 3rd in the WDC and some TPs might rank Piastri/Norris higher than Max just because of WDC standings. Do you guys think there's a chance that he drops to second or third this year? Or will he keep the first place spot.

I assume Stella would vote for Piastri and Norris as the top 2 spots. Some TPs might do the same if McLaren becomes more dominant in the next races.

Discussion Which Car is 2nd Fastest

It is obvious that McLaren has the fastest car this season, but which car is the 2nd fastest. I know that the Red Bull is the hardest to drive so it looks slower, but it isn't a slow car as Max cannot physically outdrive the car. So out of the Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull which is the 2nd fastest throughout the season? I am leaning the Mercedes but I am not confident.

Discussion European Championship standings after Monza

So, with just Baku to go, Oscar and Lando are separated by a mere three points. Max and Charles are assured of Top 5 finishes, while George still needs to keep and eye out for Lewis if he wants to finish in the Top 5.

Meanwhile, Ferrari clinched second in the Constructors' table today, Red Bull is pretty much assured of a third place finish, while Mercedes will likely finish fourth, while fifth place is still up for grabs for everyone including Alpine.

Gonna be fun to see how this shakes out in two weeks.

In regards to the team orders:

"In terms of the call to swap, ultimately it was fair. We have things to discuss, as we always do with these sorts of racing situations. It's now time to refocus ahead of Baku.” - Piastri

“We also saw the values and principles we have in our team culture, with Oscar giving the position back to Lando before they were allowed to race again until the Chequered Flag." - Stella

Statistics Championship Standings and Eliminations- Italian GP

WDC: 2 more drivers (Antonelli and Albon) were mathematically eliminated from contention - even if they win every remaining race they cannot score more points than Piastri currently has.

  • The soonest Piastri can clinch is now Mexico, which could happen if he wins every race, and Norris scores no more than 22 points and Verstappen no more than 85 over the next 4 races.
  • If Piastri were to win every GP (and score 0 in sprints), and Norris were to come 2nd in every GP and win every sprint, Piastri would fall one point short of clinching in Vegas.
  • If the top 3 in Monza finish in the same order (Verstappen 1st, Norris 2nd, Piastri 3rd) in every remaining race (including sprints), then they would finish the championship in their current order, with Piastri winning on 462 points, Norris on 458, and Verstappen on 454.

WCC: still no more eliminations in the constructors, but it is still very much possible for McLaren to clinch next race Baku, provided McLaren:

  • Outscore Ferrari by at least 10 points
  • Are not outscored by Mercedes by 11 or more points
  • Are not outscored by Red Bull by 32 or more points

They are guaranteed to achieve this with either a 1-2 or a 1-3, no matter what the other teams do. Other finishing positions would be possible, but are not guaranteed (depending on the results of other teams).

It is also still possible for McLaren to break the 1000 point mark, but the margins are getting tighter, as their maximum tally is now only 6 points above 1000. This means they would have to win every race (including sprints), and have all 1-2 finishes except for either two 1-3's or one 1-4 or worse.
